Best

Of all the grubhub sushi places in austin, this has, by far, the most quality fish

Worst

Maybe in 2009 the sushi was worthy of a Best of City Search, but not now. It wasn't awful just not that good. Pros: 6.95 lunch special Cons: 6.95 lunch special

I bought a Groupon and tried to use it at Silhouette. When I got there, I was told that I could only use the Groupon in evening time. So my friend and I decided to give a try at lunch. We were very disappointed with the food there. We did not finish it and decided not to go back. more

A Jewel in Downtown 8/21/2011

My husband and I stumbled on Silhouette one evening when we were looking for a quick bite before a show at the Paramount. We now make Silhouette a part of our theatre nights. The service has always been quick, especially for a sushi restaurant. We've been several times and the service varies from adequate to great. Never had any complaints. The atmosphere is great. Very cool and calming. I love the cozy booths! The food is yummy. I travel to Tokyo often for work and I've had some fantastic sushi. The sushi at Silhouette isn't fancy, just straight forward, fresh and satisfying. I was sorry to read reviews that people had some bad experiences. I've always enjoyed Silhouette and plan on going back...soon! Oh, and they do have more than sushi...just check out their dinner combos! P.S. The Monday ""All Day Happy Hour"", Tuesdays ""Ladies' Night"" and the Saturday ""Late Night Happy Hour"" just sweeten the deal! more

Best sushi ever!!! 6/8/2011

I love the atmosphere, friendly waitstaff, the bartenders Trent and Nate ae very attentive and funny, and the sushi is fresh, flavorful and absolutely amazing! There is a huge variety of both cooked and uncooked sushi, and they have a sushi and drink happy hour all day Monday and every day from 5 to 7. I highly recommend the Lychee Martini. more

Worst Sushi I Have Ever Had 7/29/2010

I have been to Silhouette several times over the years. Generally, the sushi was below average but it was close to my work. It had been at least a year since I last stopped by but I decided to give it another shot (I had a sushi craving). It was the worst sushi I have ever had. I ordered the Sushi Combo A, 7 pieces chef's choice nigiri and a california roll. The avocado in the california roll was so ripe it squirted out of the roll as I bit into it. The nigiri included fake crab, the first time I have ever seen fake crab on top of a piece of nigiri. The 2 pieces of white fish had been splashed with some sort of sour liquid (Rice Vinegar?). The taste was overpowering. One of the pieces of white fish was as tough as a well done steak (possibly chemically overcooked by the sour liquid?). The piece of tuna was cut ninety degrees to the grain of the fish. I have never seen a piece of tuna nigiri that even showed the grain. The rice underneath was falling apart, what little there was. Each piece had a round ball of rice underneath. I would highly recommend getting your sushi fix elsewhere. I just hope I don't end up sick from giving this place one more try. I eat sushi on a regular basis and have had everything from the freshest sushi at the Tsukiji fish market in Tokyo (where the majority tuna is sold) to the local HEB. I have never had sushi that looked and tasted as poor as this. Pros: Not sick yet (just ate there) Cons: Food more

Terrible Sushi 3/26/2010

The sushi here is not great by any means. For the price I thought it would be awesome or even just okay...it was not. The rolls were nothing special and they were incredibly small. the fish in all of my rolls was almost non existing. The atmosphere was okay, pretty desolate though. I will never go back. more

A Hidden Jewel in the Open... 1/11/2009

My wife and I have driven by this place many times and never knew it was there. We were walking downtown and stumbled on to it and decided to check it out. The restaurant is small and narrow in the front with tables for two, and towards the back opens up for tables with 4 or more guests. It has a very chill eclectic vibe to it but not too trendy. We sampled their baked mussel clams (very good; ask for the spicy version), seaweed salad, and miso soup - all good. I had the 15 piece sashim combo and my wife had the Spicy Tekka Don (spicy sashimi tuna over rice) and split an order of spicy tuna roll. The Spicy Tekka Don was fantastic and very filling - we were very surprised by the portion (enough for two). The sashimi combo was good but not the best Ive had (Musashino). The spicy tuna roll was bland after having the tekka don. Overall the experience was great. The wait staff was prompt and courteous. We have been back since and really enjoy. I would recommend this place for a casual first date or dinner with friends. Its a place where you want to go and enjoy the company you are with. Pros: Cool little place, great vibe and friendly staff Cons: Not the best sashimi but good, street parking more

Editorial review from GrubHub 8/8/2008

Silhouette is a simple go-to when we have an everyday-sushi craving and don't feel like springing for Uchiko. It's great grubhub delivers from them, so we decided to try it at home. The sushi from Silhouette is neither impressive nor unimpressive - just basic and can sometimes be quite satisfying. Our order was missing one roll, and instead we got a salad with a TON of greens and some pieces of pretty good, fresh salmon with a sweet ginger dressing. Not what we were expecting to get, but not bad either for around $30 for two people. more

So So 4/21/2008

Service has been lackluster, but it depends on which waitress you receive. One seemed absolutely clueless and provided the poorest service I have ever seen, but the waitress with glasses was prompt and knowledgeable. She took orders quickly and brought food in a short amount of time. The sushi itself is generally served warm, which is not very good. The rice doesn't seem fresh. I also discovered a bone in my salmon role, which is a first for me. The price is nice, especially on Monday happy hours. Not one of the best restaurants in Austin... more

this place 3/27/2008

this place is definitely not for everyone! it's an eclectic atmosphere, and requires a certain kind of attention to be fully appreciated for what it is. from the walls to the people this place is beautiful, however i have been selective about who i invite to join me here for dinner. it's not a suit / tie place. more

Great deals for delicious food! 2/10/2008

I decided to try out Silhouette after hearing from numerous friends that it was great. My boyfriend and I decided to go on a Monday and we were really pleased to find out it was Happy Hour Sushi all night! All of our favorite rolls were on the happy hour menu and we even decided to try some nigiri for the first time ever because it was so cheap. Our server recommended some great fish choices for us and even turned us on to a new sake that we both loved. Both me and my boyfriend really enjoyed the ambiance, service, and, most importantly, the food! I highly recommend Silhouette to anyone looking for an easy going, fun sushi experience. Pros: Helpful servers, great sushi deals, and unique ambiance. Cons: The menus were a little gross and gave a bad first impression. more

great sushi, great service 2/10/2008

As a member of a large business company which frequently treats its employees to dinner, i am quite familiar with the busy Friday nights accompanying all restaurants in the downtown area. furthermore, i am familiar with the less than par service that large parties sometimes receive when the restaurant is full. this was not the case with silhouette. first of all, the atmosphere of silhouette was very warm, and very unique. our eclectic server, Sarah, was very friendly and extremely helpful. she gave us GREAT recommendations on drinks and appetizers and refilled our waters so that i never saw the bottom of my glass a single time. it was obvious that she had several other tables (plus our party of 10) yet she took the time to pay full attention to our questions and requests. we ordered two ""boats"" of sushi and a great deal of rolls and almost all the food came out surprisingly quickly since there are only 2 chefs behind the sushi bar. one of the boats took longer than the rest so the manager compensated by providing the entire table of 10 with a free round of drinks. the fish was sensational. it was incredibly fresh, the presentation was aesthetically pleasing, and i didn't try one single thing that i found to be sub-par. our table had such an enjoyable experience that we applauded our server at the end of our meal. the service was great, the manager was great, and the food was great. what more could you ask for? Pros: great atmosphere, fantastic service, delicious food Cons: i couldn't find any more

UGH 1/16/2008

when i walked in i was ecstatic about the place. the art is so original. i was told to sit at an empty booth and was greeted by my server who seemed clearly overwhelmed with too many tables. after taking our drink order, she returned in a few minutes and asked to take our order. we ordered 2 sushi lunches and an appetizer to start out with.i asked for a spicy sauce for my sushi and some cream and sugar for my tea.i had to finally go up to the bar to ask for cream and sugar, at which point i realized the bartender was eating sushi behind the bar (unsanitary) as he was just watching as the flustered server ran by, not lifting a finger to help. he told me there was no cream in house without even looking, and reluctantly got me a few sugar packets. we received our salads and then our sushi came out. noticing that our appetizer never arrived, i told the gentleman who ran our food that we were missing an appetizer and that we didn't need it after all. My friend then noticed a hair in her wasabi but no server was in sight. I flagged down the manager and told her about the hair, which she then returned with a new plate of wasabi with no apology and didn't offer to remove the wasabi with the hair! The server returned several minutes later with our appetizer and i told her we did not want it after all. she looked at us with disgust and she replied ""um, well, I'm pretty sure my manager will not take this off your bill"". what? i thought an appetizer came before the meal, not several minutes afterward! i would NEVER tell a guest that after they sent food away! she and my friend argued for a bit and then she yelled ""fine!"" at us before she stomped off, never to check on us again. The manager never dropped by and we were presented the check 15 minutes after we finished our meal. I work in a restaurant and am embarrassed to have seen the performance of the staff and this restaurant . furthermore, the sushi was fishy and old and the rice was stale and hard to chew. Pros: cool art, great atmoshphere Cons: service, food, everthing else more
