I called Studio Gaven to book an appointment for a color and cut. The receptionist asked about my hair to match me up with the right stylist (someone well versed with all things BLONDE!!). I was booked with Jason. He is amazing! He talked to me about what I wanted and really studied my hair trying to figure out what would look best. I LOVE my hair!! It was just what I wanted and more. Jason was great at styling as well, making sure I left the salon with each hair in place! Since then, I am constantly getting compliments on my hair! I am definitely going back to him! Pros: great stylists, convenient hours Cons: A little $$--But you get what you pay for!! more

I found Studio Gaven on Citysearch. I made the appt over the phone & explained to the gentleman that I was a first-time customer, wanted to go red & had very thick, wavy hair. He told me ___ would be perfect. I walked in & there were 2 women & 1 man upfront - not one of them greeted me or spoke until I gave my name & time of appt. I was led back to a changing area to put on a smock & told to sit & wait for my stylist. I was relieved when she approached - on their website her hair is a natural brunette, but here she was a fun, bright blond. I explained that my only sister was getting married in a week & I wanted a light, bright red since that's the color my husband prefers on me. I told her I wanted it kinda "funky" since I was 10 years my sister's senior & didn't want to be the "old maid" at the wedding. I mentioned that I liked another stylist's haircolor - darker w/chunky "blocks" of light through it & she nodded so I thought she understood. I also pointed out another customer whose hair I did NOT like - mentioning that when I go into the browns people tend to ask me if I'm tired - repeating that I wanted red for the wedding. I should've known there was a problem b/c she kept asking another stylist for advice/help on the color. I ended up w/a brownish color w/very subtle red throughout. I told her I wasn't happy with it & wanted red highlights through it to make it more fun but she wouldn't listen - stating that when I got in the sun it would be redder. I said it wasn't what I wanted , but that it would have to do. On the phone, the man asked if I usually got foils/highlights & I said that I wanted the stylist's opinion on that - he said he'd block out enough time for me to get foils if needed. Instead, there was another client waiting to have her foils removed in the chair beside me. I felt rushed out of there. I left dissatisfied & gave only a 10% tip - the cut was fine, NOT my color. For $150, they should've LISTENED. This was my only sister's wedding Pros: parking Cons: not friendly; didn't listen to what I wanted more

I have been going to studio gaven for about 3 years now! I see Mr. Lee French. he is the best!! best color, best style, best blow-out, best laugh!! he's amazing! in fact before i went to Lee, i was flying home to Florida to get my hair done, bc i couldnt find anyone here in Nashville!! But now I have my Lee and everything is great. I go in, tell him to do his thing, and he does it perfect every single time. When I am in his chair I am the only one in the salon. He is like that will all of his clients, his clients always turn into friends bc he is that great!! Once you go Lee, you never go back! I have been to Studio Gaven twice now to see Terri Newville. I have to say that she is the best colorist and stylist I've had in a very long time. I was referred to this salon by someone that I met briefly and booked my appointment with Terri based upon my phone conversation with the receptionist. Terri highlighted and cut my hair for the first time just before Christmas 2006. I LOVED the cut and the color. I traveled all over to see my entire family and all of my in-laws over Christmas and they all loved my new look too. Even my mother loved it and she is always the first person to criticize my hair! Terri did my hair for the second time last week and I had another fantastic experience. I love this salon and Terri and will not be going anywhere else as long as I live in Nashville! Thanks for a wonderful salon- it's so refreshing to find someone that you can trust with your hair! So, less than 6 months ago my hair was colored jet black. I thought it was be fun, not realizing the repurcussions of it. In the last few months I'd been to several local salons, my hair had been stripped twice, toned 3 times and highlighted twice. Even after all of this, my hair remained very dark reddish brown. (my natural color is light ash brown) Bad experience after bad experience left me broke and confused since each stylist had assured me of a color that never happened. THEN CAME TRACI at Studio Gavin! I made a spur of the moment appointment over the phone and they gladly set me up with Traci. I told her if I could walk out the door blonde, I would. I was SOOOO over my dark hair. I don't know what she did different than the other stylist I went to, but I left Studio Gavin absolutely glowing with happiness! I actually DID get to walk out of the salon as a blonde! My hair is healthy and the color is by far the best I've ever had! There are no words to describe how much I love my result. I know I was a major challenge...but Traci definitely delivered! Everyone was ridiculously nice and even in a huge salon, I felt at home. LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!! Pros: Friendly Staff, Talented Stylists, Great Atmosphere Cons: none! more

I had passed Gaven Studio a few times while doing my Christmas shopping this year and finally took the plunge to book an appointment. I had been going to the same stylist for a while and we were in a rut. I needed something "different" or "dramatic". I booked my appointment with Terri, and I cannot be happier with my results. Everyone has been complimenting me on my color. I've already passed her name out to 2 people at my work and encouraged them to go for themselves. I have to admit, I will be a frequent customer and I encourage anyone else who is interested to give them a shot. You will not regret it! New to Nashville, which means I had to find a new hairdresser. Went entering into the salon the front desk not all that friendly or very welcoming. I was offered nothing to drink, no where to change (I had to go to work all day and itch). I saw Johnna and she told me right off the she more less felt like she had no sleep. Apparently she is in the count down for Top Hair Show (another words to be on the show itself). I explained to her what I wanted and in the middle of trying to speak I was consonantly intruppurted (as she had her mind on the show and not on my hair) Okay Sorry for the money I paid I should have the attention on me. So with that being said my hair (I even showed her a picture of how I wanted it) is to short and looks exactly the same as it always does. I don't know if I will return or not. As I used to be a hairdresser I KNOW THAT LISTEINING TO WHAT THE CLIENT WANTS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT. During the cut she had said to me "There are so many clients that want what they can't have". Well my request was not out of the ordinary. She had no focus on my hair only on herself and her show she is not even on yet. She would stop cutting during the cut to tell someone all about something that hasn't happened, which happened more than once. I came to Studio Gaven looking for a new hair stylist, they gave me to Terri. She seemed to know exactly what I wanted before I even told her. She did a GREAT cut and color, I am so happy with my hair now and I've received so many compliments on my hair. Pros: Very relaxed salon with great hair stylist more

During my last visit to the salon, and I have been meaning to do this for awhile now. I had the chance to sit in their color area during my process time. I think its usually 30 minutes or so. Along with a great worldly magazine collection as well, I was able to sit close to Gaven as he was doing one of his clients. She was bragging to his assistant the she had seen him for like 13 years now. I didn't realize he saw clients anymore. But, to my surprise, the other 2 ladies at the table processing were his also. It was nice to see them ask each other to see who he had done the longest. Anyway, as he was coloring, he was telling his assistant everything he was doing, why, and how the results would look. Then he proceded to ask her back everything he told her, extremely detailded too. I was amazed at all the chemistry she knew, and obviously what he had taught her. I know my my stylist assited him at one time, now I know why she is the BEST!!! Once I got back to her chair I asked her about it. She explained that Gaven says, one never knows enough, and color changes every year like cell phones. So he has a required education policy for all his stylists. She, Leslie, who is awesome, also said he is a certified hair colorist. I am not sure what that means, but it works for him. I never knew hair dresser meant chemist. I budget for my hair, and now I feel I get what the big bucks get me!! A GREAT look. Pros: Great parking, and I like I can get my next appointments pre booked months in advance ahead. more

I love this salon! I saw Jason for a cut and color with hi-lights and I seriously get compliments on my hair every day! It has never looked better and the best thing is he is super sweet and really takes the time to give you a cut that works best for your face. This is my salon from now on! more

I have been trying to find a new stylist since I moved here and I have finally found her. Katie at Studio Gaven!! Our visit consisted of a brief consultation before she cut my hair. She listened to what I wanted and we decided on long layers and some layers around my face. Needless to say, this is the best hair cut I have had. I recently switched to Studio Gaven after a horrid experience at Dions South. I went to Dusty and he does a phenomenal job! My hair always looks fantastic and is so silky! I get so many compliments on the cut and color! I see Rheonna for my nails. She's amazing! I am constantly asked where I get my nails done. I can understand why shes won so many awards for her work! She also gives great pedicures! Pros: Professional Stylists, Skill-Rheonna and Dusty, Great Results Cons: none! more

Jason Kennedy is awesome! He has been cutting and coloring my hair for two years now.I will not go to anyone else. He knows how to make my hair look and feel great. I'm an older woman and he can give me a cut that makes me look younger......I LIKE THAT!!! I travel 140 miles one way to have Jason do my hair and I will continue to do so. That's just how good he is. He is also very professional and has a great personality. He is really a nice and sincere guy. Jason I will see you soon. I had a great experience at Studio Gaven. My stylist was Eric, and he gave me an excellent cut, color and style. I appreciated the fact that he took the time to really listen to what I wanted. I've had MANY bad experiences in Nashville -- too many to count! -- so it was refreshing to go to someone who actually knew what they were doing. Studio Gaven was the best experience I have ever had at a salon. The staff was very friendly and attended to my every need. The front dest was very professional. My stylist Katie, was very knowledgeable and made me feel comfortable sitting in her chair. My cut and color turned out fabulous! I will definitely be going back to Katie at Studio Gaven!!! more

I had 2 horrifying experiences at another salon. I was given maroon and pinkish blond highlights. My hair was dead. I spent the night crying and called my friend that goes to Studio Gaven and sees Shane. I immediately called and got in with Shane in a few days. He was very comforting and knowledgeable. After a few visits, I am now a brown with highlights, and my hair is in a lot better condition than it was before! I also spoke with Gaven for a little while on my first appt and he was so nice and professional. He's a super guy. Pros: eclectic atmosphere yet still friendly. professional staff more

I went to Studio Gaven, and had to come back to get my hair color done again. My roots were still showing after my first visit. I thought there were a lot of great stylists there, but not the new stylist I got. I was very disappointed, had to go back again to have it fixed. I had never left a salon with my hair looking worse than when I came in. I also thought it was over priced, and I have been to some nice salons before. My stylist was also boasting about everything he has done in other places...blah blah blah.....maybe instead of listening to what I wanted with my hair? more

I visited Studio Gaven for the first time this weekend. It was a good experience overall, as my hair turned out great! I had Eric as my stylist and he gave me the best highlight I've ever had and a great style after my cut. I was surprised with the price, as this is the first top class salon I've been to, but overall I think it was worth it. Overall, my cut, highlight, toner, and style was $128. I've been told that's not a bad cost, but I'm not used to spending that much money. But I will say that I will be back. This new location rocks! I can't believe how friendly and knowledgable this staff is. They also now offer facials, massage, and nails to their already awesome place. This isn't your typical run of the mill salon in Nashville. You walk in and you feel like you have just entered L.A. or somewhere hip like that but with the same great southern fell with all the nice staff. I would highly recommend this place!
