Good: All the turkey sandwiches I wanted after I had my daughter. Was taken good care of by nurses. Nothing hurt at all :-). Bad: When I went for a kidney stone got upset with one nurse because she asked some one else what I wanted when I pushed my button because I was in pain. One ER nurse didnt know how to give an IV.. Improvements: Faster service in ER. more

Blood All over the place for 3 days 7/8/2006

I gave birth to my daughter at South Crest and afterwards the staff left needles in my arm that were supposed to be removed. I also had blood left all over the floor for the 3 days I was there and not once was the trash taken out. It was piled up way above the rims of the trash cans. The room was stinking horribly because of all the blood. I asked the nurses several times and all they ever said was that they would send someone in. One curly-haired nurse, I remember was the only one that didn't act like a b*tch and actually gave me some advice I could use in the days and months ahead. Whoever she was who worked at South Crest in February 2002 in the maternity section taking blood samples I appreciate her help. (And this is what really gets me. I took lamaze classes at South Crest, signed up for an epidural, registered and all that. I was 10 days overdue so my doctor made me an appointment to be induced. I show up at the right time: 7am. Nobody even knows that I am suppose to be there and were going to send me down to the first floor to register again. Plus they said I wouldn't be able to receive an epidural. All of this until they actually got off their asses and checked!!!) more

Fast, but sometimes Questionable Care 4/6/2006

A couple years ago, my husband and I were diagnosed with pancreatitis, for no known reason. I was having various symptoms, but one night became really ill... vomiting blood. My husband rushed me to Southcrest Hospital's emergency department. They ran a few tests, and confirmed that there was bleeding in my stomach. Needless to say, I was admitted into the hospital. My complaint really isn't with their emergency department... really, as far as emergency rooms, I would rate theirs as one of the best in Tulsa. My complaint came from the care (or lack of care) I received while I was inpatient at Southcrest Hospital. I laid in a bed for several days, receiving IV fluids and IV pain medication. The problem is, they never did any testing to find out what was causing the bleeding in my stomach. They never gave me medication, besides for pain. After about five days, a counselor came in and told me that my insurance benefits would be running out, so I should really leave against medical advice, to go to the local county hospital where I could receive care that my insurance wouldn't cover. She then, because I had bruises, accused my husband of beating me!!!!! My husband is a little bitty guy... and I'm six foot tall! Well, it wouldn't have been so bad if she just asked, but when I explained that he did not hurt me, and that I have a condition that causes excessive bruising, she persisted. It was absolutely ridiculous! I ended up leaving the hospital, while I was still completely sick. It became apparent that they were not going to run any tests, because they knew my insurance would not pay. If you have an emergency that won't get you admitted... SouthCrest is a great place to go. If, however, you don't have an unlimited wallet, i would not recommend their inpatient care. more
