I went in for the FIRST time and had no idea that they not only had any kind of hardware and building supplies anyone would need - but a whole assortment of other things - laundry detergent, candles, cleaning supplies, dog treats, etc. - like a typical salvage store would have - for deeply discounted prices. EVERYONE who I met in the store greeted me and asked if I needed any help and each one was extremely nice. (Professional and kind customer service is extremely important to me as it seems so rare these days - so when they were all so nice, I couldn't help but write this review.) \r \r I can't believe I've never stopped into this place before. I'm going back to buy lots of stuff for fixing up my 1920's home. Why anyone would shop at a big hardware conglomerate with these folks in town is beyond me! more

They were very helpful. When I explained to them that Ollie's sold me some inferior laminate that was impossible to put down correctly, they assured me that theirs would would work beautifully and they were right. I bought some of the lower dollar stuff and was treated as if I were making a large purchase. He said he'd stand behind his product but it's a moot point because it's great stuff. Here's the kicker. I paid less for the good product at 109 Southside than for the worthless stuff at Ollies! more

Would not admit they were wrong 9/21/2011

My husband and I were remodeling our house back in June 2010, and we went to 109 to check out their flooring. 1st day I went they were closing, like at 3pm. Ok, whatever. We went back in a couple more days, found some flooring we like, and purchased it. Here comes the problem. My hubby started laying the floor. It just wasn't working out correctly. Our house is over 100yrs old, so we thought it was the house throwing the flooring off. My hubby got frustrated and gave up. So, we hired my brother to lay the flooring. My brother is very experienced at laying flooring I might addd. My brother got right to work the next day. While my brother was laying the floor, I was painting one of the bedrooms. He called me in the Dining Room and showed me why the flooring wasn't going together correctly for my husband. Some of the boxes were cut properly where the floor goes together, some were cut way to much and were breaking. Needless to say I went and checked all the boxes and loaded up the defective ones. Took the defective flooring back to 109 Bargain the next day, showed them the defective pieces, and told them they were not going together right. Then the very large man proceeded to tell me there was nothing wrong with the flooring that we were doing it wrong, had some little Hispanic guy throw it together on the floor right in front of me. I showed him how the flooring was cut to much in the groove where it goes together. He told me it is suppose to be like that. He didn't know me very well, cause when I know I am right, I will argue with you til the cows come home (literally). The whole time I was arguing with the guy, my husband hanging his head embarrassed cause he knows I was getting ready to show my butt. We stood there for 30 minutes (maybe longer), back and forth, and finally he saw that I was right. All of the flooring I brought back was cut wrong. Once he realized that, he was very apologetic and even gave me a floor cleaner marked at $39.00 (they probably paid $5 for it). They finally switched out the defective flooring and we were on our way home. Heck, the very large man even called us while we were on our way home, giving us some line of crap on how and why the flooring was defective. What happen to the saying, the customer is always right? Guess they have never heard of that one. more

Awesome Cabinets and Very Helpful Service ! 7/2/2011

My husband and I purchased our front door from your store in 1995 when it was 109 Salvage, we were very pleased with the door and the quality ! We came back to your store (now Southside Bargain Center) during this past winter to look at your cabinets for a remodeling job. Again, we were impressed, and came back in May 2011 and purchased over $2,000.00 worth of cabinets. We have installed them and they look Great ! We have had many compliments on them and people have asked where we purchased them. Southside Bargain Center ! The staff has been Great and Very Helpful and We Will be Back ! I'll will strongly recommend them to anyone that can use there products ! Keep up the Great Work !!!! Sandy In Virginia more

Wow.... Just plain RUDE 6/10/2010

I guess this is what one would expect from a ""Bargain"" store, but seriously - do they have to be SO rude over the phone when you call to ask a question? I called to ask about 3 conductor 110 wire to install a ceiling fan. The guy on the other line wouldnt acknowledge I had a question and I actually thought that my phone was giving me problems - Hello? Can you hear me? - I said, then in a snide voice the guy says ""yeah Im here what was your question? Im sure that I will not be doing business with them any time soon! Cons: Rude customer service more

Very poor customer service! 2/19/2010

I live over 60 miles away from this business and called to ask if they had a certain product before driving a long distance. I was told NO in a very rude tone and immediately hung up on ! How rude is that? I was needing some other supplies also but never got a chance to ask ! It was their loss and Lowes gain. more

not a good deal 1/16/2010

they tell that they have good prices but what they dont tell you is that they sell you second quality merchandise at a first quality price , you are better off going to lowes and another thing the employees are more interested in getting you to get them to install there producte than they are selling you the merchandise they have in the store i would not recommend this place to ANY ONE. most of there merchandise is poor quality they sell secondhand shingles with no warranty for only two to three dollars cheaper than first hand with a warrenty so beware contracters will buy them here and sell them to you at a much higher price more
