Editorial review from Citysearch 6/15/2012

Outside/inside blg. was beautiful decorated, appeared clean, etc. ~ Meds weren't given on time, sometime not given at all, food trays not delivered 2 meals in one day, night staff never around, no one answers 'buzzer' in patient's room at fron desk during the night hours, trash, soiled linens, etc. was in my room for 4 days before we had to get 'ugly' to the 'front desk' ~ The charge nurses', med clerk (male) were all horrible. I personally feared for my well being and I was mobile and to my 'senses' ~ I worried about the bed ridden patients did not have a voice! I can NOT recommend this Summit at Lakeway for a dog catcher, much less for my week of rehab out of the hospital after knee surgery ~ God forbid if any human gets 'stuck' at this horrible place~ ~ ~ more

My Mom is receiving GREAT services 12/6/2010

Although my Mom has only been at this facility for 2 weeks, she has received the BEST of care before even entering The Summit at Lakeway. They helped with her transfer from the South Austin St David's Hospital. She was greeted with a plant and flower arrangement, but more than that, by many open arms. I have met the therapists that are working with my Mom and they have even taken personal time to visit with me (over their cell phone off hours) regarding my Mom. They have a true interest in her and wanting to help her get better. We participated in an initial Care Plan Meeting to set goals and review needs for my Mom. I have communicated several times with the dietician via email - with the promptness of replies each time with such personal care. The social worker has kindly and compassionately guided my husband and I through the scary process we are encountering. The facility is BEAUTIFUL (so clean) and the daily activities director offers such a personal touch with each resident, which has been so beneficial in making my Mom feel comfortable and welcomed. But the most comforting of experiences this center has showed me is their nursing care and constant communications. Today, my Mom was nauseated and quite ill (for no known reason). I was called this AM by my Mom's AM nurse to let me know of her condition and the general treatments she was receiving. She let me know my Mom was comfortable and being cared for. This evening I received a call from my Mom's night nurse providing me with a follow-up medical report. He reviewed her lab results and discussed the doctors visit and recommendations. He assured me that my Mom was resting well and he would be checking in on her all night. So far, my experience with The Summit at Lakeway has been ONLY the GREATEST of experiences with competent, dedicated and caring professionals caring for my Mom. I will write a final review when my Mom's released OR if I experience a change in my opinion, but for now, I have only the highest of remarks about The Summit at Lakeway. more

Disorganized but friendly 10/3/2009

My father was at the Summit for three years. We would have moved him, if he had not passed away. Several times he had medical emergencies and was transported to the hospital, and the staff never notified me. Attention to meds was problematic. Equally frustrating was when I spoke to the manager, Rose Vera, she blamed everyone on her staff, but never took any responsbility. I would think very, very carefully before entrusting a member of my family to either the assisted living or Alzheimer's care. Pros: Friendly staff Cons: Complete disorganization more

Friendly staff, but be very careful if you truely need medical care! 7/23/2008

We just experienced the Skilled Nursing unit at the Summit. Our elderly mother had a seroius spinal surgery and The Summit was recommended as a location for care and rehabilitation post hospital discharge.\r \r The facilities are beautiful. The Licensed Vocational Nurses who attend were all very friendly. But we were shocked at the level of unorganization and, especially, at how unprepared they were to care for someone who required serious pain management care. \r \r The first night there was a major mistake when they started administering meds not at all in accordance with the surgeon's written instructions (of which they had a copy at the nurse's station). One of us discovered the error a day later. After that it was downhill. \r \r Admittied on a Thursday, she wasn't seen to by a physician until Monday. They would forget to take her vitals, get confused on which meds she was supposed to be on when, and forget to provide food when some meds specifically required that or nausea would occur. I can't count the number of times we had to remind them to do something that should have been done hours earlier.\r \r One of us ended up staying overnight there 2 nights before we decided that we would have to make other arrangements. For whatever reason, it took 8 hours from the time the nurse ok'd her release until the time they were ""ready to let her go home"". They packed up the meds they had on-site for her and handed them to us. Upon which, once again, we reviewed and found 3 missing.\r \r Additional family support flew in and we are now providing home care. Now that everything is being administered in the appropriate dosage and on schedule, she is recovering well.\r \r Again, we believe the staff tried their best and they were very sweet, and this facility is probably good for those with dimentia or other ailments who require little true ""skilled nursing"". But if you are recovering from a serious, painful surgery and are considering this place - good luck. Pros: Beautiful facility, friendly people Cons: not organized and prepared for needs they should be prepared for more
