Excellent Food & Service 3/17/2012

I had the best time at this restaurant! I've been to many other Indian restaurants and this is the only one where I had a great experience eating as well as interacting with the staff that worked there. It is now under new management from what they told me and are doing really well right now. The food is excellent: tasty, flavorful, fresh and you can ask for it to be mild to spicy. The only downside is that they close at 9:30pm everyday!! more

Good Lunch Buffet 8/12/2010

stopped in for lunch today with a co worker. I have only been to a couple Indian restaurants so far, so i might not be the best person to review the food, BUT!! that being said, i really enjoyed the lunch buffet, really good food, everything was fresh, unlike some buffets where you can tell the food has been sitting there a while, maybe we just got there at a good time more

Great Indian Food 8/12/2010

I always come here for the lunch buffet. seriously, $9.99 for the best variety, super fresh food. I pretty much stuff myself everytime. My girlfriend is a vegetarian, and she loves eating here with me, highly recommended. more

Best Indian Food I've Ever Had! 11/14/2009

I've been going to Sultan for a couple of years now and I can't say enough good things. I've had plenty of genuine Indian cuisine in America as well as in India, and this food is as close as you can get. Delicious! Pros: Service, Food, Owner Cons: None- everything is fantastic more

Frequent Flyer 1/30/2009

I am a Frequent Flyer at the Sultan and have never been disappointed. I usually partake of the Lunch Buffet. It has some great standards like the Chicken Tikka Masala, Tandoori Chicken, and fragrant Basmati Rice. Most of the items rotate and sometimes new items are tried. But there is always a good mix of dishes varying in color, spices, hotness and texture. Also included are some interesting appetizers, Pani Poori, desserts, ice cream, Naan, and most always a goat or lamb entree as well. There are lots of items to choose from if you are a vegetarian or gluten-free. And the Masala Chai...out of this world! more

Great Food, Informative Staff 1/17/2009

My husband and I have been going to this restaurant for years, and I must say that the current owners/staff are extremely courteous and willing to help you select the perfect dish for your meal. Still, I almost always get the Chicken Tikka Masala with a side of poori and extra tamarind sauce because it is so good (it was primary craving for about 7 months during my second pregnancy). However, I have branched out a few times at our host's/waiter's suggestion without being disappointed. We also have friends and family that enjoy this place. We're friends with a couple of Australian expatriates, and they get take-out from the Sultan because they love the food (and they know Indian food - they have had their far share from around the world, including India). And when my sister and brother-in-law are in town (they're from central PA), they frequently suggest going to the Sultan because they haven't been able to find Indian food as good as the Sultan's in their area. The servings are substantial, and so I suggest taking the leftovers home for a fantastic midnight snack or for lunch the next day. Pros: Great food, great service, great for take-out more

Best Chicken Tikka Masala on the PLANET! 1/16/2009

These people spoiled us. My wife and I used to eat at the Palace of Asia in Fort Washington, and got hooked on their Chicken Tikka Masala. They sold their business there and the food and service quality dropped pretty dramatically afterwards. Pros: Never tasted better Cons: there is some noisy machinery in the shop next door that can be heard in one seating area more

THE BEST...........INDIAN FOOD IN COUNTRY 9/2/2008

Excellent, I can't say anymore, very fresh food, wonderful flavors via what I can only call perfect seasoning and preparation. The presentation was excellent and the decedent deserts topped off a wonderful meal. I must also mention that the outstanding service and knowledge of the waiter only added to an already wonderful evening Pros: FOOD, SERVICE more

its probably one of the best in the area 8/27/2008

This little gem is tucked inside of an unassuming strip mall on Welsh Rd. Each dish from the chicken makhni to the rogan josh has been tenderly prepared to seduce your palettes! I came here once for dinner and another time for their lunch buffet. I was very surprised to see their large selection of dishes in their buffet (I wasn't expecting this in the suburbs). You MUST try their homemade kulfi! Pros: FOOD, SERVICE Cons: STRIP MALL more

Health hazard! Stay away - from our own experience. 8/25/2008

Hi...This week we went to Sultan,,,Actually it was my choice my friend didnt wanted to go there since we already had 3 worst experince with sultan food. But badly craving for Indian food we went to sultan...it was buffet ,,,the Naan most probably is of my auntys age...The sambar of my grandfathers age,,,If you are an Indian please dont go to Sultan expecting good food,,its a criminal waste of money...And I even saw that they had the review saying best restaurant from city search..the very moment I decided I will write this,,,All the good reviews should be of Sultan owner..The food is stale..and all the veg and nonveg food had the same gravy,,,everything looked and taste alike....the only good one was the paneer masala..which was running out since nobody touched anyother dishes...None of the food were fresh ,,,u will run if you had the pudding or halwa...The sambar was stale...gone!!!! since sambar wont last for more than 2days... more

Great vegetarian dishes, prompt customer service. 7/26/2008

I can't speak for their meat dishes, but their vegetarian dishes are fantastic. The lentils are excellent, as is the saag paneer and the paneer masala. Their eggplant is also incredible. Yum! Pros: Good vegetarian dishes, affordable, prompt service Cons: Not in love with their pakora more

BEST INDIAN CUISINE IN PHILLY AREA 7/2/2008

The last review was a bit extreme. I have had Indian food all over-including India---and Indian food is usually expensive. (EVERYTHING IS EXPENSIVE NOWADAYS) I thought the food was very good and the service very friendly. I usually get it to go. Moving outside the city there is a dearth of good restaurants here--and the lack of heat/spice at most ethnic restaurants is pitiful. This place is good and will spice it the way you like. Pros: FOOD, FOOD, FOOD AND OF COURSE SERVICE more

Horrible Customer service 6/8/2008

I had order a few takeaway items. On reaching there, looking at the bill I asked the waiter to confirm it since last week (exactly 7 days earlier) I had paid 25% less for the same things. Waiter went upto the manager (Horrible owner of the Palace of Asia restaurant from Fort Washington) and talked. This guy came up to me and started shouting how dare I ask him the price and difference between last time and this time. Costs went up and all. I said I asked him to find out why the cost is different which you could have come and explained to me not shout at me. He had no reaction and just turned and walked off. Not even a SORRY. Not getting any of mine or my friends business again. This is the most horrible restaurant manager I must have ever talked to. The customer service is downright poor even if the food is better than the last owner. Dining is about the experience & with a manager like this I am never setting foot in there again. Cons: Worse manager ever more

Best Indian Food in PA 5/26/2008

This restaurant is by far the best Indian food me and my husband have found in all of PA. The service is great and the food keeps us coming back. We drive over an hour to get to this restaurant and it is well worth the drive. Pros: Parking, BYOB, Friendly Staff, Great food more

OUTSTANDING 2/1/2008

I have always enjoyed Indian cuisine. I have been to the restaurant many times. However, I have not been to the restaurant in over a year because I felt the quality of food and service was lacking. When I heard the restaurant was under new ownership/management I thought I would give the restaurant another try. I am happy I did. The service was great and the food was outstanding. The atmosphere was great. My friends and I enjoyed ourselves. I encourage those of you who were disappointed in the past to give them another try. Pros: FOOD AND SERVICE more

BEST INDIAN FOOD IN THE TOWN 2/1/2008

Go to Sultan for fabulous Indian Cuisine! The staff is always courteous and when ask their recommendations have never been wrong. They will let you sit and enjoy a leisure meal and a bottle of wine without making you feel uncomfortable. My friend and I usually spend couple of hours eating & visiting. Also, don't leave without trying the indian cofee( homemade)...it is wonderful! Pros: FOOD SERVICE Cons: STRIP MALL more

Avoid this place if you want to eat Indian food 1/23/2008

Stated home made soup and curry lamb, but was served Campbell's vegetable and alphabet soup from a can. The lamb was not lamb but was frozen beef stew with curry. This place should be shut down because of the misrepresentation of foods offered on the menu. The tap water and garlic nam was very good . Do not go to this place unless you like frozen stew and canned soup. Pros: tap water and garlic nam Cons: canned soup and frozen beef more

Dark Meat Chicken! 1/19/2008

We used to go to this restaurant under the previous management and never had anything as poor quality as the meat in the food we had last night. The chicken briyani was very good except for the meat. The chicken was not even palatable. My husband is pretty willing to eat most things and not complain but even he couldn't stand the fatty, poor quality of the chicken used in his or my dinners. As someone previously said, the staff are friendly but excruciatingly slow. The restaurant was not even half full last night and it still took at least 30 minutes for us to have our order taken. Pros: Briyani was very good once the chicken was all picked out Cons: They use dark meat chicken in their dishes more

Sultan's is By Far the Best Indian Food in Montgomery County PA!! 11/28/2007

My husband and I used to go to sultan's while they were under the previous ownership but only sporadically as the food could be good or only so-so depending on the day. However, now under the new ownership that's not the case at all. Pros: Amazing Food, Good Prices, Comfortable Atmosphere, Conveniently Located off Rt 309. Cons: No cons. This place is great! more

Wonderful experience. 10/24/2007

This was the first time to an Indian restaurant for my girlfriend and I. We both loved everything. For the appetizer we had the fried sampler, delicious. For the entree we had a chicken dish with a sauce made from coconut and a bunch of other ingredients, very tasty. We had a side of great bread and a wonderful desert of Indain ice cream. Service was great. We met both of the owners, new since July, and they were very nice and helpful. It is a BYOB, which we love also. In terms of price it was a very reasonable meal. I highly recommend this place, we will be back! Pros: Great food and service. Cons: None that I can think of. more
