Sokolowski's University Inn

We visited Sokolowski's for the first time today. We were impressed with the food and portion size received. However I noticed the owner (I think) yelling at employees in front of customers. Highly unprofessional! When I went to ask a question about my bill at the end of our meal (after it had already been paid for, I wasn't trying to get out of anything) I was yelled at and belittled in front of an entire line of customers. When I asked him not to be so rude I was again yelled at. I tried calling when we got home to voice my concerns. All I was looking for was an apology. Instead I was hung up on! TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! I cannot stress this enough. We were considering taking my mom there with the entire family (12 or more of us in all) for her birthday. That's definitely NOT happening. In fact, we won't be returning anytime soon. The way you treat people DOES make a difference! more

Food is always great and large portions, be ready to take a nap afterwards. Don't pay attention to someones review that can't even spell pierogi. more

Great food. Great atmosphere. Try the rice pudding. So good. So are the pierogies, mushroom barley soup, and stuffed cabbage. more

Been going here a long time and highly recommend! This is definately in my top 5 of places to eat! HUGE PORTIONS, I don't know what kind of lard butt carnie777 is but I can almost never clean my plate! I have eaten at many restaurants in North America and would have to say that Sokolowski's is at or near the top. i have to wholeheartedly disagree with carnie 777 on his or her review. To say that the portions are small or the pricing is high is ludicris. Smoked kielbasa is a sausage that can only be prepared by steam cooking it or by bringing it to a boil in water. How else to you prepare Smoked Kielbasa? You can't fry it or the skin will toughen. Their pierogi's are award winning. The atmosphere can't be beat and the owners are the best. Don't let one review by someone who was having a bad day stir you in the wrong direction about Sokolowski's. Oh did I mention they are in their 86th year in business. i guess they have to be doing something right to survive in one of the toughest businesses to be in. After seein this place on a travel channel show, I was dying to go. Wow, was I wrong! The keilbasa is boiled and didn't even remind me of keilbasa, the peirogie were literally floating in a thick layer of fat and grease, and the macaroni and cheese tasted like it was from a frozen box!! The portion was not that large, and it was $10!! Who are these people that really think this place is that great? Go to the market instead and get some unique lunch there for the same price... This is not a place you're likely to just wander by accidentally. I walked from the Ohio City RTA station. Not a bad strategy since I felt I needed to walk off some of the caloric intake afterwards. Know that going in. This is not health food. It's not fancy. It's not romantic. It's just really good, affordable stick to the ribs kind of food. I was looking for brats and pierogies, and that's what I got...for a little bit more than I would've paid for fast food. Pros: good value comfort food Cons: funky location more
