sizzling chicken!!! 3/2/2009

delicious sizzling chicken. Have been there at least 15 times and always happy. I live in new York and only get to visit Tampa once or twice a month but always pleased when I go here. more

Great Thai... 7/25/2008

I love Royal Thai Palace and I absolutely crave it sometimes. I think the portion sizes are adequate and the pricing is fine for menu items. I do think the over charges for sharing and exchanges is ridiculous, but it won't keep me away. The amazing chicken is really tasty and the nam sod is the best I've ever had. We also really enjoy the pad Thai, mee krob and most of the curries. The crab rangoon is not the best. Weekend evenings can be really crowded making it difficult to even get takeout.\r \r Pros: Service Cons: Parking more

Small portions, bad food 6/8/2008

Just went her with my girlfriend on Friday, we got takeout. Portions were dilibriutly small, even the rice continer was half full!! I got chicken pad thai, and my girlfriend got sweet and sour chicken, and a small bowl of soup-36 dollars. We had to stop at a chinese resaurant on the way home to get more food!!! And to boot, the food was very bland and the vegatables were not fresh what so ever. This place the worst, and I not recommend goint there. They clearly only care about the bottom line, and not the customer. It is very hard to find good Thai in Tampa, and this place is no exception. DO NOT GO more

Not going back from A Thai food Fan 12/25/2007

This used to be my favorite Thai restaurant until more Thai restaurants started opening in Tampa and I realized what a bad value this particular one is. i wish the owners would read some of the reviews posted here and realize how they are perceived in the community- CHEAP! . Besides charging more for sharing, extra sauce, substituting one vegetable for another, and anything else they can think of the portions are VERY small. A glass of wine comes filled at about one third, and this is not ""fine wine.""\r Parking is difficult, also.\r Try one of the Thai restaurants on Gandy Blvd, or Kennedy for Thai food just as tasty, with bigger portions, lower prices and more accomodating service. more

Awesome Crispy Duck 9/10/2007

We walked by and decided to go in. The seating was prompt... but the service was NOT!!! We waited a while for our order to be taken, but after that... everything came quickly enough. The Royal Palace Duck was delicious. We shared an entree and the large appetizer. This is easily do-able for two people... we still had food left over. $30 for dinner. Great location. Pros: Delicious Food Cons: Slow Service more

not reccommended... 6/12/2007

This place is terrible.\r Food is overpriced and small portions. \r They always charge me for extra for everything.\r I don't like to service there. I ver know that the owners shares tips with server too\r PArking is bad.\r the food tastes so bad when eating it. \r Comparing to other places i have experieced,I wouldn't want to go back again, bad time there... Cons: taste horrible.. more

Bland food, overpriced 4/24/2007

I've tried Pad Thai at most of the Thai restaurants in Tampa, and this is the worst I've tasted. There is no flavor in the dish at all! Like another reviewer wrote, it left a bad taste in my mouth as well. Definitely overpriced for the amount of food they give you. I've not tried any other dishes here, so I will not completely write them off, but at this point I am far from impressed, especially considering the many other Thai restaurants in the downtown area that serve good food at a great value. Pros: quick take out Cons: bland food, overpriced, small portions more

Bland, Overpriced, Extra Charges for Sharing Entrees and Coke Refills 1/28/2007

OK, last review I accidentally ranked this place average. Should have been ""Not Recommended!"" You know a restaurant is in trouble when they have a $2 charge for sharing entrees and charge for refills on Coke products! We didn't order an entree, because I was afraid if my child had a bite I was going to get the extra charge. This is the most bland tasting food I've eaten and that is all food, not just Thai. Fired rice had no flavor, won ton soup had no flavor, steamed dumplings were missing half of the dough cover and were also very bland. The atmosphere is nice, but there is nothing ruder than reading a menu with extra charges for sharing, when prices are sky high to begin with. I told my server that the rice at a medium hot was too hot to eat. All I got from her was ""sorry"". Overall, the worst dining experiences I have had in Tampa, bar none. Pros: Nice Atmosphere Cons: Bland Food, Overpiced, Charges for Sharing Entrees and Coke Refills! more

Everything Was Great 10/21/2006

This is a great Thai restaurant. Excellent food, spiced just right! Nice atmosphere and the service was perfect too. If you like thai food you should definately try this restaurant. Moderately priced (3 of us ate for $65.00 including tip and we each had a drink) and worth every penny. Pros: Ambience, Service, Indoor and Outdoor Seating Cons: Parking more

Terrible 7/22/2006

I have probably been to 20-25 Thai restaurants in different parts of the country. This one is tied for the worst. \r \r I am a huge fan of Pad Thai, so it is usually the first dish I try. The Pad Thai here is terrible! The aftertaste was unbearable. Without a doubt the worst Pad Thai I have ever had.\r \r I read a bunch of great reviews for this place before going and I was excited, but I came away very dissapointed. The dinner portion was also *very small* for the price. \r \r Needless to say, I won't be going back to try any other dishes. My advice, stay away. Pros: Service was good. Cons: Food was terrible, worst Pad Thai I have ever had. more

Great Place for Thai Food 6/22/2006

New to town my wife had the cravings for Thai Food so based on City search I took her to this restaurant. New to town I was not sure how to get to their restaurant they gave us prompted direction to their restaurant and we were there without getting lost. Once arrived at the restaurant they promptly seated us, since it was a nice weather outside I asked them if we could seat outside and they right away cleaned un used table and seated us outside. Fast service with food and great food. It was good food for wife and not too expensive for my wallet for the nice environment you would receive at Royal Palace. Pros: Good food and not too expensive more

Best Thai food in Tampa 6/12/2006

Being a recent transplant to the Bay area I found this to be like the Thai food that I'm used to: flawlessly seasoned, fresh vegetables and large selection of options. If you're an epicurist Royal Thai will not disappoint. Worth every penny and there is very little competition in Tampa. Although it's pricier than the competition, the flavorful food experience more than makes up for it. more

Easily one of the best in Florida 1/17/2006

The menu is quite accomplished and definitely deserving of praise, considering their dishes are proudly traditional and closer to true Thai cuisine, than a lot of the other Americanized fare served around Tampa. Having actually been to Thailand, I will attest this is one of the best Ive had in the states. The Panang curry & lobster was rated one of the best in the nation by Zagats. The atmosphere is by far above average with its elegant, all wood interior and Asian influenced architecture. Dining on the open-air patio during the evening is a must. Start with Thom Car soup with real galangas and fresh lemongrass. Id recommend any Panang or red curry dish with Sing Ha beer. Their Pad See Yew is fantastic as well. Located on S. Howard in Hyde Park, well within walking distance of Starbucks and other shops for an after dinner stroll. more

Excellent Thai 11/4/2005

My husband I and eat here frequently. It's our favorite take-out, although the atmosphere is very nice if you're in the mood for a night out. We love the curries. I think they have the best pad thai around. Service is excellent. It's very professionally run; the owner is almost always on site and she's a really great person. Pros: Excellent food, Great Service, Very nice atmosphere Cons: Small portions, Limited Parking more

Excellent 2/22/2005

I bring out of town guest here and my new date. Excellent food, great prices right in Hyde Park. The place is nice and rarely empty. On a nice evening, you can sit outside. Pros: great food, Inexpensive, near bars Cons: Parking more

Fast Service, Overpriced 3/24/2004

The service was great, food was out fast, have to pay for basic drink refills, and the food is overpriced compared to the amount of food. more

Best in USA 2/28/2003

Me and my wife ate 300 times in this restaurant. more

More Shrimp Than I Could Eat 12/16/2002

Both the Pad Thai and that evenings special shrimp dish were prepared perfectly. Wonderful sauces, soups and appetizers as well. We will return! Pros: great atmosphere, fresh ingredients, flavorful sauces Cons: parking tight more

spiced right! 10/31/2002

Between the great decor and wonderful scents in the air, they manage to give each customer food tailored to their taste. Ordering spiciness at ROyal Thai is mor than mild or hot, you can chose between four or five levels of spice. A bit pricy but great food and service! Pros: crowded on weekends more
