unprofessional, poor service 7/11/2013

I've been going here for a couple years because of my insurance, not by choice. The doctors I've seen have been personable and knowledgeable, but the costumer service is horrible. The front desk service is slow and unprofessional. I once walked in and stood at the desk while the two people behind it finished their personal conversation and then finally greeted me. I once chose glasses (no easy task--3 visits!), and only after I had left the office did they look to see if they were actually available. They called a couple days later telling me I needed to pick out a different pair altogether. \r \r more

Horrible customer service!!! I have gone to this place two years in a row and each time they have screwed up my order for contact lenses. It is just hassle each time I have to deal with them. Staff is incompetent and unable to resolve any issues on the spot.... more

I had a fantastic experience here! The place has a wonderful vibe, everyone is amazingly nice and they have a great selection of glasses. I hate going to the doctor and these folks seriously made it a stellar, borderline fun experience. more

I told them I was on a budget, they brought me over to 275$ frames. I said I can't afford that do you have cheaper ones, I was brought over to 175$ frames. Frustrated I went to leave so now they show me 100$ frames... Why the did they bring me to the most expensive frames first? They don't care about you, they only care about your dollar. Also, the optometrist there only cared about convincing you to get lasik. Don't was your time. If you are like me and have to do there for the eye appointment through insurance, just get your prescription and run. Purchase your glasses and contacts online. more

Standard Optical is the worst service ever. They never provide what is promised. They overcharge and are very unprofessinal. Do not waist your time or money they do not care about the customer ever. They are rude, and unwilling to correct a mistake that was their fault. more

Great doctor, I had a problem with my frames and the manager went out of her way to resolve the situation. Was impressed with the amount of time they took to take care of my issues. more

I too got completely snookered by their Groupon promotion. $180 towards frames and lenses--no prices on anything but I never pay more than $200 for frames and top-notch lenses at Sam's Club so I figured it would be a good way to get new glasses. They claimed the frames alone were close to $200 and nearly $300 for the very, very bottom-of-the line plastic, not even scratch-resistant lenses. Are you kidding me?!? Absolutely ridiculous. Would have been better off just eating the cost of the Groupon and taking my business elsewhere. I hate these guys. more

Substandard Optical: Overpriced, Underhanded, Deceitful 1/5/2012

I recently went to (Sub)Standard Optical because of a groupon that was offered for their company. The groupon covered $180 good towards frames and lenses. I will give them 1 star for trying to be friendly and for the eye exam going mostly well, but it was all down from there. The glasses they offer are cheaply made, and there are no prices marked on them. I wanted just a standard pair of eyeglasses, with standard lenses. I picked them out and ended up paying more than $400 out of pocket, after the groupon. Obviously that felt wrong, so I looked up the frames on google. The first 5 results on google that wanted to sell those frames were offering them at almost 1/3 of the price that Standard Optical charged. The sites sold them as a 'deal' and showed the retail price. S.O. was substantially higher than even suggested retail! Who do they think they're conning. I called them back within 2 hours of ordering, and told them to stop my order. If they were ripping me off with frames, they were probably ripping me off with lenses as well. I told them I would be in to discuss the order later. -- The next day I went in, and they told me they couldn't give me a full refund because the order had been shipped out that morning. What ungodly bullcrap is that? -- I had to raise cain, and ruin the better part of a week (and my entire weekend), but eventually I got my refund. I took my prescription and went elsewhere with my business. You should save yourself a trip, and simply pass this company over, regardless of what 'deal' they offer. Side note: I found out they didn't measure the distance between my eyes. In all likelihood the overpriced, cheaply made glasses would probably ended up giving me a headache beyond what subStandard Optical already caused. more

Unclear Pricing, Expensive, Unprofessional, Questionable Business Practice 2/2/2009

I used to go to Standard Optical, since I had Optiare of Utah insurance by them through my work (I work for the state). Well?..Not anymore. Tell you why?? They do not have clear pricing on anything in their stores. You pick frames or lenses and they look up the price by the color code in their ?secret price book?. I made 2 pairs of eye glasses (one regular and one sunglasses). I picked 2 frames and ordered transition lenses, anti-glare coating for the regular pair and polarized lenses for the sunglasses. Both frames were ?on sale?, by the way. The total came out over $600 WITH Opticare of Utah insurance! The young girls that they hire to serve customers do not know what they are doing. This one girl gave me 3 different totals for the same eyeglasses. They are also really bad at adjusting frames to fit on your face (or they don't care). Their receipt is hard to read and understand. (I had to beg for an itemized receipt later on.) They say they have things on sale or their insurance cover certain percentage of frame and lenses. But how good would that be if you, the customer, don?t know what the base price really is??? I went to EyeMasters this time. I ordered two pairs of glasses with the same specifications. The total was $400 WITHOUT insurance. WOW, am I just lucky??? Or Standard Optical has questionable business practice??? I think that the state should drop them as a vision care provider. EyeMasters was not in my new vision insurance providers (I have EyeMed now), so I will have to request ?out of network provider reimbursement?. Nevertheless, it was so much better than what I paid for Standard Optical. EyeMasters? customer service was great. I did not have to beg for itemized receipt. They printed the receipt right there in front of me, explained each price of items and discounts they applied, and gave me two copies. more
