How can the Mother of Seven fall off their Radar ? 3/26/2014

On first night after surgery, my wife called me on her cell phone, crying in pain. To call the hospital because she couldn't reach a nurse, for pain management . Her surgeon wanted her out on Tuesday, but no-one knew till Wednesday. Her bad reactions to the pain Meds Nor her dietary changes had been addressed yet. Billing all the while has already visited, asking when she could start paying ! more

Very bad hospital, no communication at all 12/19/2013

This hospital is the worst when it comes to communication. I had some trouble urinating, so I went to try and figure out what was going on. They said, they thought I had an STD, even though I told them I had not been sexually active. They tested for STD's anyways. 30 minutes later, a nurse comes in, and coldly orders me to lay on my side. Then she prepares a syringe, and gets ready to stick me, before I stop her and ask her what she is giving me. She gets all huffy, and says it's for my gonorrhea. So I say, Oh, I tested positive? Again, all huffy, NO, YOU TESTED NEGATIVE. OK, well then I'll pass on being treated for gonorrhea then, seeing as how I don't have any of the symptoms. She storms off, all angry, and I wait about 45 minutes until another nurse comes in. She asks if I'm feeling better. No, because I haven't been treated for anything. She asks me my symptoms again, and I explain everything. She says it sounds like I need to see the urologist, and she asks if she'd like me to send him over. I say yes. 15 minutes later, another nurse comes in and gives me discharge papers. For that, I get a bill of just under $7000. If I'm ever dying, I'd take my chances and go to a different hospital, even if it was further away. At least you'd get competent help somewhere else. There were two nice ladies that worked at the greeting desk, but inside the hospital everybody was cold and condescending. I don't expect warm and friendly in a hospital, but when I'm sick and all I want is to know whats wrong with me, I don't want to be talked down to like a child. more

needs to learn to communicate 9/14/2011

My mother has been in and out of this hospital for the past 2 weeks, and though she has asked at least 4 times, and my sister and I have talked to various people including the patient advocate none of the doctors treating her apparently can be bothered to call us to explain what is going on with her. We just found out that she is going in for surgery in a couple of hours (from her) and still nothing from the hospital or their doctors despite repeated requests. NOT A HOSPITAL TO RECOMMEND because they do a really bad job of communicating........ This is not a privacy issue, as they have all the necessary paperwork to talk to us and were asked specifically to do so by the patient. more

Whiny Patients, underappreciated Staff! 7/12/2011

If anybody thinks that they will get seen in an hour at a busy E.R. for dehydration or chronic back pain, they are fooling themselves. Really guys, the HAVE to put heart attacks and strokes ahead of you. Stop being the selfish entitled American and realize that the hospital is NOT going to be a stay at the Ritz Carlton. You are sick, you're going to be grumpy. Grow up and stop taking it out on the staff who have dedicated their lives to taking care of you (when you obviously did nothing to take care of yourself). St. Josephs is awesome! more

A HORRID ER experience 5/16/2008

I threw my back out in the morning, and waited until the evening to be seen. I thought I could just let it pass, but no. It was so bad I decided to go to the CSJ ER. The ER waiting room was dingy and dirty looking. There was vomit on the floor that remained there the entire 3.5 hours I waited to be seen. I finally was taken to a bed and was subsequently treated like human trash by the doctor who saw me once he assessed that my back pain was not bad enough to paralyze me. He read all my past pain med scripts loudly enough so that the elderly couple in the next bed (and anyone else in the room) could hear and told me to ice my back. (Let it be known that none of these scrips were for back pain save for one a year ago after throwing my back out like this. All were for surgeries or from my OB.) He then told me that he has back pain, and his son has had back surgery, and neither of them take anything. I didn't come into the ER looking for narcotic medication. He didn't even offer me an ice pack after repeatedly telling me that ice would help it. I left feeling violated and like I had done something wrong for wanting to not have to hobble around for the whole day before I could get in with my doctor. I will never go to this hospital for anything again. more

The worst hospitial I have ever been too 1/2/2007

I had already been diagnosed with a very painful colitis. The diagnosis was already complete all I needed was treatment. Sine my prognosis was sent from a different state, I had to fly back to AZ to receive treatment (insurance issues). The emergency room was filthy and unkept, the bathrooms were unsanitary and the staff was (my RN especially) was very rude a had refused to read the paperwork that my doctor had sent over telling me she was too busy to read my packet (it was only the first page that had to be read). I have never received health care like this in my entire life and left the hospital without treatment in pain. more

Carondelet St. Joseph's Hospital 9/30/2005

St. Joseph's Hospital is a great place is you're pregnant and in search of a local hospital to deliver your baby. I highly recommend this place because the nurses genuinely and truly care for you and your newborn. We were taken care of immediately upon walking through the emergency double doors. This was a blessing considering it takes several hours to be seen at other hospitals. The nurses were very friendly and fast in getting me the proper care. In no time, I was prepped and ready to deliver. Unexpectedly, my baby and I had to stay a little longer than the customary 1-2 days hospital stay postpartum. Our dear baby had to stay at the NICU, but the staff kept my spirits alive by giving me confidence in them. Even though there were many mother delivering and they needed the bed space, they even made sure that I had a room so I can tend to our baby. They cared for our baby as if our newborn was their own... they cared for me as if I were their own. They were very caring and this is one experience that I will always treasure. Thank you! more
