Editorial review from Citysearch 7/12/2013

I went to Fuji's for the first time, today. They were busy, still was greeted in a prompt manner. Had to wait about 10 minutes to get a seating, did I care? Absolutely not since they remembered the line order and took into the customers concerns. As I sat down and after my friend changed into her dress I got her earlier and we both were sitting, was immediately asked by the head sushi chef I guess if we wanted him to make anything in particular which is rare for the chefs to ask if we want anything since usually we've had to flag them down and ask ourselves but no he came to us. After awhile of waiting at the conveyor belt and noticing my favorite sushi Ebi (Steamed Shrimp) wasn't on the rotating course, before I could ask him he noticed and said so is there something you'd like and BAM he whips up 4 Ebi's super fast gives me two, puts two on the belt which I immediately grab and later on he just says good thing I made 4 I was guessing you were gonna take one, and made another two just in case which another customer wanted to try but obviously I took the second. NOW THE CALAMARI, I HATEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE CALAMARI. But I have found a place that is an exception, its 5 dollars for the square plate but you definitely get a generous serving of it so it might be even better than ordering a calamari appetizer at a restaurant because the two of us ate it and there was still plenty. All in all, I just give it a 10 it was so awesome and the head chef was just so incredibly relaxed and courteous to us, there might have been a picture menu with corresponding dishes and I was just oblivious but if not maybe just do that you guys are set. I had absolutely 0 complaints about Fuji's.\r Service: 10\r Food: 10\r Environment: 10\r *Chef was a bro\r and I work in retail so I know too well of when its busy its hard to get to customers and help them out and seat them (or in my case get them a fitting room) but the Itamae's were still on top of it all. Apparently it was even busier earlier that they had to send people home? So I'm glad I had the experience its gonna be my go to sushi restaurant until I may move back to Hawaii. more

Great Anniversary Dinner- will be back again 8/14/2010

My husband and I went here for my first time, his second, for our anniversary. We got there early, about 5:30, and it was pretty empty. We got the tempenyaki (no idea how to spell it). They subbed tofu for meat with no problems at all (vegetarian). The food was excellent, our cook put on a good show, reasonable prices. I guess my only complaint is that the miso soup has crab in it. I have never been anywhere where there was some sort of meat or fish in the miso. Kind of a bummer as I love miso soup but could not eat it because of the crab. Everything else was wonderful. Looking forward to going back again! more

Really one of the best places for sushi 2/26/2010

I've been eating at Fuji's for a long time. Their food is always TOP quality, great sashimi, rolls, and family flat grill shows. Try the tenderloin, it's awesome. But I go there for the sushi. Wonderful sauces, interesting sushi rolls. Never been let down. Also, and this is important to any restaurant, the wait staff is always right on target. Helpful, but not bothersome. Try the crunchy tuna roll, or the sunnyside roll. The only thing that bugs me sometimes is that they close between 3pm and 5pm M-Th and don't open until 2pm on Saturdays. They miss the entire lunch crowd from 11am till 2pm. And don't tell me it's to early to eat sushi, I could eat sushi for breakfast. They have a long conveyor belt with seating for about 20 people plus 4 or 5 booths next to the conveyor belt. Best fast food anywhere :) Plus 5 flat grills that seat about 12 people ea. One other thing missing is the banter from the sushi chefs. They will talk to you but they are usually pretty busy working. Okay I guess.... keep up the great work :) Pros: excellent sushi and flat grill foods Cons: odd hours more

Birthday Dinner 2/24/2010

We went for my 27th birthday. Had great fun, and the food was really good! First time going there, but won't be my last. more

The Best Shushi place I have ever beem to. 10/3/2009

Fujis is a great sushi place I have ever been to. The only thing is, is its so crowded. Thats about the only con I have to say about this place. The sushi there was very delicious. I don't know what people are talking about when they say it was horrible or, something was raw, usually sushi is raw. Besides that I really love it and i'm a kid. You don't get a kid to like sushi that often. Well The sushi was fantastic, and it always makes me feel like i'm not too full and i'm not to hungry, when I leave. I feel just right. I give fuji's a thumbs up!! Check out there dish the yum yummy its very good!!! Pros: Best sushi, and good service Cons: I dont have any. more

Poor customer service 3/26/2009

Went to Fuji's for a friend's 50th birthday. Food was okay & service was good, but my friend forgot her birthday gifts in a clear plastic bag under her seat when we left. We were the last group out of the restaurant side that night, so we didn't worry about it too much as we figured she could call them first thing the next day & come by to pick it up. She called the next morning to see if they set the package - which included $50 worth of lottery tickets - aside, but no one claimed to have seen it. She told the manager she was on her way in to speak with them about the situation. When she showed the hostess told her the manager wasn't in (even though she had been on the phone with the manager less than 10 minutes prior). Seems like the manager was avoiding a situation that needed to be dealt with - theft, unhappy customer, but wasn't willing to do anything to make the situation right. We were a group of 8 & NONE of us will ever go back to this establishment. All of us are very unhappy about how this was handled and are telling everyone we know about our experience. There are plenty of quality restaurants to choose from in this area & we are happy to support those that provide better customer service than this.... Pros: Example: best croissants in town Cons: What are the drawbacks? more

We love it, but watch the chicken 3/11/2009

We have been to Fujis several times now. Some for dinner for the hibachi dinners, some for lunch for sushi. The first time we went, after hearing rave reviews from a friend, we had a pretty bad experience. I ordered a side of teriyaki chicken, and after biting into a large chunk of chicken, it was BLOOODY raw!!!! I was horrified! I immediately notified the staff. At first they acted as if they didnt understand the big deal. When they took the chicken back to the chef, they came back to me with the laamest excuse ever... ""Sometimes its hard to tell if its cooked because of the sauce they put on it."" I almost laughed in their face. However, they did refund my purchase, and I did not get sick. We decided to give Fujis another try after this, and have nothing but a fantastic time. But Im always cautious now. Pros: fantastic food Cons: alittle expensive dinners, watch the chicken more

Poor service! 3/3/2009

Ordered takeout last night and realized once I got home that they forgot my miso soup and also messed up my order. When I called to let them know what happened the girl told me she remembered me and said that she gave me exactly what I requested. I said that's not possible since I know the fried rice I ""requested"" has eggs and I'm very allergic to eggs! I took the food back and the same girl still acted like I screwed up. I just wanted her to fix THEIR mistake, which they did. It was frustrating to say the least. The food is good, but the girl should have just apologized and fixed it instead of having an attitude and trying to prove a point. more

home away from home 11/22/2008

I have eaten there dozens of times. My friends eat there as well as my co-workers. Every time I take someone new they become a regular. Great food... very friendly service and they will go out of the way to help if you want something special. Pros: food and service Cons: seating can be limited occasionally more

if you go after 830p you can get $2 well drinks and sushi for 20% off what better value. for 2 people you can eat for less $30. they have the best special sauce and sunnyside roll, staff are great and friendly. Pros: sushi/ value , $2 well drinks after 830p and 20% off Cons: more booths for sushi! with this value people are going to show up more

Great everything! So good! 1/16/2008

We went to Fuji's on a weeknight for our anniversary. The service was great, the food was great, and the prices were competitive. I can't believe how much food we got for our money! We had the hibachi dinners. Really great miso soup and fantastic calamari. The server was attentive and our chef was a very nice man. I would imagine that the parking can be kind of weird, but we didn't have any trouble as it was a Wednesday night. We will definitely be going back for their great happy hour deals - 20% off sushi after 8:30pm to close every night and $5 big beers and sake. Overall, a fantastic experience. Pros: food and service Cons: it's not closer to my house more

BEST RESTAURANT PERIOD!! 6/27/2007

Oh man my first experience at Fuji's was awesome and we go back now at least 1 every two or three weeks whcih is a lot but the service is excellent and the people are so friendly take out is a breeze this is the best sushi/japanese restaurant I have been to and I recommend to everyone I know on a costnat basis. Well done to all the chefs and people that make Fuji's the best reatuarant! Pros: EVERYTHING THIS PLACE IS THE GREATEST LITTLE SECRET RESTAURANT Cons: the only con is the restroom because there is only one for eash gender and no changing thing for when you bring the baby more

Great Food/Service at Fuji's - Happy Hour after 8:30pm EVERY NIGHT! 3/25/2007

I would say the best bar-sushi (conveyor-style) I've been to in Portland. Plus, the other half of the menu where they cook the food for you and perform tricks is great too! Definitely recommend Fuji's Special (sushi rolls) and get a little extra Fuji Sauce too! They are always very friendly, quick with the drinks/refills, and quick with the sushi you order. On only one occasion were the drinks delayed but they were short-staffed and busy that night. Great place to grab food to go, to sit there and eat in 30 minutes or invite a group and watch a chef prepare your yakisoba noodles with beef tenderloin and veggies! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. Remember, 20% off sushi after 8:30pm as well as drink specials! Can't go wrong there, right?! Pros: great service, great food, friendly staff Cons: the parking lot is a little funky and crowded at times more

GREAT FOR DATES AND A QUICK BITE TO EAT!!! 12/28/2006

I have been to Fuji's Restaurant countless times for both dates and just to grab a quick bite to eat. I have always been greeted with a warm welcome and quickly served with drinks. The food has never been anything less then impeccable and my experience there is always a pleasure. I have come to know the employees at Fuji's very well over the years and always leave a generous tip for their hard work. if there was anything above a 10 I could give the Restaurant I would. Its just sad to hear that jerks such as depuydt342000 give Fuji's a bad reputation. Pros: Newly remodeled Cons: not a lot of parking more

Great Chef's! 10/25/2006

We have now been to Fuji's twice and have loved it both times. We've been there with just a party of four, and more recently a group of 13. Both times we were seated promptly, and treated well. The chef's that cook for you are fun, talented and have good patter to go with their cooking skills. The sushi was GREAT... We will be going again, and again and again! Pros: A fun night out Cons: Parking a bit harder on the weekend. more
