CON:\r -lack of parking\r -sketchy tenants\r -pool is frequently closed\r -rude staff\r -car got broken into while living here\r -high price\r -broken basketball goal\r -unprofessional\r -frequent maintenance issues with appliances\r -general feeling of not being safe after dark as walking to and from car due to frequent occasions of men hanging around parking lot at all hours of the night\r -horrible fitness center, old treadmill and ancient eliptical\r \r PRO:\r -great size of rooms\r -nice pool when it is actually open and staffed with a lifeguard\r -close to several stores and restaurants\r -fast response to maintenance requests\r -updated feel to apartments\r \r On the outside this place looks amazing. Once you sign the lease it is an entirely different story. We chose these apartments because she liked the pool, tennis court, and size of rooms in apartments. We rented a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom for one year. Over the course of the summer the pool was FREQUENTLY closed due to poor staffing of lifeguards. When a lifeguard would not show up the management closed the pool for the entire day, even if it was on a weekend. When paying such a high price ($950 monthly) you are paying for amenities, like the pool. So, for it to be closed so often it was very disappointing and felt like a rip off. Also, staff was very unprofessional. They have loud inappropriate conversations and ignore residents until they are finished talking, then they rudely act as if you are bothering them. We moved out because we got married and when we did move out it was an ordeal. We payed a $300 non-refundable deposit at move in. We are both professionals who take very good care of our things, don't party, and are did not put up many decorations. Therefore, there were no holes in the walls or other property damage and we did a thorough clean at move out. The day we did the move-out walk through they told us they would probably charge us an additional $100 cleaning fee for slightly excessive stove cleaning and one shower that ""didn't meet their standards"". At the time we were willing to accept that. Two weeks later we got a move out bill of $300! They sited costs of ""excessive cleaning of cabinets"" at $25 PER CABINET and excessive cleaning of stove $75. We were never told this would be an issue at move out and were unjustly crooked out of our money. This is all in addition to the fact that the tenant population got gradually worse as the days went on. There were people always hanging around cars late at night, which eventually led to my friends car being broken into, and cars that drive around the parking lots at all hours of the night playing very loud music. This is no place for children or anyone of any class. My advise is to keep looking, you pay an excessive amount of money to live here and ultimately it is not worth the high cost. If you enjoy a pool that is closed 25% of the time, loud residents, feeling unsafe as you are going to your car after dark, and terribly customer service then this is the apartment complex for you.\r \r \r more

worst in the city 9/21/2009

managment is immature, irresponsible, unresponsive...they do not care for residents or the property, maintenece is the same exact way, units taken over with ants, fitness room is broken down, many break-ins the staff does not tell you about, they raise the rent constantly, rude staff, maintenance/office staff comes into your unit whenever they feel like it.... Example of Southgate issues: after i had made THREE requests for my AC to be repaired, they still would not come and i had waited already for three weeks so i went to the office and told them it needed to be fixed or I was leaving....they still refused and the next morning before I was able to leave for work they had towed my car...stating I did not have the now neseccary parking sticker in the window...i stood in the office and started calling the police because the parking sticker did not exist...then they said it was a misunderstanding but would not pay me back for the tow fee..this is the kind of stuff you have to deal with here! Pros: nothing whatsoever Cons: everything more

Worse than you could ever imagine 8/21/2009

The units look nice until you go to move into them. They are falling apart like you wouldnt believe. The refridgerator doesnt work, I dont have the washer/dryer hookup like I am supposed to, and they are filthy when you go to move in. The complex did not even bother to clean the toilet. The maintenence will not bother to fix your appliances or the amenties. The management are very immature and rude people. You can hear all of your neighbors. Pros: nothing Cons: apartments in bad condition, management is aweful more

so bad i dont know where 2 start! 4/13/2009

Noise---very loud at night in the apartments Pros: none really Cons: management, staff, maintenence, smell, construction, noise,e more

Don't move here!!! 12/16/2008

The property looks great and the staff will be really nice but things change once you sign a lease! Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere! Maintenance and office staff either don't respond or don't fix things right. Sounds like my neighbors on all sides are my roommates! more

Nice apartments but amenities are a joke.....high prices 8/13/2008

The layout of the inside of the apartment is quite nice and the apartments themselves are kept in working order and are quite pretty. Also, the location of Southgate Manor Apts is also quite nice as they are located near many businesses and restaurants. However, the amenities here are a complete joke. There is only one working dryer in the laundry room (out of 5) and the fitness room only contains 3 machines. Of these three machines, only 1 is is working order. The television from this room is constantly missing and there are OUT OF ORDER signs posted on everything at the complex. Many of the lights throughout the grounds are not working making the grounds very dark at night. Also, the management has been allowing more and more ""troubled renters"" to move in to the complex. I have lived here for just a few months and the place has consistently gone down hill during that time...there are better complexes in the area for less money. Pros: layout, parking, location Cons: fitness room, laundry room, upkeep more
