South River Grill & Wine Shop

This place was highly recommended by the desk man at a nearby hotel. Having had wonderful sushi the night before in Front Royal, I decided to have it again. I ordered it rare. After a considerable wait in uncrowded restaurant, a fair portion arrived. The presentation was blah; a piece of kale and two lemon wedges. Ther was no discernable flavor to these chewy and overcooked pieces of ""sushi grade"" (hah!) tuna. They were only covered in black sesame seeds. The Caesar salad with ""house dressing"" was not Caesar salad. I paid the overpriced tab, and left angry. No way would I recommend this place. which tries to pass itself off as a fine-dining experience. more

I was going to meet my brother and his family at South River for dinner. His children and the children of one of his closest friends had ventured to the restaurant to eat as they had no desire to wait for us. Incidentally, my brother is a highly respected corporate CEO and his friend is a successful professional athlete. We never ate at the restaurant because the children were insulted by t he management for being there alone even though they were respectful and responsible. None of the management was helpful to the displeased parents. the on-site manager further insulted my brother and the owner was equally insulting in a response to his letter to her. My brother dropped the matter; however, I cannot. We never ate there and never will. Customer service is not high on their list. Cons: Poor Customer Service, Insulting, Rude to Children more

Waht a great find. The food was fresh and quality. From the home made soup, to the fresh fish and Angus Beef. The serice was friendly and good. A nice VA. wine list. The last few times I've been to the South River Grill the service has been terrible. The first time I was there the food was good, but was missing something. The second time I had the tuna and it was way overcooked and the service was bad. I tried again last night and had to wait 30 minutes to get a drink order in and also had to listen to the manager appologizing to the people behind me and the people next to me getting irate a little later because they were still waiting for their drink orders. The servers were running around but I didn't see any food coming to the tables. I decided to order a glass of wine to start and gave up when it took another 15 minutes to get to me.
