Agressive Dog - Gentle Vet! 1/12/2011

I have a very agressive dog that has to be muzzled AND sedated when taken to the vet. Even though he is quite a handful for Dr. Hermann and her wonderful team, they are all so patient and gentle with him and me. You just can't ask for a better vet and assistants. more

Shallowford Animal Hospital is Highly Recommended 7/9/2009

Dr. Margaret Hermann has a gift ... compassion for animals (and their owners) and an amazing ability to care for them in a way that lets them (and their owners) know that she has their best interest at heart. My little Yorkie is at peace when Dr. Hermann is examining her. She never squirms or tries to get away and seriously seems to be excited when we drive up to her office! When Dr. Hermann looks into her eyes and speaks softly to her, she seems to relax and completely trust her. I had an older dog who passed away two years ago. Dr. Hermann was a godsend during that whole process. She was compassionate and caring for him as well as compassionate and caring for me - never once recommending extreme or costly procedures to extend his life for my own benefit. I honestly believe she has the animal's best interest at heart. She does recommend tests and procedures as one of the previous posters commented. However, the final decision is the pet owners and she works within their finan more

Expense 6/6/2007

As a former veterinary employee, I believe Shallowford's prices are very reasonable. A client needs to remember that a veterinary hospital uses the same equipment that a human hospital does. Without insurance to help defray costs, try pricing what you would pay for the same human procedures - except for castration! :) more

Dr. Hermann Rocks My Socks Off 3/29/2007

I'll never be able to do Dr. Hermann justice. She has a tone and gentleness with me that says, ?You're doing all you can for them. You're a good Mom, and we're in this together.? That means so much, but it doesn't compare to the tone that she uses with my anxious animals. She speaks to them with nothing less than Grace. ?You're worthy and beautiful creatures deserving of our love and protection, and I'm going to take care of you.? They believe her, and they do not hesitate to trust her.\r \r Earlier this week, I brought home a puppy that I had adopted from a no-kill organization. I had only had him for 36 hours when I took him to Dr. Hermann. As the list of illnesses and neglects grew, we were both visibly shaken at the state that he was in. I have no doubt that Tucker felt my anxiety and growing fury. And yet, even as the words, ?This makes me so angry,? left her mouth, her touch was clearly soothing to Tucker, who was so miserable and terrified. She sent me home more

A little pricey, but a very compassionate doctor! 11/29/2005

We have visited Shallowford Animal Hospital several times for our cat, as have my parents. Every visit has been very thorough and loving with our cats. The staff is quite good and very caring. The doctor really tries to keep the animal happy and is so loving with each pet. It is expensive, though, and the doctor often suggests every test in the book to make sure the animal is OK when there is a problem. more
