Bad Bad Bad 4/13/2012

Whoever is is leaving good reviews for this place either owns it or is working at the restaurant. This was not a pleasant experience at all. I decided to try carryout today because this location is so close to my home (bad decision on my part). First, I called them at 4:05 right when they open for dinner to place my order, which was Egg Fried Rice (simple, right?) and the lady informed me that it would be at least 20-25 minutes. Then I asked for a spicy mayo sauce and she informed me that they didn't have it so I agreed to their sauces when I got there. I arrived at 4:30 and my food wasn't ready yet and what's more shocking was that they only had 1 table seated at the dining room so the place was practically empty. While waiting for my food I decided to try their sauces. They were both so bad that I refused both of them. My food wasn't ready till 4:40 (again it was only egg fried rice, not an enormous order). After finally getting my food I had to stop at the Sushi restaurant right next door to pick up a spicy mayo and had to pay extra 50cents since Shogun didn't carry it. When I got home I was so irritated but decided to not call or complain until I tried the food. The food was the same quality as their service and their sauces. For an Egg Fried Rice dish it had barely any egg and the only thing that saved the taste was the spicy mayo, which I had to get from another Restaurant. I wish I could give this Restaurant 0 stars because giving it 1 star is a gift. more

Great food. 6/23/2008

I've been to many teppan yakki style restaurants and I have even worked at one too. This place has good food! yes they did run out of my favorite beer, but that didnt bother me too much. I didnt try the sushi, but over all the teppan style is good. Pros: small hole in the wall type of place Cons: small hole in the wall type of place more

Standard 2/17/2008

I've never been to a Japanese Steakhouse for an evening dinner where I haven't had to wait, even with a reservation. This is a common occurance. \r \r The sushi, the last time I was there they did not have rolls, just your standard Nigiri style and for your average person who is not a true sushi lover, this doesn't cut it. Don't go expecting the best sushi ever, you're better off going to I Love Mr. Sushi.\r \r Personally I don't even care for Japanese steakhouses, but this one is average and not worthy of a one star rating. It's decent food, for the standard price. The only complaint I have is its location and the type of patrons that come to this location for a ""special night out""\r Cons: Other patrons more

Not worth the price or experience 2/14/2008

I've ben to many Japanese Steakhouses, and Shogun by far is the worst.\r \r First was the wait. Apparently they didn't feel the need to try and seat 4 people for a meal. They wanted more. So our party had to wait for at least 45 minutes before another couple showed up.\r \r Then they were out of the Japanese Beer. \r \r The sushi left a lot to be desired as well. They were out of nearly half of what we had wanted. We finally just passed on the sushi altogether and waited for the food. \r \r Another thing for this place to look into is liability. Cooking foods on the same surface is not always a good idea, especially with those who have food allergies (such as shellfish). I had to ask twice that the surface and utensils be cleaned after the chef had prepared the lobster and scallops. Sorry, but I don't relish a night in the ER because someone doesn't think about cross contamination.\r \r All in all, I will not be going back there again.\r \r Waste of time, waste of money and there wasn't even a show. Just cooking and that's it. I think our party would have been better off making the trek to Oishi in Chesterfield. Cons: service, atmosphere, value for money more

Good Good Good 2/11/2008

Let me tell you....this is the best. Now I can say we do go for special times, but oh how good it is. My husband and I love eating all the food and trust me you will not leave hungry. The best part is our 5 year old LOVES the chicken and they do have a kids menu. You do need to call ahead since there is limited space but it is worth it. Price isn't bad either!!!! A+++++++++++++++++++ Pros: amount of food, the food, ambience, enteraining everything Cons: none that I can think of more

Sushi review only -- don't bother 12/31/2005

While not horrific -- and I've had horrific -- this is among the worst two or three places for sushi in the St. Louis area. The sushi is obviously an afterthought. The fish was obviously just thawed, the rice bland and texture bad (plain rice made into sushi rice?). No sushi bar; just a few seats at the small bar. In St. Charles county go to the excellent Crazy Sushi in St. Peter. Pros: Parking Cons: Sushi terrible more

Never Disappoints 12/21/2005

I've been going to Shogun for about 10 years, and the high quality of food never ceases to amaze me. The chefs put on a good show and the food will always bring you back. P.S. the mustard and ginger dipping sauces are unbelievable!!! Pros: Tasty, Reasonable, Always Friendly Cons: Small more

Huge portions, fun place 12/20/2005

This is one of my families favorites. If you walk away hungry it's your own fault as they give you lots of food! Each meal comes with a salad, soup, shrimp appetizers, huge portion of the best rice in town, veggie mixture, your meat entree, and bean sprouts. The more vocal you are during the show the better show you get. Definitely call for reservations. Very small, usually crowded, sometimes a bit slow to seat, but all worth it. If you have young kids who eat ketchup on everything, bring some with you because they don't have any. Pros: quantity, fun, unique Cons: crowded, noisy more

My Favorite Place 1/21/2005

My family and friends all love to go here. We usually go a couple times a month. The food is wonderful and they give you more than enough. Everyone in this restaurant is very friendly. Pros: non-smoking, kids menu more

Best Japanese Tempora in St. Louis 11/12/2002

Dont let the small space fool you. This restaraunt serves the best Japanese food in the area. They dont waist alot of time with a full show but they do cook everything on their menu to perfection. Their portions are larger than any other in St. Louis and done the way you ask. The cuts of meat, chicken, scallops and shrimp are fresh. The prices are less than the fancier Japanese that put on a big display for the customer but personally, I am there for the food not the shrimp in the hat routine. My advice would be to try it after the others so you wont be fooled by the show. Pros: Inexpensive, Delicious, Fun Cons: Small, Smoking, Noisey more
