Con Artists 2/8/2012

Terrible experience, every visit was a sales pitch. I went to Moody Street Dental for two appointments. I had moved to Waltham and missed one 6 month cleaning. They did a thorough job and took X-Rays and pictures. He outlined a plan for my teeth, new fillings, a mouth guard for grinding, possibly Invisalign. If there's one thing you want in a dentist it is trust and you don't want to feel like you're being manipulated and taken advantage of in any way. Unfortunately, this dentist seemed more concerned with bleeding my pocketbook than with practical dental care. Playing off of insecurities, this dentist convinced me to have 5 fillings refilled. My teeth are now more sensitive to cold (a side effect he mentioned afterward) and I'm fairly certain the procedure was unnecessary at this point. Also, at that appointment, I let slip information about my upcoming wedding in July. After the fillings, I expected the dentist to ask me to make the appointments he said I required at our previous visit, instead he wanted me to make an appointment for whitening and a visit with a gum specialist about my wisdom teeth. Seeing a gum specialist about my wisdom teeth didn't make sense, I don't have any on the bottom and the ones on top are impacted. Did he forget this? When I refused the whitening appointment, the receptionist said, ""With the wedding you REALLY SHOULD. I mean you want to look good in the pictures."" Excuse me? My fiance and I think my smile is beautiful and of all our wedding expenses your whitening trays aren't worth a dime of our money. I didn't appreciate the push to make me feel insecure about my wedding day. A few days after the appointment, I got an email from the receptionist, that she had messed up my bill, and the actual cost was $75 over what I had already paid. Not surprised. I know I'm never going back, so I asked for my records. They emailed me my X-Rays only. When I asked about the pictures they had taken to convince me to refill my teeth, she said that she couldn't email them. I work in the software industry, you can print screen and email me the pictures. Anyways she insisted they couldn't and they charged $25 for hard copies of the records. Ridiculous and to make matters even worse she tried to get out of sending me hard copies of the X-Rays she had emailed me. If I'm paying $25, you better send me hard copies of ALL of my records. Don't make me print out the X-Rays with my ink and paper. Overall I don't how they stay in business. Oh wait, I do, by ripping people off. more

Worst Dentist I have Ever seen 5/27/2009

I went to this dentist in late Feb when i was losing my job and told him i needed to get done whatever needs to be done.\r \r He then suddenly after doing a check up and a unbelievable number of x-rays came back with a laundry list of things he needs to do. It included like 9 fillings and deep cleaning and a root canal.\r \r At that point i was clear i just wanted to use my insurance money and wanted to do what was urgent as i was loosing my job.\r \r He decided to do the cleaning and the root canal. The cleaning was no big deal. Then for the root canal on a second appointment i was showed a video of what a root canal is and part of the root canal video was about a crown being placed.\r \r The Doctors wife and assistant Lana said the cost is $1200. I asked her if there was enough money in my insurance for that and she said yes and that i had to pay a small amount out of my pocket, which was like $200. I said fine and we went through the process and paid my part.\r \r After he was done I was asked to come again to make the moulding for the tooth for the crown. After they were done with the moulding his wife said that now i owed them $1200 more for the crown which was never disclosed to me. she said that they can't order the crown unless I paid. From that message i would understand that if you don't pay we won't order, so since i was never informed about the additional cost and the message i got plus i was leaving the state a few days later i never paid.\r \r One month later I get a letter from a lawyer about this issue. I told him my story but ofcourse he represents the client so it really didn't matter. I made a counter off to pay him half even though he doesn't deserve the money. It took them a month to get back to me and now they are taking me to small claims court. What a con artist !!!!!\r \r Do yourself a favor and spread the message, this is the worst dentist !!!!!! Cons: A con artist not a dentist more

Communication breakdown between billing department and dentist. 9/7/2008

There tends to be a communication breakdown between his billing people and \r Dr Shulman, he is an excellent dentist ,and I had much work done there, gum graph. Also many implants which was excellent work. But when I asked for a final payment amount to complete what I needed. I was informed two major procedures where left out.\r \r So all but two of the 6 I have repaired along with gum scaling and graph, there are still two teeth that I cannot afford to fix, because the loan amount I took out which I was quoted for the complete mouth restoration can not be completed. This leaves me very disappointed.\r \r I wanted a complete fix and the amount I was given to finish the job was abouy 3000$ off the mark.\r \r I only hope in the future Dr Shulman can complete the work, but I must come up with additional monies to do so. Pros: Excellent dentist does great work. Cons: Communication breakdown between his office manager Lena and him when it comes to what work is to be preformed. more

A dentist who makes me feel good about my treatment 11/15/2006

Finally a dentist who cares about me, and my personal needs in dental care. Dr. Shulkin asked me what my goals were concerning my dental health. Since then he has helped me get my teeth in good condition, and I am confident that we can keep my teeth healthy for the rest of my life. It's a great feeling! more

Terrible Customer Care 10/25/2006

Unlike the other reviews I thought the service there was HORRIBLE and APPALLING! \r \r The first woman I spoke to over the phone told me to come in for a free consultation to dicuss my procedures, when I arrived I was told there was $40 charge. Ok, I understand, there was a miscommunication, and I was happy to pay. But then the woman behind the desk began to rant and rave asking me why would we offer a free consultation restaurants do not give free tastings if you can not afford go to the dentist do not come and such. Please keep in mind I had already agreed to pay the $40. Feeling slightly attacked I explained that I am currently looking for an orthodontist in which to hand over $10K and that other places I had been to thus far had offered the service. The woman at reception then told me that I should go to one of those other places. I never before had seen people be so quick to be so rude and kick some one out the door that wanted to give $10K worth of business. I have never written a review before and hope to never again, but I would really like others to think twice about attending this dentist. Cons: bad service more

This place takes patient care to the next level! 8/28/2006

I am truly amazed at the level of service at this location. I travel from downtown Boston to this location because the patient care is unmatched. I found this place online and when I could not get an appointment anywhere else, they were able to see me at the last minute. I have horrible teeth but I didn't feel embarrassed one bit. The dentist and the staff are always professional and down to earth they even called me after the procedure to make sure I was not in pain and reminders for follow up appointments. When I was getting my tooth extracted the dental assistant held my hand until the end of the extraction to help me relax! Thank you so much for all of your help! This place takes patient care to the next level! Pros: Best patient care, friendly and sincere staff! more

""Thanks for being so gentle!"" 8/2/2006

Those five words from my toddler sum up our visit perfectly. The staff here was friendly and easy going, taking time to make sure that my children were comfortable with the instruments and procedures. Never once was my three year old or five year old frightened or uneasy. Thanks to the competant care they received here during their first visits to the dentist, I am relieved to say they won't be afraid to return for checkups. As for my own exam, it was thorough, quick and painless. Thanks Moody st. Dental! Pros: gentle, great with kids, easy appointments! more
