The atmosphere is first class at this gym. I never have to wait for equipment. The staff are friendly and the lockers are nice and clean. more

Editorial review from Citysearch 6/18/2013

The ventilation is perfect in this place. It’s nice to sweat out in here because it is not humid and the mats are always clean and the towels smell clean too. more

Funny how the sales associate and manager say the membership can be cancelled at anytime ""No Problem"". Never a mention that you are signing for a year contract. Then you are told that the ""Printer is Down"" so they can't give your a contract. If I would have seen it I would have realized I was being tricked and would have cancelled immediately.. and within the cancellation window. \r \r Total Scam.. more

awful, con artist, and overpriced 1/18/2011

chris serrato, never told me i was signing a yealy contract for about 2 thousand dollars, this is fraud and crunch and la fitness are almost nicer, this is a great place to see out of work celebs and pornstars, go to train if you really are rich, or be real and go to 24 hr fitness more

Spa Spa Spa Spa 6/30/2009

I come in the early AM for my work out before work, like 730-ish. \r \r I noticed that the spa opens at 9am and thought I would reward myself with a massage. \r \r They had a great deal - 9am - $90! \r \r Cant go wrong with that; put me in good spirits for work! Pros: Spa Deals more

Equinox has a great spa also 3/3/2009

This is a great, upscale gym with the added convenience of a beautiful spa. The view from the spa is amazing. You can see all of L.A. from Sunset Strip. Plus, it's nice to be able to go to the spa after a workout for a relaxing mani/pedi. Jamie is awesome. You can get massages and facials, too. Pros: Clean, nice staff, view, spa Cons: Pricey more

Cozy gym with awesome crowd and amenities 1/16/2009

This gym seems to be smaller compared to Westwood. There are classes I can't take because the Main Studio is really bad as far as the layout having a big pole stuck in the middle. But, when I could get there in time, I would make myself go take classes taught by knowledgeable instructors -- mind you some of them are pretty popular and you will have hard time getting through. In terms of the gay crowd, I don't think I care too much. I just ignore them you are here to work out not to pass judgment to anyone unless they offend me but so far so good. I don't plan on hanging out with them after class. Sorry dear! The crowd here -- gay or straight -- are still in much better shape than other Equinox locations I have found and def. one of the pros. The music instructors play in class is always awesome and really get your heart rate up. more

Great Place to Train 10/15/2008

The atmosphere is hip, several equipment choices so you never get bored, and lots of great classes for all fitness levels. Pros: Good Equipment, Very Clean Cons: Busy at certain times more

Greatest Gym(s) in LA 7/7/2008

Don't listen to any of the bad reviews - I love this gym! After five gyms and eight years in Los Angeles I found a place I love. At first I was concerned that it would be overpriced for what it is, but that isn't the case. Worth every penny so long as you take advantage of everything they have to offer. Knowledgeable and nice staff, wonderful classes, clean and swank locker rooms, and a great atmosphere altogether. I highly recommend Equinox to fitness freaks who don't mind paying a pretty penny in order to avoid out-of-work actors teaching spinning classes on the side to instead get instructors and trainers who are all about the fitness industry as it should be. Pros: Staff, classes, atmosphere Cons: Class instructors - feel free to ask around because the good ones are amazing and the bad ones are really bad (considering what you're paying)... more

Very Unprofessional 6/10/2008

The most Unprofessional place i have ever been involved with. My job wen i was 16 workin at Tower Records was more professional, than any of the EQUINOX gym's in Los Angeles... Not one of the So called Trainers, are even in shape. Why would you want to be trained by someone who has not a muscle on their body.. The managers at all Equinox L.A, are looking for trainers that can sell sell sell, not really train... These trainers are being told what to teach, and they dont even train that way themselves.. Who needs a clean gym anyway you are there to sweat and stink and sweat, dont be fooled by the clean atmosphere thats wayyyyyy overpriced Pros: Clean Cons: UNPROFESSIONAL STAFF more

Equinox Ad... Lack of Class From A Classy Club 2/1/2008

Was thinking about joining this Gym but... I just viewed the latest ad campaign for Equinox Fitness Clubs which was featured in Boston Magazine, and was totally outraged. It features a group of nuns in garter-belts admiring a nearnaked man.\r \r I have worked in the fashion industry and have been a subscriber to various fashion magazines. I understand the point of advertising is to entice the consumer to purchase a product. In the fashion industry, nearnaked models are utilized tremendously because obviously, it sells! While I may not agree with a few of these ads, I understand the concept behind it and can easily turn the page if I don't like what I'm looking at.\r \r However, in this case, I just couldn't look away because it sickened and angered me greatly to see Catholic nuns depicted in such a deplorable manner. I am asking all of you to view the ad and if you are as dismayed and offended as I am, please call Equinox Fitness Headquarters at 212-677-0180 and state your concerns or complaints! I'm hopeful that with your help, this ad will be pulled immediately. more

Serious workout, and quite a scene 10/29/2007

Moved to LA 6 months ago from NY, where i lived across the street from the Equinox on 19th St and Broadway. I looked around for a few gyms in the area, and this was an obvious first stop. Very recently, they completed a major renovation and they expanded the gym and built out a completely new yoga studio and spa. Seriously, it is a fantastic location. Very high end finishings, equipment, and service, but still feels lively and active and not at all stuffy. the new yoga studio is amazing. Large and quiet, good lighting and music, great mats, and nice oval shape. Lots of cardio equipment, brand new large spa, and what seems to be lots of personal trainers. They have a little shake & sandwich type place by entry way, but for a really good choice walk a few steps away to cafe primo which is right on sunset and has great food. If you are looking for a gym in west hollywood, you should stop by and consider this place. beware - they dont sell day passes.... i had a guest who tried to walk in and was turned away. more

Big, clean, and not too crowded 10/26/2007

Equinox is appropriately positioned back in the corner of the new structure across from Mel's -- at least for me who doesn't like being up front and public while in shorts and sweating. The space is large, with regularly maintained machines. Upstairs is much better now that they've expanded (after kicking the spa out to its own digs). The staff aren't very friendly though. They've recently been trying to improve however, I think, because now they annoyingly say ""Have a good workout, Eric"" by name. Seriously, just check me in and leave me alone unless I need something. The juice bar inside is good. The showers clean. more

Great Facility With Nice Clientele 6/12/2007

Top notch equipment, staff, amenities. Very motivational place as the majority of members are in great shape.\r Good for celebrity spotting as well. more

Worth the $$$ 11/5/2006

After being skeptical about paying the steep fees to belong to this gym, I finally broke down and did it. After being a member for about 6 months, it is definitely money well spent! The trainers are great, facilities are clear, and the staff is very helpful. Compared to other gyms in the area, this one is by far the least crowded. Pros: Clean, Convenient Location, Great Trainers Cons: Steep Dues more

Equinox is for the serious only! 9/13/2006

Equinox on sunset and in santa monica is an upscale and very professional environment for getting in shape. There are countless reviews from people who nag or say that someone is rude. Its all rediculous...this place is to show up, with or without a friend, work out, get healthy, and enjoy some classes, maybe try yoga, and go home and live your life. It's not a social scene where everyone has to be nice, or pretty, or built, or ugly...it's a gym. A really clean one too. If you want to be pampered and told your beautiful, go to a salon. If your serious about changing your life, and living healthy, then equinox is a place that can inspire you to stay focused on your goals. Pros: High energy, great music, fit people to drive your goal Cons: a little bit pricier, and high traffic times after work more

Rude Front Desk 6/6/2006

I went to the Santa Monica Equinox on a guest pass because I was thinking about joining. I was treated like a thief and criminal because the salesperson had not given the proper guest pass with a barcode. Terrible experience. I guess I will be joining Sports Club LA where I received excellent treatment from everyone I met. Pros: Location Cons: Staff more

Work out next to B-list celebs. if you dare... 5/27/2006

Be in shape (young or lots of surgery) if you go here; almost everyone is. Lots of familiar faces from TV doing push-ups. Models. Lots of collagen. Best things: the location on Sunset Strip, parking, clean, free towels, shampoo, razors, conditioner, etc. Lots of windows, light, airy. Smells great. Did I say cute members? Great classes. Nick's class is one of the best. The worst things: Need more varied weight equipment, it's popular and crowded, no sauna, tiny steam room. People check each other out;not a good place to be if you are having a bad hair day. Front desk tends to be a bit rude. They guard the sign up sheet for spinning like it's a secret plan...that irks me. I constantly feel the need to look fabulous and wear new oufits to this gym.You may run into more b-list celebs than an LA nightclub. Pros: Clean, Good Parking, Great Classes Cons: Crowded, Expensive, Rude Desk People more

Front desk girl was rude. 5/11/2006

The gym is very upscale, everyone is practically in great shape so it will motivate you in wanting to look good as well. Too bad the staff is rude. I was a guess there. They should of been nicer to me, I would have most likely sign up. Pros: Machinary, spaceous, clean Cons: rude staff, over priced more
