Don't be late. Don't forget the Lysol - By JungleJay? 12/17/2009

We eat there often. Each time is a little less satisfying. I guess that's why most of the accolades and awards hanging on the walls are from the last millennium. It's like the old Tarus in the Grove. Good food, good company, feels like it hasn't been cleaned since it was built. Reservations suggested but not necessarily honored. Our reservation for 5 two nights ago was written incorrectly by the manager. According to him we were 15 minutes late and unseatable even though the restaurant was completely empty. We offered to leave and never come back. He showed us the door. So from now on we'll spend our money where its appreciated. And we suggest you should do the same. Pros: Food is generally good Cons: Management treats customers like the dining room's dirt more

Amazing Sushi, always consistent 10/19/2009

I love Shibui. I suggest everyone try the spicy crab sushi. The appetizers are excellent, the cooked food is very good. The servers are attentive, and many have been there for years and years. I have never had to send anything back in all my visits to Shibui, and there is always something different to try because the menu is quite extensive. The place is a little small, though it is very warm. This Japanese restaurant is among the best in Miami, and they have won awards recently as you can see in the waiting area in the front of the restaurant. Pros: Freshest Ingredients, Very large menu Cons: A little small in size more

Shibui, great sushi - very small place 10/19/2009

I recently had the chance to have some sushi at a local Japanese restaurant in the Kendall area of Miami and was pleasantly surprised. The interior design is wonderful. Wooden decor and staircases like you would imagine a quant home in Japan might look like, while customers sitting upstairs on a cushion-like seat enjoy their dinner. Food was great the only drawback I would say is how small this place is. You can imagine my surprise when I arrived and found out it's recommended you make reservations. Other than that it was a decent place to have some great sushi and drinks. Pros: Great food & decor Cons: Somewhat small and gets filled quickly more

if you enjoy pissing yourself off, go here! 6/17/2009

my first (and last) time I went here was quite the experience. it was about 3 years ago since I have been to this place, and how funny that things had not changed since. when we got there the parking was very packed, the person I came with drove a range rover so lets just say she was lucky she didn't crash into anyone. I forget if we had reservations, but i do remember waiting. At first I was enamored with the look of the restaurant; very traditional japanese dojo like setting. we were on the second floor which was pretty cool ..if you like sitting on the floor but w/e. the waitress we had was the b*tch from hell. she not only ignored us half of the night, she hardly gave refills and our green tea was cold by the time it reached out table. I did NOT like the sushi. granted it was my first time trying sushi, it had a very repugnant taste and its pretty pricey compared to better sushi places (akashi for one) oh lest you not forget that if you don't tip full percent for thier AWFUL service you may get hunted down, like i did. I felt she did a very bad job as a waiter and she had the audacity to call me out for tipping her low. I should have not even bothered to even tip her in the first place. don't waste your money. just cause its pretty doesn't mean its good. Pros: none. it doesn't even deserve half a star. Cons: parking, service, food, waiters, EVERYTHING more

Best Sushi in Miami 2/26/2009

I can't believe no one has mentioned the Macerena roll! Love this place. I was born and raised in Miami and have been going to Shibui for over 15 years!!! Nothing compares. more

Don't believe the hype 4/21/2008

After our family recommended it, my wife and I went on 4/19/08. We immediately noticed the poor hygiene in the kitchen through a screen back door as we were struggling to find parking. We entered and I approached the host. I asked him if we could get a table. His response was that I had to wait over 2 hours! I asked him if there was anything that could be done. He told me no. Shocked I asked again and again he said no. He did not even try to accomodate us at a bar or anything. At that point I decided to leave and that is when I noticed a hand written sign taped to the door that said ""Hold Your Breath"". I did not get it until I stepped outside and there was an overwhelming feces-like stench. Obviously it was someone trying to be funny, but the stench was there. Thai Cafe in Miami Lakes or even Benihana is a much better choice for sushi. Pros: Nothing Cons: Everything more

Great Sushi! 1/2/2008

I love this place! They have great sushi!!! I've had sushi all over the city and I rank this as my 2nd favorite Sushi place. This is a definite ""don't miss"" for sushi fans. Pros: Great Sushi! Cons: Long Waits! more

bad sushi 10/10/2007

I live around the area and have been there a lot but the last 2 times the sushi was bad (tuna). The roll fell apart and the tuna had a fishey smell. I would not tell my friends about this place. I think it is over rated and over price. If you want bad sushi go there. Pros: ambience Cons: smelly sushi more

Good Sushi 9/23/2007

We moved to Miami from New York a couple of years ago and we are sushi lovers, after going to countless sushis restaurants from South Beach to Aventura we were so happy to have found Shibui. The sushi has always been fantastic and I have never had to wait more than 10 minutes for a table if I made a reservation. Everyone that I have recommended Shibui to have thanked me. more

Dont Waste Your Time or Money! 8/12/2007

We went to Shibui last night, expecting the food to be delicious since it had been highly recommended. We had reservations for 8:15pm and had to wait almost 40 min for a table, finally when they sat us down we had till wait till almost 10pm to order our drinks. Finally after waiting for almost an hr and a half they bring us our food. I have gone to eat sushi all around Miami and the sushi rolls here were completely miniscule and the fish was not fresh, it had a fishy scent. The avocado on the dragon roll that was ordered was underripe and brown from sitting out for too long. Everything was overpriced and the quality of the food was below average, the only thing that was worth it was the japanese soda. Dont make the same mistake we did, dont go to Shibui. Pros: Ramune Cons: Sushi, Service, Parking more

Good sushi. 11/8/2006

The sushi is good, address is wrong (it is on 102), parking is not enough and the second floor it's romantic. Pros: Romantic Cons: Parking more

Best sushi in Miami 6/16/2006

I've been coming to this restuarant for almost 9 years. I love sushi and I have tried so many sushi restaurants. I do have favorites...but Shibui will almost be dear to my heart! It was the first sushi restaurant I tried and honestly the best! Their tuna tataki is the best! Their dragon rolls and spider rolls are exceptional! And just about anything you try from the menu will leave a smile on your face and leave you feeling muy caliente (very hot)! And since I love green iced tea thanks to someone who first introduced me to this place....their green iced tea is unique and tasty! more

Address incorrect 5/26/2006

Best Sushi Restaurant in Miami 10/17/2005

My husband and me have been coming to Shibui for 5 years now and we have to say that we have had the best sushi experience each and everytime. Their rolls are amazing. We have tried Beef Yukke and Dragon rolls at other restaurants but they don't compare to Shibui's. They have also added new innovative rolls such as the Spicy Tuna Sandwich and Mexican roll.. Awesome!! The restaurant is cozy, the upstairs dining is a must and their service is great. If Sushi is what you want you need to go to Shibui!! more
