I recently visited Sergio's in Coral Way to have breakfast, my husband pointed out the "new healthy La Flaca Menu" it has a 4oz egg white omelette, which I'm a fan of in other restaurants, don't bother to order, it's some kind of egg biproduct, it's yellow, when I got it, I thought it was a mistake, so I sent ur back, the waitress came back and said it was yellow because the spinach in the omelette made it yellow, REALLY!!!!!, she said she would bring her manager, he came and said the same thing, I told him no amount of spinach turns eggwhites yellow, he took it back and said he would make sure it was done right, I waited about 15 minutes for the omelette, when the waitress came back it was the same thing, I swear I think they put the omelette under a heat lamp, made me wait to shut me up and brought back the same crap, I don't mind paying $7.00 for an omelette, just don't overcharge me and false advertise a healthy menu that is pure crap, shame on you Sergio's and owners, when my husband pointed out to a different manager of the incident, he simply said they used to do that , meaning use real egg whites in the past, but no longer do, and it was the owner's decision, it will be a cold day in Hell before I ever go back there again for breakfast more

The food is god for service is bad. Being going there for more than four years and keeps getting worse day by day. Its like the servers don't care. Might be a manager problem as they are not that friendly either. more

Sergio's is often busy. That just has to be because of the location.\r \r Located across from Winn Dixie on busy Coral Way, close to the beginning of Miracle Mile, Sergios is very well placed to take advantage of the passersby who enjoy Cuban food. I'm sure they do.\r \r I stopped by at 11am and was ravenous, ordered Masas de Puerco (my favorite Cuban dish) and a Bud Light. Newcastle was the beer of the day, I didn't think that went particularly well with Cuban food. A Blue Moon maybe, but Newcastle? Not for me.\r \r At $9.99 the Masas de Puerco cost 2 or 3 dollars more than I'm used to paying elsewhere. There was one special of the day, whose name I forget, similarly one special soup too, whose name I also forget. At the Cuban restaurants I go to more frequently, Las Vegas in Coral Gables and El Christo on Calle Ocho, they always have a few specials of the day to choose from. That's fun.\r \r Back to Sergios. \r \r Sitting outside, I had told my server that I needed to be served fast. One reason was that I had an appointment in half an hour. The other was my alarmingly low blood sugar level. If I didn't eat soon I knew I'd be liable to pass out/feel ill/murder somebody. I was most of the way through my beer when I realised 'Hey, this is a Cuban restaurant, shouldn't someone be bringing me bread?!'.\r \r But no-one did.\r \r (Most Cuban restaurants serve you a dish of flaky, toasted and buttered Cuban bread gratis whilst you wait for your meal.)\r \r I'm not sure whether anyone else in the restaurant got bread either. The couple behind me noticed when I tried to peek at their table. Yes they had the plastic platters that bread usually comes in and so did other tables. But they may have been eating sandwiches. They also come in platters like that.\r \r Eventually my meal came, it took over ten minutes to come. Given I said I was in a rush I really don't think that was good enough. Maybe it even took 20mins. When you're in a blood sugar crisis things get confusing.\r \r The pork most definitely looked like it had been first fried yesterday, again today. Over the chunks of pork in Masas de Puerco are sliced onions. The onions today included the tougher, thicker outer skin of the onion which I've never experienced in any other other cuisine but Cuban. Cuban restaurants often include them in their meals and I don't like it.\r \r The plantains looked like they had been made fresh, although they weren't as soft (cooked as long) as I like. Most plantains that you get with Cuban food in Miami do tend to be very soft. The black beans and rice - well, they were like black beans and rice. Unremarkable.\r \r Funnily enough I just went to Sergio's (rather attractive) website to get their address and the correct name of my favorite dish (Masas de Puercos), and they have a photo of the same looking just like I described them - over-fried (above). They remind me of the way Nigerians like to cook their meat before making delicious stews, frying it twice.\r \r It's not the way I'm used to eating Masas de Puercos and you have only to look at how fat a lot of Nigerians are to see that double-frying food is fattening (that and the masses of oil they use in their cooking traditionally). Some people like eating fatty foods and being fat, personally I avoid both.\r \r The best you usually get in a Cuban restaurant is 'OK' food - food that fills you, a few flavors, gives you the energy to go on. Even the most popular restaurants like Versailles and La Carretta aren't even so good when it comes to flavor and fine dining. If you've been to Versailles or La Carretta you'll think - 'Fine dining? That's a joke!'. Quite.\r \r Similarly Sergios may get pretty busy but it's not great food. It's barely passable food. Today is not the first time I've been to Sergios and today I went for the same reason I went before - it's on the way, it's filling, it should at least be more healthy than the McDonalds beside it.\r \r Other than that, why bother? more

Very good meal, but some mistakes: My daugther's order, the eggs didn't come like we original ordered. My Cesar Salad never came to the table, so I ask for to go. Before I drive to the restaurant with all my family, I call and ask if I could use 2 coupons at the same time; they say yes. When I send the bill back with the 2 coupons (that didn't have any exepcion print it) with the credit card; the manager came and say that couldn't be and the system doesn't let him to do that, because I ask to divided in to bills. Oh! still more! When we park and start to walk to the restaurant a man advise us, because like a tsunami coming up to the parking lot and it smelled horrifing and the water was spoiled and dirty. This same smell we feel in the restaurant because the table was near the kitchen door. So, my first visit wasn't like I expected. more

A local recommended this place to us for the best Cuban food in the area. It's a very bustling diner feel, with booths and counters and clanking dishes all around. \r \r Staff will speak Spanish at first, but didn't seem put out to speak English either. \r \r Had the masas de puerco which had a fabulous flavor but the meat was a little dry. Rice, beans, plantains, all good. The cuban sandwich, ironically, was our least favorite as we thought the bread was too much and too dry. Maybe that's authentic, I don't know, but we didn't prefer it.\r \r Very filling dinners and two beers for $26. Can't beat that. Glad we tried it. more

Never fails to disappoint. Service is great, but food is basically a Cuban version of Denny's. Bland, tasteless, bad, whatever, meh. All of that. I have been up to the walk up window for a quick cordadito and it was cheap and fine. I wouldn't get more to eat there than a pastry. more

Went to the one on 152nd in South Kendall a while back and was not very impressed. Yesterday I found myself at the Walmart in Hialeah (or Medley, where ever it is) and had one of the best pan con lechons I can remember. Not top tier Cuban, but the top of the economy/casual tier. Prices are great, service was great. more

It was our favorite cuban cafeteria for a few years but the food is too greasy and heavy at times. Portions are generous always enough for leftovers. Outdoor space and indoor ambiance quite nice and service is ok. more
