Sky Bar

I was just checking the various "Hot Hot Hot" posts, which are always suspect... it's funny, Skybar creates these fake usernames to say how "hot" their own bar is while bashing other bars. If you click on the names of the posters to see their post history, there are only two posts; one hyping Skybar, the other bashing another bar - that's it. Skybar is a joke, it really is. It's their last grasp as trying to stay in the "hip" loop. Anyway, the best bars are now in Hollywood, not on the Strip. Pros: Nobody inside; Plenty of open space and arm room, almost 100% female once inside Cons: If you are a female looking for a guy, this is not the place. The only guys in there are tools. The other obvious 'con' is the disgruntled doormen. more

This place is great for people watchers like myself and my girlfriends. A great plus is there's no cover charge, but when the bouncer(s) ask if you have a reservation or a room, think fast! I've mentioned we were w/ a party that is staying at the hotel or for a bachelorette party. As long as you look good and/or act like you've been part of the Hollywood scene since you could last remember, you'll have no problems getting in. We've seen celebrities there and the view is fabulous as well as the service! However, the drinks are pricey and they seem diluted when you order from the waitress. You're better off getting drinks straight from the bar. One downside to this place is there are more men then women and it would be nice to see at least more men in the late 20's to early 30's age group. Hello everyone. I unfortunately made the dreadful decision of celebrating my 32nd birthday here. After almost 2 1/2 weeks of planning, making reservations, sending an evite with 26 RSVP's...I was slammed with dismay of how I was treated. Please read my cancellation request ... To whom it may conern, I am very sorry to have to cancel my reservation for 04/21/07.Due to the miscommunication of your staff member (...) - I am very displeased with the overall service of your establishment. It is completely unacceptable that you have certain people that are meant to represent you in a positive way, yet treat those who are not in the industry entirely insubstantial. Although this behavior may be acceptable in this business...it is not good business. I feel very "burned" by this whole experience and I hope that in the future - the clients who do try to "step it up" every once in awhile...don't get stepped on. The above embodies my feelings about the whole situation. It is truly unfortunate how "society" treats our society...and it goes to prove that although you can spend all the money in the world to build a luxury hotel you can't buy class. more

A regular for 2 years. I absolutely love the place. Everything about it is fun. If your a guy and want to shell out money for drinks, you arrive early before 8PM and wait for 2 hours until the club gets hot. When it gets busy, it gets so busy. It has a magnificent view, and the waitresses do the best they can given how busy it gets. It feels like a high school party as it is outdoors. It's the closest thing you can get to a miami party in LA. It's not really fully of all the celebs like at other clubs, but there's a good group there more

Cool to hang at the pool in the summer if you don't mind $18 club sandwiches and $8 heineys. Great views in the evening and could be a good spot to get one of the tables on the back wall with a date for a quiet drink on a weeknight early. Avoid this place on weekend nights. It represents everything that is wrong with all the entertainment people and spongers. The doormen are so lame and they have to know what loosers theyare because they treat people like garbage...ugh! Avoid this place like the plague at wkends. The door 'service', or should I say 'serious lack thereof', is a total JOKE. My husband and I were told we needed reservations to get in for a drink on a Sat. night, as were another well-dressed couple who were trying to get in just ahead of us. We were totally appalled as this is the first time we had ever received this kind of b.s., so we just laughed and left immediately. What made it all the more aggravating was when we spotted the 5 skanky girls who seemed to be hovering around the door as if they were just about to be let in by the fools guarding the door. Good food but not favorable towards women. This is a place that seems to enjoy the company of men over women and it shows if the service. We felt like intruders on an all boys club. Then we wondered if the food was edible for us. Hmmm. Well, it tasted good any way. I just wouldn't go there again because of the obvious bias in service. Pros: If you're a man it's great. If not, go when there aren't any men or they've already been served. Cons: My girlfriend and I felt invisible. I hope things have changed since then, but we won't be back. more

My fiance and I had gone to this bar for my birthday. A nicely dressed couple in front of us could not get in, although right behind them, we were able to enter right away. It was our first time attending Skybar and we had a BLAST! The service was exceptionally well, everyone was very friendly. The atmosphere was beautiful, everything was decorated glamorously. To make our time there even more delightful, we met another couple that enjoyed the bar as much as we did. We WILL be going back positively. So I stayed at The Mondrian and fell in love w/ Sky Bar. There were huge beds and white candles everywhere.. it kinda reminded me of Nikki's Beach in Miami and Cabo. Sure, drinks were expensive but I think it comes w/ the territory, so whatever. I love the scene esp. cuz although we went on a weekend it wasn't terribly packed...I'm used to that in SF... my friends and I were able to lounge around the pool, flirt w/ cute boys and still hear each other over the crowd. The view is gorgeous at nite. cuz it's an open space w/ huge glass windows so everyone has a view of the city lites. Very pretty. Pros: Sexy, not packed, view Cons: drinks $$ more

i just went to the sky bar last weekend due to all the hype that i have heard, the view is fantastic, but the crowd is a bit uptight and the drinks are way to much, we bought 4 drinks total, the bill was about $55. the sofa couches were nice, good to layout on, lots of candles everywhere. The bouncer tells some people (as it seemed, unattractive people) that you need reservations to get in. As my girlfriend and I approached the bouncer we were told to wait for a minute while they deny the ladies ahead of us. We were flattered to say the least, especially when we caught a glimps of the "reservation book" which contained nothing but a cross word puzzle. The venue is hott, the crowd is stuffy and the drinks are overprised, but if you are in need of an ego boost, look your best, and get past the red rope! As 2 men and 2 women at 11:30 on a Saturday night, I expected it to be difficult to get in after reading reviews... bouncer looked us over once and let us right in. The bar itself is beautiful and the service was good, but the crowd was absolutely monotonous. Everyone there was either drunk or stuck-up, truly no fun at all. Let me start off by saying that for those of you who work for a living, like myself, this is not the place for us. But, we should do it anyway once before dying. This place is as "Hollywood" as Hollywood can be. It's very pretentious, posh, pretty, pricey, populated and pretentious... Came on a Friday nite for my girlfriend's bday party. Got on the guest list for our party of about 10. Just had drinks. Bouncer was ok, quite polite actually. Servers were also pretty nice, considering the other reviews I had read. The view is great, the decor is awesome, the people watching is excellent and drinks are VERY expensive. I like to pretend like I can afford to drink Moet every so often. This is a great looking place with an awesome view of L.A. The service was much better than one would expect in a bar with such a reputation for being snooty. The waitresses were actually very nice and accomodating. The guy at the door was also totally cool about letting our group in at about 10:00-ish on a Friday and we had 4 guys and just 2 girls (though one of the girls in our group was a fairly well known entertainer). The only drawback of Sky Bar is that it really was not super crowded on a Friday and there were not that many intertesting people to talk to. If I spend 15 bucks per drink there had better be someone interesting to distract me from that expense. And there were not many hotties either for that matter. Worth a visit just to check the view. I am a girl and I have never had a tough time getting in there, but honestly it is overrated. Save your money and go somewhere with a better atmosphere and better drinks. I was dissapointed with how crowded it was and how rude the bartenders were. Every experience there is a bad one, and after this weekend, I've finally decided to get over it - it isn't the Hollywood hot scene anymore. This place fell off the cool list years ago. Servers and staff are cute and well dressed but their service sucks. I went early on a friday night and had to ask to be served after the waitress ignored us for 20 minutes straight! It was a Monday night and I had no problem getting in at all. The atmosphere was nice but the view wasn't that stunning. The Skybar is overrated for sure. more
