I have been to eye glass stores all over the place with no success and finally found my pair of glasses (that I LOVE) at The Spectacle Shoppe. I now adore this store. What I liked: * They had some great frames - I actually found 3 that I would consider buying where other stores I would find zero. * The sales people are awesome. Some glass store salespeople hover and become annoying. Others ignore you. They had a great balance of helping me find a great pair while letting me wander and look and explore. I love trying on strange frames even when I'm not looking to buy. Spectacle Shoppe is the most entertaining place to do this! I've driven by the West St. Paul location many times and finally visited. The vintage selection is full of surprises and browsers are welcome to try on anything. I don't want to give the impression that SS only sells off-beat styles. They carry quite a few perfectly normal brands (not that I'm into that) and I especially liked the Tom Ford frames. The price range in general extends reasonably low as well. The staff couldn't be any more friendly. When I started asking about insurance, and whether mine would work, two employees were working together to help me figure it all out. They gave me an estimate on what lenses would cost out-of-pocket and advised me as to how I could get the best deal for the particular frames I wanted. more

These guys are stumbling around in the dark when it comes to customer service. I just needed new prescription lenses for my sunglasses. I had to wait quite awhile (10 minutes or more) to get help but when I finally did it was easy to get information. When I returned to pick up the finished glasses, I had to wait 15 minutes. One of the two employees working acknowledged me when I walked in, while the other chatted casually with a customer (about their lives, not glasses-related) and finally she staged whispered ""Are you waiting?"" When I said ""yes"" she just went back to her conversation and finally the first employee perfunctorily helped me but seemed to just want to get me outta there. I left with glasses in hand, but just didn't feel very good about the transaction--like, how do I know these are polarized? I know I paid for that, but I have no receipt stating it. No mention of how to clean them, or to ""come back with any problems,"" or any of the usual banter that at least makes you feel taken care of. Charged me twice. Still no refund. 4/19/2010

Was charged twice for my glasses. When I called they blamed the fact that they had upgraded their phone system. The woman gave no apology and told me I should already see one of the charges credited back to my account. Three days later I still have haven't gotten the second charge reversed. Praying it gets reversed before the IRS deposits the tax check I wrote them. In short don't go there unless you've got a good buffer in your checking account, and you can swallow not even getting an apology for their incompetence. Arrogant and Incompetant 10/14/2009

Bought a pair of glasses costing almost a thousand dollars from their New Brighton location. 4 months later, after numerous comedy of errors and a total absence of communication on their part, still didn't have the glasses. Took another month to get my money back. No apologies, no conciliation, just plain arrogance. Can't think of a worse buying experience at any retail establishment. Cons: Everything more

Price isn't everything! 8/24/2009

I just came back from the shoppe where I purchased some glasses a year ago. I have back back six months ago because the coating on my glasses had came off. They said it was a bad batch from the manufacturer. They fixed it but it took two weeks when they said four days. No glasses for two weeks for me! Now the nose pad broke after one year. I take great care of my glasses. I wear contacts for sports and only wear them at work and to read. They wanted me to go to another glass shop that would sodder it. what! I said no, and they said sorry, no frames for you. Also the coating has come off the glasses again. I only use the cloth they gave me to clean them. In summary, while the prices may be low, the total cost of ownership and the customer service do not warrant recommending this establishment. It is more marketing hype than anything else. Exceeded my expectations! 8/18/2009

I loved this shopping experience! I thought I couldn't afford the Spectacle Shoppe, but went in anyway. I discovered that their sale beat every sale out there! I found a good selection of glasses I liked, and was given the time and space to explore and try them on. The salesperson was so nice, relaxed, and knowledgable...not pushy at all! I was very surprised at the negative review I read. I started buying glasses at the west saint paul loacation about six years ago. The staff there has always been kind and were never pushy with me. I go in often just to browse and I ask questions and get great feed back. The awsome selection and the staffs are the reason I go there. Some people simply do better shopping online. As a kid I got teased for my glasses like most of us,but now I am asked all the time where I got my glasses. Now you have more then one opinion. Let the next opinion be your own. Pros: great choices Cons: Ican't afford as many pairs as I want more

Pushy and rude people work here. 5/10/2008

\r Yes, they have a huge selection of hard to find items, but the attitude of the sales staff ruined this place for me. I just wanted to browse--no big deal--but they wouldn't leave me alone. I was accosted by three separate people, twice by the same person with a follow up ""Are you SURE you don't need any help?"" Wow, how rude--apparently, I must look like some sort of a helpless idiot. Which part of ""just browsing"" don't they get? I had to leave after about 5 minutes of being in their store today, and not only will I never go back, I'll be dissuading everyone I know from ever going here.\r more
