Best

This place is really amazing. Great staff, great food, something you rarely find in Fremont. REAL BBQ is hard to come by in California and we're lucky to have real Arkansas BBQ ...

Worst

I have been to this restaurant 2 times and what caught my eye was a sign that they have up saying ""good food ain't cheap and cheap food ain't good"" I agree with this all the way...

A balance of good and bad 2/21/2011

Before going here I have read comments about it. All I can say is that I love the food. After a few years after going in and out here I kind of noticed their improvements. The service is not the slow anymore; but is to be expected because they are serving good barbeques. If you want to have the full experience, then prepare to wait and go when there are not a lot of people. more

Great food, a little expensive and slow service 9/2/2009

I've been here about 4 or 5 times, the food was always good, but a little pricey for what you get and the service was extremely slow. If your going to get take out, call it in and go pick it up in 45 minutes. If you are eating in allow plenty of time to eat, it will be a long night. Pros: Great tasting bar-b-q Cons: Little pricey and slow service more

Excellent BBQ in Fremont 8/23/2007

The southern hospitality is grreat, the staff maybe slow but, ""Food that 's fast just ain't good food"". The pulled pork and the chicken are very moist and tasty. The catfish is favorful and the potato salad is off the hook good. The meat is smoked to perfection. The red beans and rice is very spicy and good.\r Southern Heritage cater our family reunion and the serve and food was even better than in the restaurant.\r I have frequent the restuurant several time and keep taking people there. It Fremont's best kept secret.\r Southern Heritage you can't please everybody but you kept pleasing me and I will return. Pros: Excellent food and good staff Cons: Timeliness, is to be desired more

BBQ if you have the time. 6/15/2007

Tonight was aweful. I know they are overpriced, I also know that they are very slow, and I know that people are human and make mistakes but tonight was rediculous. Waited 40 minutes for a salad with thousand Island dressing and 2 way dinner combo with mild sauce. FINALLY after asking 20 minutes later the guy tells me they are working on it right now. ha ha. OK 20 more minutes later, I ask again and it is there sitting behind the counter ready to go. I walk home (3 minutes away) and the thousand Island dressing is ""oil and vineger, No wheat bread, NO BREAD AT ALL, the links are covered in HOT sauce and everything is almost cold. $22.00 for this????. OUCH! I would have went back furious but I had just waisted too much time there already. - Davey Pros: Good BBQ. Links, Brisket, Pulled pork, pork ribs. more

Real American Down Home Food. 2/18/2007

This place is really amazing. Great staff, great food, something you rarely find in Fremont. REAL BBQ is hard to come by in California and we're lucky to have real Arkansas BBQ right here in town. Everything about the place is very homey, they are friendly and courteous. The pulled pork is excellent, the potato salad is the best I think I've ever had, and there isn't anything on the menu not to love. The only thing I haven't tried is the fried catfish. And how many places serve fried okra? This place just feels american and its a fun place to eat.\r \r As others have noted, it takes time. There are funny slogans on the wall and one of them says something like ""Good food ain't fast, and fast food ain't good""... its true, they don't sugar coat it. If you have young children make sure to call ahead or have something for them to do. When I take my family we typically order 2 or 3 dinners and just share them among the table so we can enjoy a little of everything.\r \r My only critique really is that they do use a lot of sauce, but I don't know if that is typical of this style of BBQ or not. Despite that everything is smoked to perfection and you don't ever need a knife, the meat just slides off the bone. Pros: A real classic american dining experience with awesome food Cons: Make sure you have time to wait. more

Hmmmmmm 10/19/2006

I have been to this restaurant 2 times and what caught my eye was a sign that they have up saying ""good food ain't cheap and cheap food ain't good"" I agree with this all the way. However I think they need to lower their prices. My mother and I both agree that the 2 times we have eaten there, while they are nice people. Their food is not that good. It was disappointing to see a ""soul food"" place out here in Fremont with such bad food. Pros: they tried to put something nice out here in Fremont Cons: anything you post make certain to follow it more

Great Sevice 4/14/2006

They restaurant focus soley on the food rather than the decor. The BBQ, potato salad, and beans are some of the best i have ever had. YOu don't think much when you taste potato salad. But trust me, as a critical eater, their potato salad is the bbest. The staff are incredibly considerate and helpful w the menu. The owner took his sweet time going over their large menu to narrow down my options. I have never had anyone at ANY restaurant spend so much time and effort to make my experience unforgetable. The service is always memorable. The food is great except for the cornbread muffins which was dry, and the green beans which were from a can. BEWARE! They are so busy on Friday and Saturday nights. The wait time is about 90 minsutes so call ahead. Pros: service, food Cons: decor, cornbread muffins, canned green beans more

Great soul food 9/8/2004

Delicious pulled pork, beef brisket, and chicken. The hot link sandwich is pretty good, too. The BBQ sauce is sweet here, not vinegary. Service can be slow, so plan ahead. Very friendly staff. Great neighborhood dive. Pros: delicious meat, friendly staff, good value Cons: , minimal decor more

Damn Good Soul Food: 9! 7/20/2002

Owner from the South makes awesome soul food! I don't know how it survives in a city with a lot of vegetarians, but it does--so it must be good. The pork and chicken are so tender and juicy--with sweet barbeque sauce. There are only a few people working at any given time so there can be a wait, but the owner is trying to find more workers in order to cut back on the wait. Pros: awesome food, competitive prices, friendly staff Cons: moderate wait more
