Very Very Very Worst Food and Hazardous to Health 1/28/2012

Food very very very bad, hazardous to health eating soda is added to food, wont be able to eat. When ordered separate Chicken Biryani got a bowl which is made up of white rice mixed with chicken curry present in buffet section, little color, corriander, and sprinkles of masala thats it. Staff is bad at serving. more

RUDE STAFF AND FOOD IS BELOW AVERAGE 11/30/2011

If you believe anyone of the 44-45 reviews that is here believe this one. I am a certified Indian food fanatic. I eat Indian food at least 4 days each week. All of the Indian resturants in town know me by name or at least by face so suffice ti to say I know a little bit about Indian food to say the least. This place is not all that great. I guess it is better than nothing if you are desperate and simply must get your hands on some Indian food but it is FAR, FAR from being the best. The food just isn't seasoned as well as most other places and I have been trying to figure out why the place stays so busy and my conclusion is that it is becuase of sites like this one. First of all it is conveniently located right near downtown and if someone is new to town they are going to visit the first one that pops up on the list and has lots of seemingly positive reviews. I wonder if they pay people to write good reviews because off all the friends of mine that have gone there none have given such gushing reviews and all prefer food from other Indian resturants. So I think they are just popular with people who are new to town and just go with the first name they see or with people who don;t have much experience with Indian food and don;t know the good from the bad. Also they ae very rude at this resturant. I have seen them be very short with customers and have a very condescending take it or leave it air which is very unbecoming in the hospitality industry. I am not here to start a war between resturants with my comments but if you want truly GREAT Indian food my favorite is Bombay Palace on West End. They are really, I mean really niceand the food is PHENOMENAL! That is my personal favorite and friends of mine that are in culinary school are also obsessed with Bombay Palace not Bombay Grill that is a totally separate and not so great place. But If you are one of those people who never heeds the warning then go ahead and try Sitar for yourself and I am most certain you will not come away with the feeling that you just had a great experience But if you have time and money to waste suit yourself. I'll see you at Bombay Palace, The Woodlands, Shalimar or anywhere else except this unwelcomig, substandard food serving place. more

Decent Side of Mediocre 4/1/2011

Sitar's buffet is tasty for the price, don't get me wrong. But as others have noted, it feels a little like you're eating leftovers. The food isn't really authentic, the spices are fairly generic and bland, and everything seems a bit watered down. It's not bad--it's just not as flavorful and fresh as it could be if they expended a little more effort. As with every Indian restaurant we've tried in Nashville, they use too much oil in their dishes. But it's the only Indian place in reasonable walking distance from Vanderbilt, and the price (around $9) isn't too shabby. For a bit more money you can get significantly better Indian food at Bombay Palace on West End, but by the relatively low standards of the 21st/West End area this place isn't bad. more

Merits out weigh demerits 1/18/2011

The food here is great. I strongly recommend the chicken tikka masala and the naan is to die for!!! They have their own parking and a hookah bar next door. As for the matter of the owner. He is a great man and watt he does in his personal life is none of our business thank you Jason. more

BEWARE OF OWNERS/MGR 1/16/2011

DO NOT EAT HERE, OWNERS are Theives and will take your money....THEY GOT SERIOUS PROBLEMS more

RUDE RUDE RUDE OWNER AND STAFF!!!!! 1/13/2011

Their food is mediocre and would probably TASTE better, if you didn't feel like you were a ""burden"" just being there. It is ridiculous that you feel so invisible, when you are paying a pretty penny! Very rude, non-friendly, waste of money, really. Try Shalimar in Green Hills....YUMMY and nice people! Also, it is cheaper to go to Trader Joe's, buy some frozen indian food and heat it up! Wow...you would think you were getting expensive upscale Indian food! more

THERE'S A REASON SITAR WINS EVERY POLL EVERY YEAR: 10/24/2010

Because it's the best indian food in Nashville, that's why. Not only in my opinion, but the opinions of Nashville periodicals who make these kinds of judgements every day. They know what they're talking about. I, for one, have never had bad service, or even mediocre service, it's always ALWAYS been utterly stellar. Maybe it's because I treat the staff like human beings, go figure, and they're glad to see me, remember me by name, remind me when I forget to order Garlic Naan... I've tried 3 other Indian places and they're all a joke compared to SITAR. more

I'm sitting here in the restaurant right now and WOW, was the food amazing!!! My wife and I are visiting Nashville for only one day and we are so happy to have found this place. Plenty of space, very busy, lots of variety, incredible food. A must taste while you're in town. Try a Mango Lassi! more

Example: great place for good bread 4/7/2009

Visiting Nashville for a day after 12 years of living in Chicago (we used to live in Nashville)we decided to visit Sitar which we had gone to once in our life before. The usher had no smiles for us when came in. After sitting down and after being served the standard appetizer we asked the usher who was passing by if he knew a particular address and he said with a rude ""No""; upon which I asked him for the white pages to which he said RUDELY we don't have any. I asked him again that he did not have a phone book and he begrudingly said the had yellow pages in front and gave us venomous stares. We sat there steaming for a few mins and then walked out. SAME AS THE OTHER REVIEWERS....SERVICE IS HORRIBLE AND PARKING LOT POSTAGE SIZE Cons: horrible ,postage stamp size parking lot more

OK. Some good menu items, some not. 10/28/2008

The Chicken Tandoori is special because of the flavor...charcoal. No other Indian restaurants in town that I know of use charcoal to cook their Tandoori. The cuts of chicken seem a bit sub-standard though. Not the best quality chicken or cuts. Other food there is ok. The relishes are great. A constant irritant is the phone, which is set to ring loud, and it rings often. It is such an irritant that customers often stop talking and take notice when it happens. You can almost feel the atmosphere vaporize from the room everytime the phone rings, and it often rings on and on before answered. What are they thinking? Such a simple thing to fix. The waiters need to learn that Americans (especially in the south) prefer a friendlier approach. The wait staff seems genuinely unhappy and unappreciative. The convenient location make it an easy place to drop in. Pros: Tandoori cooked with charcoal Cons: Loud phone rings constantly. Unfriendly waiters more

Not a nice experience 10/28/2008

I would never recomend this place to anyone who wants to try out Indian cusine. My friends and I had a bad experience. The service was bad, seems like the staff there didnt want anyone coming in. Three out of the five of us who ate there ended up having stomach upsets. The food tasted like left overs from previous days. Pros: Good location Cons: Food was not at all good more

Worst Food ever 9/21/2008

Never ever, I have had food that tasted so bad. The curries were watery and to top it off we found a dead c--- r---- in our naan. I obviously got food poisioning. When I called them to report the issue, the owner said OKAY. No apologies. I don't recommend this restaurant to anyone. If you do visit. eat at your own risk!!! more

Worst Customer Service 9/4/2008

It one of the worst experience we have, we called them to reserve tables for 15 members. We reach the resturant for lunch buffet at 2:25 PM, they close by 3:00 PM its sunday. By 2:45 itself those guys come and force us to take the food we need from buffet they said they are closing.. We have four kids, exactly at 3:00 they switch off the A/C and fans , we told to switch on the Fans, again after 15 mins they switched off again. more

Only been once, would go again to test if bad experience was just a once off. 8/21/2008

Sitar was an interesting experience. I placed an order for takeout over the phone, and was hung up on before a name was requested. Upon getting to the restaurant and paying for the food, the gruff guy working the till points behind us. I was a bit confused as I'm accustomed to having someone bring me my food directly from the kitchen or the person working the till to reach down and grab the food from a somewhat hidden, temporary, food storage area. Well it turns out he was pointing at our order, which was sitting on the table in the waiting room, next to other random people. When I pay for food, I expect to not need to worry about it possibly having been used as an ash-tray. Pros: Take away order ready quickly Cons: Terrbile service more

Not recommended 7/17/2008

I had my lunch buffet there. The food is lousy and choice is limited. The vegitable biryany is soggy, rice are sticked together, mango yogurt is like jello (not liquid), no fruit, only one vegitable salad, and no desert!!!! more
