I recently dined at Sorrento and thought the restaurant had the best of the best to offer. The best fresh bread, best scallops and the best desserts! I love sitting in the main dinning room, while the pianist played some well-known song that we loved to listen to. The service was great and I can?t wait to go back and have another amazing night at Sorrento! more

Hands down the best italian restaurant in Houston. Everyone there is in such a great mood that it creates a wonderful atmosphere. The appetizers, main dish and the desert are all amazing, don't get me started on the bread basket. The restaurant had the best bread, best risotto, the best sea scallops in Houston. I dined at the restaurant for my past birthday with my family and to end the night they brought a chocolate desert toped with a candle while the pianist played Happy Birthday for me. Can't wait to go back soon! more

I absolutely love this restaurant!!! I came in once with my parents and another time with two of my friends for one of their birthday. Everyone is so sweet and you are greeted so warmly by all of the staff. My favorite part about dining here is when they come out with the bread basket - they have the most and BEST bread selection out of any restaurant I've been to. And they're food....delicious. My favorite is the grilled salmon and lobster risotto. My family is from Italy and I will say that Sorrento has the best risotto in Houston. The service was also outstanding. They were very generous and were very ""on top of things"". The owner also come to our table and thanked us for dining there, which made me feel very welcomed. The desserts is a whole other story. Compared to my grandmother's famous recipe, the bread pudding is fa-nominal and definitely the BEST I've ever had. Also on my friends birthday dinner, they came out with a chocolate dessert with a beautiful presentation including a candle. The pianist also played ""Happy Birthday"", which was a nice touch. Overall, I really enjoyed this restaurant. The hostesses are very sweet and the service is the best in Houston. This Italian restaurant will forever be my favorite place to come enjoy a nice meal, whether it's with family, my girlfriends, a date, or even a coworker. I will definitely be a returning customer and recommend it to anyone who wants to experience the best Italian restaurant in Houston!! more

If you are looking for the best restaurant in Houston for perfectly prepared, deliciously creative Italian food, Sorrento is the place. The service was impeccable, the restaurant itself beautifully decorated and arranged, creating the perfect atmosphere for a romantic evening. There are several charming areas for larger private dining, such as the wine room or a gorgeous atrium. They also provide an intimate setting for birthdays, anniversaries, or a Saturday evening out with some one special. I took my girlfriend and we fell in love with the place. Our waiter was more than helpful in providing wonderful recommendations. He helped us pick a very nice bottle of Cabernet from a diverse and well priced wine list. The burrata salad with heirloom tomatoes was delicious and light, as well as the wild mushroom risotto with black truffle, which is steeped in a parmesan wheel and served tableside! The veal chop was cooked just right, juicy and full of flavor. We finished our meal with the best bread pudding I've ever tasted. We will definitely be back soon! more

Best italian in Houston. Very romantic atmosphere and the excellent wait staff just made the dinner with my boyfriend memorable. Great wine selection. Love love love the bread basket and garlic. I had the lasagna...best ever! My boyfriend had the scallops and arugula risotto and claims it's the best he has ever had. Just all around an amazing experience. Ten stars!!! more

Zero Stars. Avoid at All Costs. 12/5/2011

What an incredible disappointment. My girlfriend and I dined at Sorrento on Friday, 12/2/11 at 7:30 pm. We waited 45 minutes for a table WITH reservations and were ultimately seated adjacent to a restroom (the hostess advised us that no other tables were available). Our appetizer, the beef carpaccio (which does not require oven preparation), took 30 minutes to arrive. Even after we had been seated and ordered entrees, the restaurant took an additional 45 minutes to serve our table. Portion sizes were LAUGHABLY small. Prices were extraordinarily high relative to significantly higher-end, well-established Houston restaurants. I had ordered an off-menu entree, which our server neglected to mention cost almost $20 more than the restaurant's highest-priced menu entree until I received the bill. The noise level made dinnertime conversation difficult at best. We attempted to address our concerns with the restaurant manager following dinner, who was patronizing, argumentative and completely unapologetic. Zero stars. more

Amazing! 10/10/2011

1st time , went for our anniversary dinner - PERFECT Choice! Bar was acceptional, The food was unbelievable -Fresh Mozzerella, Wild Salmon w/ Lobster Risotto, Double Chocolate Cake with Moscato Praline Sauce and Vanilla Ice Cream ~ just the Ice cream alone was worth it!, & finished w/ Lemoncello made in house ~ an incredible end. We took all of our server's suggestions, Anthony was fabulous! Thank you so much Sorrento's for an unforgettable evening! more

Good food, but not same about the service 10/2/2011

We went there for dinner, after reading all the nice reviews. Main points: -Have to valet park due to limited space. That didn't bothered us. -The host greeted us with a nice smile. We had reservatinos (recommended). - We waited at the bar, and the bar tender did not acknowledge of our presence, even though there were only two more couples sitting, he didnt even look at us. - We had a similar experience with our waiter who simply didn't smile, and didnt bring us the menu for about 10 minutes. I told him with a smile that the food was good, and he didnt even move a muscle on his face. -The food was good, well presented nice flavors, and a good list of wines. Even though the food was good I am giving them only 2 stars because the service does not deserve more and service is very important. We left the place feeling disapointed. more

Excellent Fine Dining 8/27/2011

We were visiting Houston and wanted to go to a nice restaurant near downtown. Sorrento came up in our web search as an excellent choice for Italian food. We were able to make our reservations on the web, get quick directions and we were off for our night out. We drove directly to the restaurant, and the experience began. We were greeted by valet parking, and entered the restaurant a few minutes before our reservation. We were seated at the bar while our table was prepared, and I immediately notice the large variety of wines available. Our service was excellent, the food was wonderful, the choice of wines was far greater than typical. My wife and I shared a salad, a pasta first plate, followed by our main dishes. The selections were cooked to perfection. Our waiter was more than attentive, actually very professional and polite, as were all the people. We were checked on by the owner of the restaurant, and finished with polite conversation. A truly excellent dinning experiance. I can guarantee an excellent night out for anyone. Don't hesitate to go... more

Romance 2/14/2011

Probably one of the most romantic and enjoyable dining experiences of my life. The service was impeccable and the dining was not rushed, we enjoyed an hour and half meal. The food? incredible, tasty without being over seasoned and the portions were adequate without being over abundant as most Houston restaurants feel they have to do. more

Enjoyable 12/6/2010

Pros: Can you saw awesome. The food was very tasty! Cons: There is no parking. However, this is expected for restaurants in this area. more

WOW Glad we went 1/31/2010

We stopped in on a Sunday at three'an odd time. This was my first time here as My husband just had a buisness lunch there and was saying how he had the best Minstone soup. and he's Itaiian! As soon as we walked in they treated us like we were arriving at dinner time. Just excellent service. I loved all of the choices, from brunch Items to full course dinners. As soon as we sat down the largest broiled garlic was sent out seasond to perfection it was spread on the basket of home made bread's like butter. I have never had one so good world wide-really. Its a shame all restruants dont do this. I had the lobster bisque and my husband had the traditional Italian soup. which was one of the best in town. I had the duck entree and he had the stuffed pasta raviollies. you could taste the layers of everything fresh and homemade. I appriciate that they make there own pasta. The sauces were to die for. no cisco food here. Raul and our waiter Sergio are one of Houston's best waiters. they get it as far as fine dinning service goes. Ask for them. We have not tried anyone eles yet ,so I am sure they are all wonderful. I am used to fine dining world wide and will frequent this restraunt now for the wonderful food but also the waitstaff. I like how you could also eat there often for lunch, brunch or dinner and have very different menues. so not to get board with the same thing. There were so many things I wanted to try. I had the suflee' for desert. very very good cooked perfeclty. They also hada ten dollar all you can drink cocktails- three to choose, for brunch, so I cant wait to have brunch parties again. There brunch food started at ten or so you can spend a little or have the 35 dollar three course like we did on that wonderful spare of the moment sunday. I am so glad we did. Bravo I put it as one of my Favorite in Houston, It is just a shame I did not know of it's existence sooner. I will be telling every client that comes in my hair salon to try it. Just perfectly wonderful. This is a lovely spot for a wedding rehursal dinner or anniversery party. The owner seems like he would be accomidating for any event. I felt like I was out of houston and eating in Europe. I also appriciated the table settings the restraunt uses. I cant stand bad plates, light silver and bad glasses, not her everything is so interesting to hold and look at even the Iced tea glass was pretty differetnt. You know it's good when 4 hours latter you still have a wonderful taste in your mouth. Pros: best hidden gem love the variety of the menue Cons: absolutly none! more

Excellent Italian Restaurant 1/12/2010

I frequent Sorrento and is always my favorite place for spaghetti and meatballs. Homemade bread and past as well. It's consistently very good and the staff is friendly and helpful. I had New Year's Eve dinner here with some friends and we all enjoyed the evening- probably the best meal I've had there yet! Pros: Fresh bread and pasta more

Best italian food in all of Houston 11/3/2009

As owner of HoustonRestaurants dot com I dine out frequently and when I do not have a new place to try, I spend my time at Sorrento Ristorante on Westheimer sampling their fine food and excellent wines. I have know Abbas for 20 years and he always delivers. His staff is very attentive and makes you feel like family. I have very few ""Favorite Italian Restaurants"" and this is one of the best. You have to try the Sea Bass and the lamb! Pros: Fine dining, great wine, excellent food Cons: need more locations in Houston! more

Pleasantly Peaceful 10/28/2009

As soon as we walked in the door we were greeted by a pleasent valet parking staff and the host at the door was very professional and accomadating. The food took a little longer than expected but our waiter was very professional and apologized because our food had been ordered after a larger party which is why it took so long. Other than that the environment and service were wonderful and I will certainly be visiting again. Pros: Great food, good wine selection, and quiet atmosphere Cons: smaller restaurant more

A Disappointing Anniversary 8/14/2009

We went to Sorrento for our 10th Wedding Anniversary. But the night was pretty disappointing. The foie gras was bitter, and the toast it sat on had been burned (literally black in parts). The calamari was mediocre, but nothing special. My husband's lobster bisque was great. But my butternut squash soup was really bland and very very thin -- almost watery. I had to ask for a salt shaker because it wasn't properly seasoned. Our entrees were okay (a snapper special and the filet/lobster) but for $36 each, I was expecting something that made me say ""wow"" -- and I just thought, ""this is okay -- good, but not great."" Finally, we had a chocolate souffle for desert. Again, good but not great (and slightly overcooked). To add insult to injury, the table next to us was celebrating their 11th anniversary. For some reason, they were brought a desert ""on the house"" and a big deal was made. Our desert was brought with a candle (they knew it was our anniversary) but not comped. Pros: free parking if you get there early; live piano Cons: bad food; not great service; not good for special occasion more
