Stay Clear! Pirates arrrrgh 6/3/2009

must warn you to stay clear. After a Saturday visit with 6 friends for beers and appetizers we paid our bill of $170.00 by splitting on cards. On Sunday we found out they had over charged our cards to an amount of over $1,400.00!!! We all called Strange Brew expecting a quick fix but they have been totally rude and unhelpful. The charges remain 4 days later! Available funds removed from bank accounts causing headaches for all. The worst is not even an apology has been issued! Just rudeness, refusal to return calls, and no action on the mistake. Stay clear! Worst customer service I have ever experienced. Pros: Its local Cons: Can not be trusted, will steal from you more

GREAT SERVICE 10/24/2008

We always go to Strange Brew during Monarchs Hockey season before and after games. It amazes me at the efficiency of the waitresses. There are people elbow to elbow enjoying the music or the game on one of the many TVs, but yet they seem to remember everyones order (we are usually in a group of 8 or 10) without ever writing anything down, and never shall a glass run empty. Since the smoking ban I don't have a complaint in the world to give about this place. Great beers (and weekly $2 draft specials - even Guinness), great appetizers and freshly popped popcorn. What more could you ask for? more

HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE 3/7/2008

Worst bar ever. The only reason Strange Brew has gotten a review such good reviews on here is because it was one of the first 20-something night spots in the Manchester area. Luckily, the area has turned around. This bar's only appeal is that most of the people who go there went to high school together. The service is terrible. Its over crowded. Chili's restaurant has a better beer selection, despite all the rave. If you have any sense of class or taste, you'll avoid this place like the plague! Or, go here and GET the plague from two-toothed patrons and disgusting bathrooms. Pros: You can probably score some coke in the bathroom, if you're into that sort of thing. Cons: The cop stationed at the front door will probably confiscate your coke for his own personal use. more

A nice surprise on New Year's Eve 1/17/2007

My husband and I, originally being from Boston, usually head that way for big nights out, but this year decided to find somewhere closer to home. We had a place in mind, but at the last minute had to switch up, so I found Strange Brew online and headed there. It was a little harder to find that we thought, since Market St. didn't connect to Elm like we expected, but we got parking just feet away and didn't have to wait in any lines (which is nice after living in Boston!) We paid $10 each to get in (covered the buffet, which was pretty decent for the price) and then after ordering our Bass and Smithwicks drafts, were SO pleasantly surprised to find that they honored their weekly specials - $2 draft beers! There weren't any seats available at first, but the waitress was really nice and said she'd bring our drinks to us, and was really on top of making sure we wanted another drink every time we got close to finishing one, all night long. There was a band playing most of the night that did cover music (mostly older rock stuff, which I loved!) We managed to grab a piece of bar near the door and eventually grabbed two stools that emptied up. And that's where we comfortably remained the rest of the night. They passed around champagne (more than one waitress making sure we had some) and stopped the music to let everyone see the ball dropping at midnight on their TVs. And an $18 beer tab was icing on the cake. I loved it so much that I just took 2 friends there last Saturday and I think the bouncer remembered me and let me right without carding me. Either that, or he insulted me by assuming I was well above age! :) Pros: prices, waitstaff, beer selection Cons: music was a TAD too loud at times, and those steps to the bathroom are a little scary after drinking so much! more
