Be warned! Shady business 8/20/2009

My husband and I called 2 weeks prior to vacation and made a reservation with Keith at Southpoint Divers. We went with another dive site. We called back and cancelled five minutes later with the same person. The day of the planned dive we recieveda phone call from a women with southpoint . She wanted to no why we didn't show. We explained we cancelled five minutes after we booked. She said that she would take care of any charges to us. They didn't and said we never cancelled. I told them I could pull up phone records and Keith advised me that just because I called back doesn't mean i called to cancel. Poor and shady business!!! Be warned. Cons: Shady dive site more

Best Dive Boat Ever! 9/5/2008

My buddies and I went down to Key West in July. We are all certified divers but we weren't sure if we would do any diving while we were their. We stopped into a couple places to check it out. After being discouraged by just about every shop we went in we found Southpoint Divers. We were looking for some real diving..not just an exteme snorkel trip. They had a deep wreck dive they took us on in the morning. You could tell they had done this a time or two. They had lines set up for us immediately after the boat stopped and their briefing was great. Not to mention the boat was a real dive boat. Some of my buddies are pretty big guys and we need a little room to gear up. It was by far the best dive boat I have ever been on, and I have dove all over the Caribbean. If I make it back to Key West I will definitely be diving with Southpoint again. Pros: Really organized and knowledgable more

Best place to learn Scuba Diving 9/5/2008

My family and I finally got to take the trip to Key West we have been waiting for. With having both of my sons in the teenage years it is impossible to get the excited about anything. We thought we would try scuba diving. We were on our way to dinner and we came across Southpoint Divers. We stopped in to see what kind of courses they offer. Their knowledgable staff answered all of our questions and even got my sons excited to start the course. They were able to get us started the very next day with their resort course. The instructor was unbelievable and incredibly patient with my wife, who was very hesitant after hearing there might be sharks. He got all of us in the water and we loved it. Now all I can here from my sons is how much they want to get their full certification. We are already planning our next trip to Key West and we will definietly be getting our certifications with Southpoint Divers. more

Very good dive operation 7/23/2008

My husband and I are new divers and Key West was going to be our first dive after our certification dives. We booked our dives on the internet through a company called key west dive center. com but later found out that they are a call center( not even in Key West). We were told that there would be a divemaster leading the dives and were very unhappy when we were told by the actual dive shop that the dives are non-guided. Reluctantly, we still went on the dives and were very impressed. The reef sites we went to were very shallow, only 30 feet or less. The divemasters breifing though long, was very informative and explained exactly how to navigate teh site, lost scenarios and they were very concious of the reef and how to not touch it. We saw everything we wanted to see, sharks, stingrays, eels and lots and lots of fish. The coral didnt look that good but we were told that the hurricanes had destroyed alot of the coral. But there was still alot of fish to see. We did both dives by ourselves and felt confident enough to do their morning wreck dive which is deeper. The next day we did Joes Tug and they set up a line so we could get to the wreck. The divemaster gave another indepth briefing on the wreck, the history and how to navigate with safety stop too. We will be going back to Key West next year and want to get our Advanced course with them. \r The only problems were with the other dive shop or reservation agent as they are not really a dive shop. We should have just gone directly with Southpoint Divers. The toilet was broken when we were on the boat that day too. Pros: Very professional crew, nice boat. convenient location Cons: go direct. avoid the middleman websites more

Professional dive shop 5/30/2008

I just returned from Key west and did a 2-tank dive with Southpoint. I found the crew to be very knowledge and informative. They do assume that everyone is a seasoned diver when they allow you to book the trip. It does state that the first dive would be a wreck dive in 70-95 feet of water. Though the assume all are experienced Open or Advanced Open water divers, they don't stress it up front. They should add this, as well as a recommendation for bringing a dive watch with you as the dives are unguided (this is stated though). However, as an experienced diver, these were not issues to me and I greatly enjoyed the dives, the crew and the company. Pros: Friendly, knowledgeable crew Cons: Need a bit more upfront communication more
