Review content:
My husband and I, originally being from Boston, usually head that way for big nights out, but this year decided to find somewhere closer to home. We had a place in mind, but at the last minute had to switch up, so I found Strange Brew online and headed there. It was a little harder to find that we thought, since Market St. didn't connect to Elm like we expected, but we got parking just feet away and didn't have to wait in any lines (which is nice after living in Boston!) We paid $10 each to get in (covered the buffet, which was pretty decent for the price) and then after ordering our Bass and Smithwicks drafts, were SO pleasantly surprised to find that they honored their weekly specials - $2 draft beers! There weren't any seats available at first, but the waitress was really nice and said she'd bring our drinks to us, and was really on top of making sure we wanted another drink every time we got close to finishing one, all night long. There was a band playing most of the night that did cover music (mostly older rock stuff, which I loved!) We managed to grab a piece of bar near the door and eventually grabbed two stools that emptied up. And that's where we comfortably remained the rest of the night. They passed around champagne (more than one waitress making sure we had some) and stopped the music to let everyone see the ball dropping at midnight on their TVs. And an $18 beer tab was icing on the cake. I loved it so much that I just took 2 friends there last Saturday and I think the bouncer remembered me and let me right without carding me. Either that, or he insulted me by assuming I was well above age! :)
Pros: prices, waitstaff, beer selection
Cons: music was a TAD too loud at times, and those steps to the bathroom are a little scary after drinking so much!
