Got a new job in Chicago. Thanks Shovers Realty for a great apartment and wonderful service. Below market rent and I love the Greenfield neighborhood. I received all the security deposit back. The same apartment in Chicago will be twice as expensive. Thanks agian more

I loved the apartment, but the application took weeks. They ran my credit and then told me the apartment was rented. When I called to inquire why, they said they didn't like the fact we were going to bring in a caged rat (which we asked about before we applied and they said a caged pet was okay), and the fact that we have not given notice yet to our current place. They did not reach out to us to explain a decision; we did not need to bring the rat--it was just a bonus. We have mold in our current place, so we are supposed to look for a new place, and notifiy our landlord when we find one. They never even asked our explanation. \r \r But even though that was the explanation, they ran my credit anyways and I have a negative inquiry now. They would not answer why they did that if they already knew they weren't going to give us an apartment. This is shady and I must look elsewhere for a place to stay. I'm going to report this inquiry as illegal for checking my credit without intention of renting. more

I live in a townhouse managed by Shovers Realty over 4 years now with my wife 2 children. Reasonable rent and great service. A couple of days ago I ran into a old neighbor that used to live in the building. They always had parties and parked up the whole parking lot. A few of us complained and bingo, it seemed like in a couple of weeks and Shovers Realty got rid of them. The old neighbor was bragging to me how he stiffed Shovers out of 2 months rent and busted up the place . Then he got a little angry as he told me Shovers has a judgment against him for all the damage. Then he told me he went on some of these sights and made up a bunch of lies about Shovers Realty. more

My girlfriend and I have lived on North Cambrige overlooking the river for 3 yeas now. Shovers Realty service has been great, always there when needed. Reasonable rent and nice neighbors. We are very satisfied here. I just wanted people to know. more

I live on 83rd and Morgan with my 7 year old daughter for going on 3 years now. Great service and reasonable rent for a large 2 bedroom. Very nice neighbors because Shovers Realty really screens them. Once someone downstairs started causing disturbances and sort of went mental , they got rid of them in a month! They must be the angry people writing bad stuff because they got kicked out of a great building at a super low rent! more

My roommates and I lived downtown near MSOE. Huge spacious apartment at a reasonable rent and great service. We took care of the place and got all the security deposit back. I moved to a 1 bedroom that Shovers Realty manages. more

Renewed my lease for another year in Shorewood. Huge 2 bedroom 1 and ½ baths very reasonable rent for Shorewood and great service from Shovers Realty. Great neighbors. The cheap rent lets us save for a house! Very satisfied!\r \r \r more

3 wonderful years and reasonable rent. I got a new job out of state and had to move. They always responded to service requests promptly and refunded my deposit in full. I will never be able to replace my spacious apartment for the same cost. more

What everyone is saying here is true. Shovers does not take care of their buildings and they blame all the problems on the tenants. The owner gets mad when you request work orders and attempts to intimidate his renters acting like he knows what is going on. Truth is that he knows nothing and their maintenance staff is as incompetent as ""Tim the Tool man Taylor"". It takes months to get things fixed and even when things are fixed they are fixed incorrectly. My advice is to stay away and if you live there file a complaint not just with the BBB but call up your building authority and have the place inspected (it's free) and they will back you up if you have problems with Shovers as they fail to take care of their buildings. Additionally, the inspectors will force the problems to be fixed and hand out appropriate fines. more

Please, please, please avoid renting from this terrible and unprofessional company! They are rude, cheap and very unprofessional. They do not take care of their properties, inside or out. I had a screen door that needed to be fixed because it was hit by a tree branch during a storm. I called and called and called and finally two months later they came out to look at it. They never replaced it. When I called I was told that I would have to pay for it! Needless to say I filed a complaint with the BBB. Don't rent from them! more

They are really bad. I would never rent from them again. When I moved in things that I was told would be fixed never got fixed. In the basement by my storage locker there was a window and it was broken and when it rained all of my stuff got wet, I then had to throw away things. They never came to fix the window. The light switch broke in the bathroom and was sending off sparks, when i called I was told they will get there when they get there it was not something really important. And I have 2 small children. And not they are tryin to keep my security deposit for things they didn't fix or replace when I moved in. I will be contacting my lawyer about this now and getting my whole deposit back. \r more

Everything the others have been saying is true! Here's a short run-down of what I dealt with in less than a year of renting:\r *Leaky Ceiling. Water falls behind radiator and rots the carpeting. The ceiling is bowing from its weight.\r *Rodents. I finally got rid of the mice by stuffing the holes with steel wool. Now I can hear them chewing up the insides of the walls. The downstairs has feces all over. There's also a dead bird trapped in between the double panes that I asked to have removed about 5 mos ago--never happened.\r *Broken Washer/Drier. When I checked out the place, the realty specialist said she didn't have time to go downstairs but that everything worked. We never checked it out and what a mistake! The washer/drier didn't work at all. \r *No Hot Water/Cold Water. Lost hot water for two weeks. No cold tap water for about 7 months.\r *Rude: When I've called about some of these things I am either ignored or hung up on. When I called about the leaky roof, Shover himself called back and scoffed, ""How can you have a leaky roof? You live on the lower level?"" as though I was imagining it. \r *Hot as Hades. Shover's controlled the heat all winter and it was HOT! We called and after about 4 months it's gotten cooler. We were really lucky that the windows were so drafty. That's how we stayed cool! \r The place looks better now than when I moved in, but based on other reviews I doubt I'll get my deposit back. I'm hoping, but not expecting to. \r more

I rented for several years from different companies, before I rented from shovers, I never knew that realty company could be so evil. The heating is a big issue. Complain is no better than wasting time. It is impossible for them to improve the temperature even if the indoor temperature is lower than 65. They will try their best to keep your deposit and try to dig more from your pocket. As an advice, to keep yourself happy, you shall be away from Shovers Realty. They do not appreciate your rents and what you did for them, their only friend is money. Pros: price (actually compared with their service, it is too much) Cons: The most important thing is the way they treat you is awful. more

Do not consider for one second renting an apartment owned by Shovers Realty. They make look decent on the facade, but the quality of every single thing in the apartment is so low it's ridiculous. The heat barely works (heard this from neighbors as well), hot water is a joke, the management is useless and rude. Save yourself the headache and the rent money and do not rent from Shovers. Pros: No pros at all Cons: Poor quality everything, awful management more

The management is very unprofessional and rude. Three of the times I had called to ask a question or reply to a phone call, I was hung up on. When I called to have the towel rack fixed, which was faulty before I had moved in, it was not even repaired. Also, I had called to have the rotten chain in my toilet fixed because the chain links were breaking off, and their worker simply re-hooked it and did not replace it. This neglect eventually led to me having to lift up the tank cover every time I needed to flush resulting in it slipping from my wet fingers from flushing the toilet and dropping it on the back of the rim. I was then charged for half the toilet AND the service of this company replacing it, something I was told that would not happen. Although, this is a very specific account of negative events, none the less my entire series of interactions with Shover's Realty has been completely negative. Wow! what a dump......would not let my worst enemy live in this place. Never any heat....call and call again to get fixed. filled with thug kids. when called to complain was told ""nothing could be done"" this place just wants your rent money. never plowed parking spots......storage was broken into a number of times. appartment looked as if it was cut out of 1976..........never remodled........DO NOT RENT FROM SHOVERS!!!!!
