Worst Spa in Monterey 6/8/2011

Actual Conversation: Me: Can you go a little deeper? I asked for deep tissue? MT: Sorry this is as deep as I can go... I just got out of school and I don't know how to do deep tissue very well... Me: Well can you go get someone one else that can? MT: No we don't do that... Front desk/owner wasn't helpful about it either and insisted I pay for deep tissue. I was all for paying for the massage but not the higher deep tissue rate when I didn't receive it. Will not return EVER or the one they own at the Marriott either! more

Robin did my massage and she too was absolutely amazing. She used just the right amount of pressure and was also very thorough. I'd definitely ask for her again too! They also had a steam room--this spa had everything I wanted! more

I went here for the first time 3/16/2011

I went here for the first time when I was married. for a couples massage. After my divorce I needed a pick me up and called the Spa on my birthday (over two years ago). I was greeted nicely by the staff who answered the phone. I asked about waxing services along with massages. The girl on the phone was knowledgable and sweet and suggested I use their sauna/showers after getting a wax. I asked if they did Brazilians as I had not ever gotten one. Bikini wax yes but not the Full Monty. She quickly went into the aesthethician who provided that service, Liz. more

least two times a year for more than 10 years 3/11/2011

I have been going to Spa on the Plaza at least two times a year for more than 10 years. Every experience has exceeded my expectations. I always get a facial and a massage. The therapists are the best I have found and always seem to go the extra mile and spend a little extra time. There are many options closer to home but I have been disapointed too many times. I prefer to make the trek to Monterey to get the best. more

I went to this day spa around February of 2008 3/1/2011

I went to this day spa around February of 2008 (before renovations took place) and had a wonderful massage treatment on that occasion. I did not return until after the renovations were complete - this visit was April 12th 2009 - and had an amazing athletic massage which included some stretching as well. I requested the coconut balm and it was a mild (not sun tan lotion smelling) aroma that was soothing and made my skin very smooth. The masseuse was very good, firm in all the sore spots (he did a great job figuring out where all the tension was). The staff were all professional, the facilities were clean and I left feeling relaxed and simultaneously rejeuvinated. I will definitely return. more

I loved this Spa. The atmosphere is very relaxing. First I had a massage that was very refreshing. The therapist asked me how I would like it to be performed and I really enjoyed every minute of it. I had a facial which was also incredible and I could finally find out a specialist's opinion about some issues that had been bothering me for a long time. I purchased some good products that will help my skin a lot! In the end I had a hairdo with a very talented stylist. I am very particular about my hairstyle, as I chose French coiffures that are pretty rare and hard to do. Even if this was probably the first time the stylist saw it, she did it exactly how I wanted it done....so I am very grateful about it. I would definitely come back to this Spa. The personnel were very welcoming, I loved the services, I like the interiors and the pool, which has a very nice garden around... I would recommend to everyone who wants to have a day at a spa. more

it was worth every penny 2/14/2011

So me and the wife went to Monterey for the weekend from san jose and I decided to pamper her. She always goes to LaBelle in Palo Alto or Los Gatos spa for her facials. I decided to get her one at this place to suprise her. She was hesitant at first because she always goes to the same ladies, but we got a girl named Vanessa who took great care of her. Now my wife swears by this place and says she will start driving out to Monterey just to get her facials by Vanessa. She talked about it the whole ride home and loved the products Vanessa recommended, which suprised me since she has been ordering the same products from LaBelle for years now. So I would definitely recommend any guy who wants to pamper their wife or girl to try this place, it was worth every penny and still cheaper than LaBelle. So now she wants a monthly trip out to Monterey for her facial while I take the kids to the aquarium. more

The spa was just lovely 2/7/2011

I recently spent time in Monterey and visited the Spa on the Plaza for the first time. The spa was just lovely! The treatments included soaks in a variety of tubs and the candle-lit ambience and new age music was very calming. The therapists were very skilled and professional, as was the staff. I enjoyed my body scrub, massage and steam treatments. I highly recommend this spa and cannot wait to make another visit to Monterey! For a truly peaceful and relaxing day, you ought to visit the Spa on the Plaza! more

A friend of mine suggested I get a massage here, as she said she had the best massage ever from a man named Lawrence. I decided to get one with him and, as my first massage, my expectations were way beyond exceeded! I admit I was really uncomfortable because it was a male massage therapist, but he made me feel so at ease! I've gone back to him multiple times and have never been disappointed with services or with any of the staff! It's a wonderful place to go to relax and there's so many choices of services. I can't wait to try more!!! :) more

They offered the best packages for the area 1/6/2011

Spa on the Plaza is a stones throw from Fisherman's Wharf. They offered the best packages for the area (I checked!). Very nicely decorated, Zen elegance, clean, peaceful, helpful knowledgeable staff. The package I purchased included an aromatheropy jacuzzi bubble bath, light body brush, mud wrap w/foot massage, rinse and full body massge. I upgraded the massage to sports (+$10.00) which was totally worth it. Make sure to reserve the sauna when you check in. The whole experience was what you want when you're on vacation. The Spa on the Plaza is now a permanent fixture on my "To Do" list when visiting Monterey. more

I chose Spa on the Plaza 1/4/2011

I checked all over for a good spa to visit during our stay in the Monterey/Carmel area. After reading reviews and visiting the spas websites, I chose Spa on the Plaza. Boy was I glad I did. The interior is terrific and beautifully appointed. There is a large changing room with lockers (robe and slippers), showers and amenities. The quiet area is good to relax in both before and after your treatment. I had the mud wrap which started with a nice warm bath soak followed by the wrap. But, the best part was the massage I got from Ottie who really knows her stuff! I had a few aches in my low back and upper right shoulder. She has just the right amount of strength followed by an even stroke that soothed these areas. I was very pleased with her technique and came away from the massage just as I had intended! more
