I used to go to Standard Optical, since I had Optiare of Utah insurance by them through my work (I work for the state). Well?..Not anymore. Tell you why?? They do not have clear pricing on anything in their stores. You pick frames or lenses and they look up the price by the color code in their ?secret price book?. I made 2 pairs of eye glasses (one regular and one sunglasses). I picked 2 frames and ordered transition lenses, anti-glare coating for the regular pair and polarized lenses for the sunglasses. Both frames were ?on sale?, by the way. The total came out over $600 WITH Opticare of Utah insurance! The young girls that they hire to serve customers do not know what they are doing. This one girl gave me 3 different totals for the same eyeglasses. They are also really bad at adjusting frames to fit on your face (or they don't care). Their receipt is hard to read and understand. (I had to beg for an itemized receipt later on.) They say they have things on sale or their insurance cover certain percentage of frame and lenses. But how good would that be if you, the customer, don?t know what the base price really is??? I went to EyeMasters this time. I ordered two pairs of glasses with the same specifications. The total was $400 WITHOUT insurance. WOW, am I just lucky??? Or Standard Optical has questionable business practice??? I think that the state should drop them as a vision care provider. EyeMasters was not in my new vision insurance providers (I have EyeMed now), so I will have to request ?out of network provider reimbursement?. Nevertheless, it was so much better than what I paid for Standard Optical. EyeMasters? customer service was great. I did not have to beg for itemized receipt. They printed the receipt right there in front of me, explained each price of items and discounts they applied, and gave me two copies.
