Loved the FOOD and the SERVICE 5/19/2011

It was a busy Saturday night, starving and tired from shopping we found a perfect restaurant to end a perfect day at Southend Brewery. A taster of all the brewed ice cold beer and FANTASTIC service. My catfish was the cat's meow and my son's ate everything on their plate, that never happens, they ate everything even their veggie's. I like said perfect SERVICE, FOOD to a perfect DAY :-) I think I like Charleston, we will be back! more

Pizza - YUM! 9/27/2010

We've eaten here twice when coming to Charleston on vacation. Sat outside both times and it was very nice to people watch and be in the open air. Most noteworthy meal out of both visits was the Wood Fired Pizza - Applewood Bacon, Ricotta, Chicken, Spinach and Tomatoes. Probably the best pizza I've ever eaten! more

little CRUNCH in my slaw 2/7/2009

1st time and the last time I will ever eat there again. Now don't get me wrong the food was good especially the crab cakes and calamari...but the cole slaw that came with my meal had a little surprise in it....a nasty little creature laying in my little bowl of slaw!!!!!!!!!!!! My husband and I was speechless....all this time we was raving about how good it was so far and to come to this was like whooohh!!! You'd figure going through that experience, that the bill should have been covered....well let me tell you it wasn't...we still had to pay half of the bill, which I thought was crazy!!!! I would not recommend nobody to go there! From reading the other reviews, I've come to the conclusion that this place has some little creature problems that needs to be taken care of ASAP!!!!!!!!! more

Best microbrewed Beer in Charleston, SC Southend Brewery and Smokehouse 11/13/2008

Southend Brewery and Smokehouse offers great food, microbrewed beers, a rustic setting and live entertainment. The center of attention is a functional and beautiful ""brewhouse"" encased in glass. and a spectacular view overlooking the Charleston Harbor from the third floor bar and game room. \r \r The menu features pastas, wood-oven pizzas, fresh daily fish, salads, sandwiches and specialty in-house smoked barbecue ribs, chicken and sausage. Open seven days a week for lunch and dinner with full service bar, brewery tours and glass elevator. All located in a historic building/landmark on East Bay Street. Great service and friendly staff. Visit the website for hours, menu, location, and tours southendbrewery net Pros: Beer, smokehouse BBQ, Bar more

Stick with the bar! 11/9/2008

The building is great - really interesting and HUGE - can easily accommodate large groups... The food overall was pretty good, too - though the crab cakes were absolutely TINY and being that they were delicious, I wanted MORE! The lobster bisque I must say is really excellent and the service is not bad but I just cannot get over the fact that we had an insect crawl across the table AS WE WERE EATING...\r \r I'd say stick to the bar or the ground floor... Insects - YUCK!\r \r In general, a good time was had by all, but the creepy crawly experience was definitely a downer for everyone at the table.\r \r There was live entertainment at 10PM which was kind of cool - I just wish I'd stuck to the bar... Pros: tasty food, great atmosphere, able to accommodate large parties, cool bar area Cons: upstairs seemed a little dirty and there was an insect incident more

Avoid this place, poor/absent management 6/25/2006

My wife and I decided to drop in here during a walking tour of the city. The service was promt and friendly, considering the place was packed when we first arrived. My wife ordered the crab cake sandwich, and I ordered the beef brisket sandwich. The crab cake sandwich was excellent, more crab than cake, the way I like it. Do Not order the beef brisket sandwich, no matter how good it sounds on the menu. This is possibly the worst sandwich I've ever had, two slices of lard covered in barbeque sauce. The funny thing is the guy at the table next to us had ordered the same sandwich and was also expressing his lack of enthusiasim to the waitress before I had recieved my order. The not so funny thing here is that the waitress did nothing about either of our complaints, and told us she couldn't find a manager to talk to us or correct our bills. By the time this all went down the place was fairly empty so I can't understand why we couldn't talk to someone. I would avoid this place because if you do have a problem with your meal or service, it seems you just have to deal with it. Pros: Good beer, Cool old building Cons: Very noisy, customer service not existent more

Solid 11/19/2005

First, if you appreciate good beer and variety, enjoy. Food is fresh and well prepared. Not gourmet but good. Burgers, pizza and tuna were all good. Waiter was excellent. I have dietary restrictions and he complied well. Ask for James, he made the experience well worth the price. Pros: beer, service , atmosphere Cons: large, noisy more

Not all that 3/20/2004

We had a group reservation. When we got there they were not ready for us. We waited over 45 min to finally get seated...Then the food was not that great at all. I was not happy and neither were the other 15 people we had in our group. So, you can go and try it out, but don't go if you are really hungry. Pros: atmosphere Cons: , food more
