Great Experience 12/28/2011

After an incredibly frustrating experience with two national moving companies ( Patriot Van Lines and MBM Moving Systems a hex on you!), it was refreshing to have this local company quickly provide two on-time, ready-to-work, friendly men to unload my UHaul today. They took special care with my items and made a valiant try to fit a box spring up the attic stairs. I've moved 13 times in the last 15 years so I have had interactions with many, many moving companies. I definitely recommend Starving Artists. more

Literally Disgusted 9/28/2011

actually disgusted by this company. treated me worse than any company i've ever work with! bashes on customers every chance they get (please reference ljworld where they publically bash a customer...WHAT GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! SIGN ME UP!!!!) and has hidden fees like CRAZY, for example $90 ""travel expense"" anywhere you live... INCLUDING LAWRENCE?!!?!!? After my absolutely awful experience, I thought I was the only one. Some of my friends told me they used them too and they were intentionally slow so they could milk the clock (for example, took every couch cushion, one at a time.. are you kidding me????) and bumped couches, tables, etc. into the walls... yeah really experienced!!! One of my friends said he called after the payment went through to ask a question, and of course after the payment went through they were so rude to him, didn't call him back for months and my friend is furious!! I have some serious problems with this company. We live in LAWRENCE, not New York, you can't treat good Lawrence citizens this way!! There are plenty of other movers in town that I have heard great things about and if this company didn't scar me on ever using a moving company again, I would use some of these others ones I've heard great things about!! And honestly, its moving furniture, not rocket science. But the thing that really got me was the lack of customer service. I won't be surprised at all when some jerk representative replies to this post and completely bashes on me like they do everyone else!! This company is disgusting and please people, if you read this I AM TRYING TO SAVE YOU!!! DON""T USE THIS AWFUL AND JUST PLAIN RUDE COMPANY!!!!! more

Alleged... 3/24/2011

Here's how my move went. I'll let you rate it: Showed up on time, Monday morning with 2 trucks and 4 guys ready to move. I had quite a few things packed up in the garage ready for them to get going. They recommend that you always have someone available for questions or to supervise. I left my Mom behind while I went to close on my new home about a half hour after they arrived. A couple of hours later I came back to find that they had finished one truck and were working on the second truck. I asked my Mom how things had gone and she seemed to be OK with their progress and diligence. The movers had packed up the second truck which apparently had a quarter of it already full with someone else's things. Unfortunately for us we had plenty of things left which meant we would have to come back for the rest later. Upon arrival in our new house in Lawrence my Mom decided she was going to get us some lunch and discovered that $800 in cash had mysteriously disappeared from an envelope, within her wallet, which was in her purse. We immediately tried to make reason as to where the cash could have gone. The envelope within her wallet remained but the cash was gone. After 2 hours of searching, I decided to approach the owner of Starving Artists. They immediately pulled the team off the job and recommended that I call the police because their employees claimed no responsibility. I called both the Eudora police and the Lawrence Police and neither offered any assistance as this was a cash matter and would easily just be chalked up to ""gone."" At this point all I wanted done was to have my things moved and to finish up. After the 2 hour delay of my things not being moved the owner showed up with another employee to finish the job. We finished somewhere around the 11:00 PM mark and nothing had been put back together. Although, items were placed in their respective rooms. The job took approximately 7 hours longer than quoted and incomplete as far as assembly of my furniture goes. I signed the waiver however and assembled the things myself. After which I asked said owner how we planned to resolve the issue about the cash which he began to explain how he can assume no responsibility as well due to the incident being cash. It turns into ""he said, she said"" and I ended up giving my mom back her money which she needed for her monthly expenses. So not only am I out the total of the move but an additional $800 so my Mom can eat this month. I will not for legal reasons say that the employees at Starving Artists Moving took her cash. However, someone lifted $800 in cash while the movers were left alone with my Mom and it wasn't me. more
