Here's how my move went. I'll let you rate it: Showed up on time, Monday morning with 2 trucks and 4 guys ready to move. I had quite a few things packed up in the garage ready for them to get going. They recommend that you always have someone available for questions or to supervise. I left my Mom behind while I went to close on my new home about a half hour after they arrived. A couple of hours later I came back to find that they had finished one truck and were working on the second truck. I asked my Mom how things had gone and she seemed to be OK with their progress and diligence. The movers had packed up the second truck which apparently had a quarter of it already full with someone else's things. Unfortunately for us we had plenty of things left which meant we would have to come back for the rest later. Upon arrival in our new house in Lawrence my Mom decided she was going to get us some lunch and discovered that $800 in cash had mysteriously disappeared from an envelope, within her wallet, which was in her purse. We immediately tried to make reason as to where the cash could have gone. The envelope within her wallet remained but the cash was gone. After 2 hours of searching, I decided to approach the owner of Starving Artists. They immediately pulled the team off the job and recommended that I call the police because their employees claimed no responsibility. I called both the Eudora police and the Lawrence Police and neither offered any assistance as this was a cash matter and would easily just be chalked up to ""gone."" At this point all I wanted done was to have my things moved and to finish up. After the 2 hour delay of my things not being moved the owner showed up with another employee to finish the job. We finished somewhere around the 11:00 PM mark and nothing had been put back together. Although, items were placed in their respective rooms. The job took approximately 7 hours longer than quoted and incomplete as far as assembly of my furniture goes. I signed the waiver however and assembled the things myself. After which I asked said owner how we planned to resolve the issue about the cash which he began to explain how he can assume no responsibility as well due to the incident being cash. It turns into ""he said, she said"" and I ended up giving my mom back her money which she needed for her monthly expenses. So not only am I out the total of the move but an additional $800 so my Mom can eat this month. I will not for legal reasons say that the employees at Starving Artists Moving took her cash. However, someone lifted $800 in cash while the movers were left alone with my Mom and it wasn't me. more
