I've been going to Shooter's Choice for a few years to use the range; most of the reviews on them are right on, they think because they sell guns, that makes them smarter than the...

Really? 1/24/2011

My girlfriend and I drove an hour to shoot my new Glock 21, when I got to Shooter's I was told that the range was closed, They guy said "don't know when it will be open" as he smacked on a piece of fried chicken. One employee kept looking at my girlfriend and another was too busy texting to help customers. I'm sorry I wasted my time going to there and don't think I'll go back. more

Excellent 1/17/2011

Shooters Choice is by far the better range to shoot at. I think people who are unknowledgable are writing negative reviews based on single time incidents where more than likely they were given better advice for what they needed and didnt want to take it. The people who work there are beyond professional and always courteous. They are in no way stuck up and showing off, they know what they are doing. There is a peace of mind when you are shooting in there because these guys have years upon years of experience and if you need some help simply let them know what the problem is and they are right there and know what to do. I also noticed a few comments on here that were tracked back to employees of the new lexington range. If you want to see unprofessionalism at its best just walk inside that range. Not even mentioning the prices at Shooters are absolute best. The ammo is better by several dollars a box including wal marts rock bottom brands. Shooters has a brand new ventilation system bei more

Craphole 1/13/2011

I wouldn't spend a penny with this bunch of jerks, the owners must be the biggest morons to keep such jerks as employees. I went there to buy a 9mm handgun, I wasn't sure which gun was right for me and needed a little help and guidance with the purchase. The employee that was showing me the guns was the most arrogant *sshole I have ever met in my entire life, he acted like he knew everything and I was an idiot. I was embarrassed by the way he treated me. On my way out I took a peek at the indoor range and had two customers point guns at me, then I noticed a bullet hole in the wall and the gun smoke pouring out the door as a customer came out with soot all over his face, this can't be safe. I left the store never to return. They don't deserve my money and I really don't want to get shot or get cancer from all the lead in the air. more

Choose Somewhere Else 1/13/2011

I have lived in the West Columbia area for over 20 years and have always been to Shooters since they were the only range in town. The range itself has always felt claustrophobic and unventilated to me. Over the years, the customer service has gone from bad to almost non-existent. The last time I went there to buy a holster you would have thought I had just asked someone to dive into a pool filled with acid. \r \r I have never actually purchased a gun from there, so I can't really comment on that, but in my opinion there are much better options in the area, if for no other reason that good customer service. Businesses should never forget who actually helps them pay the bills. more

Bad Attitude 1/13/2011

I am amazed that people do business with Shooter's Choice. Almost all reviews are bad. I have been in the store twice and will never go back. First of all the employees are unfriendly and often treat customers like they are second rate. I have been treated that way myself and seen other customers walk out completely dissatisfied with the way they were treated by the employees. The shooting range is a total dump, bullet holes all over the place, it smells bad, the ventilation is non-existent and it's too dark. The vent they are putting in is needed but too little too late in my opinion. No wonder everyone is going over to Defender's Range, it's about time. more

New Indoor Range 1/13/2011

Shooters Choice is NOT the only indoor range in the Columbia area. Check out Defender Shooting Sports in Lexington, www.DefenderRange.com not only are they the largest indoor public range but they are also the only indoor range with proper ventilation, friendly staff and their prices are lower than Shooter's more

Adequate 12/23/2010

Well, Shooter's Choice IS the only indoor range in Columbia, but there are other public outdoor ranges located in the Sumter National Forest if you don't mind a road trip to Newberry (or beyond) and Mid-Carolina is an AWESOME private range in Gaston (another road trip). Ammo and gun prices at Shooter's Choice are high. I would never buy a gun there because it's cheaper to buy one online. I have never been treated disrespectfully but I know enough about guns to have an intelligent conversation with the sales staff. Most of their tactical/hunting gear is in line with prices I have seen in other gun shops around Columbia. more

SMART ALLECK PUNKS GALORE 12/21/2010

I only give it one star because I can't grade it lower. I have been going here since 1995. I go in hoping someone has cleaned this bunch of lowlifes up....nope ...still there. I don'tknow how this trash keeps a job. All I can say is the owner must have a bunch of fat, ugly stupid sisters and these are his brother in laws. I have had pistols pointed at my daughter and me on their firing range and the rangemaster didn't see anything wrong with that. I have stood in line and watched a clerk oggle a guys wife for 30 min. while he showed them every laser and light sysrem in stock.. They bought nothing and he walked away quickly while I screamed at him I had been waiting quietly for over 30 minutes for service. They also have a screaming idiot that works their rifle range that had a nervous breakdown because my M1 carbine was "THROWING BRASS EVERYWHERE!!!!". That is because he has been breathing lead dust for years from their broken ventilation system. DHEC has got to be taking bribes to let more

Being in the service industry, it is my duty, honor and privilege to provide quality service to my patients. Unfortunately, several employees at Shooter's do not embrace this philosophy. In particular, there is tall, nicotine saturated, mustached, bald gent who is perched high atop his throne ready and willing to help you feel lower than owl dung. God forbid the lay person approach him with any questions or concerns. He will certainly go out of his way to make your experience the equivalent of hammering a rusty nail through your patella (knee cap) very slowly. This crocodile skinned fellow is not the only self absorbed warm body pacing around the store. Out of the entire staff, approximately 1.5% of the employees are helpful. For all of you second amendment folks out there? rest assured there are a couple of options for you like: Sportsman?s Warehouse or Palmetto Firearms. If I had known then what I know now, I would have purchased my handguns at one of the aforementioned establ more

Shooter's Choice - NOT MY CHOICE! 11/29/2010

If you want great customer service, a knowledgeable staff, and a nice range to shoot at, then avoid Shooter's Choice at all costs. I have been in there a handful of times and never received the help I needed, and still haven't spent any $ other than range time. My last trip was to purchase a Galco holster for my Gen4 Glock 19. I asked when they expected more to arrive and the response was "I don't know, maybe when the next truck comes" with a smirk. The range is always cold in the Winter and extremely hot and non ventilated in the Summer. I have been in the tactical/firearms industry for nearly 6 years and trust me, if your question is about anything other than a Glock, then you wont get a knowledgeable answer. Let's not forget that the staff is a bunch of a-holes. Go to Sportsman's Warehouse or gunbroker.com if you want to purchase a new/used gun, and if you want a decent range to shoot at then join Mid-Carolina Rifle Club located in Gaston SC. The MCRC range is set up for pistol, rif more

Shooter's Choice 10/4/2010

I agree with the poor reviews. I have a .357 and a .32 Baretta Tomcat (carry in my pocket) and they told me it was a toy gun and laughed at me. It embarrased me and ticked me off at the same time. So yes, they are arrogant and a bunch of a--holes. I am going to finish my range card (two more trips) and then will be going to another range. more

Shooter's have another Choice!!!! 8/24/2010

Went in to purchase a shotgun today to take my kid hunting. First question from staff, "What's your price range?" I say $300-$500 and here is what I get. "Won't buy much." (eyes rolling) Shooter's Choice will never, ever, get a dime of my money...period! The guy didn't even mention that they sell used guns. I go over to the used department and that guy won't even put his fork down to help me. What a joke!! Good luck Shooter's Choice, your customer service is the absolute worst I have ever seen! Maybe you guys can buy and sell your own guns because I'M NOT BUYING!!!! more

Shooter's Choice-Poor! 5/23/2010

I go because they are the only game in town. They know this and are absolutly arrogent about it, even with a high end purchase. They disgrace the shooting community with their arrogance! more

Fine with me 5/12/2010

I have been buying and shooting here for years and generally have been very pleased with the staff. On Saturday, they are often quite busy and sometimes short of staff,so it might take a little longer to get waited on. Russel is great and very helpful. I have bought 7-8 rifles and pistols and have never been "lead"into buying any particular model. The prices I think are ok and competitive. I recently bought a Berneli shotgun and their prices were as good as a few other places. The shooting range is good but the ventilation system needs to be improved. One last comment: They have to be very careful about the gun laws and they have the right to refuse anyone a hand gun if the paper work is not in order, or any other thing that looks suspicious. I can assure you that they do not make up the rules. This protects all of us. Overall, Shooters Choice is fine with me. more

Shooter's Choice 5/1/2010

I have worked at Shooter's Choice for Eleven years this coming August. I have had both good and bad expiriences. The majority have been good and i enjoy teaching novice or inexpirenced people to shoot handguns, rifles, or shotguns. Our staff each has a speciality. I like historical guns, knives, and blackpowder. I can also help you find holsters or other accessories. I have been online reading reviews of the place I work and many of them seem quite out of character with our staff. If you have an odd caliber ask Mark, for tactical questions ask Eric, for questiions on safes ask Russell, for simple repairs or safe delivery speak to Corey, Bill is a new addition to our staff and knows about all manner of arms and the accoutrements that go with them. We can special order almost anything and sometimes it takes a while to get them in we will always call and see if you are still interested. Please do not be so quick to judge from one bad expirience let our knowledgeable staff see if we can fi more

They think they are the only game in town 3/10/2010

ARROGANT SMARTA$$'s, they don't care what you want to buy. The staff steers you toward the high price stuff and not something in your price range, even after they ask what your price range is. There is a little guy and his buddy ( I found out from someone later, it was his manager), that if you don;t purchase a Glock, then everything else is crap. AND if you want to shoot, they gotcha because that is the only open public range for a hundred miles. They want have to worry about my shopping there again! more

Satisfied Customer 3/4/2010

I recently purchased a Kimber CD II 1911 .45 at Shooters Choice. I have purchased other handguns there over the years and have always found the staff to be very helpful and they offer good advice on the purchases I have made. I sometimes use the indoor range and have found it to be well run and supervised. I will probably return and make other purchases as the need arises. A good place to shop!!! more

Jerks, ARROGANT 2/25/2010

These guys are the ones everyone picked on in high school. A bunch or arrogant jerks, that think their hott S***. They dont let you use certain guns at their range, they over charge customers, and have the customer service of a brick wall. They only stay in business becasue they are the only local public range in the area. I cant wait until someone puts them back in their place more

Shooter's Choice is a place to avoid 11/5/2009

The worst service ever. These guys do not know what they are talking about. if you are active duty military or a legal immigrant you are in trouble, because they want you to take your utility bills with you since they have trouble reading the BATF form. Especially a know it all called Carl does not understand federal law so he makes his own. Go to the Sportsman's warehouse instead. Outstanding service by a knowledgeable staff. more
