I finally found a restaurant where I can eat quality German/Austrian food for a reasonable price. I used to live in Germany so I was very excited to go there. The food was excellent!!! I had goose pate and Zwiebelrostbraten and it was unbelievable. The wine recommendation was very good and the service was great. The whole staff was very friendly and not stiff. \r I've eaten in top restaurants in NY and I would recommend this restaurant to those who want to have authentic, good quality food. The Weiner Schnitzel and scallops are a must! Was unsure what Austrian food was but it's the ingredients that make the food authentically Austrian. The duck was amazing! And the prices were highly competitive for Mid-town. To top off the chef's culinary brilliance, I was also able to have a conversation with my boyfriend without having to shout across the table - still curious as to how they managed that (must be some hi-tech structural design of the restaurant). Swanky interior, surprisingly unpretentious staff, and elegant but not overly-haute food made my evening at Seasonal one of the better dining experiences I've had in the city in a longtime. It's a particularly refreshing place for the neighborhood. It brings a little downtown vibe to midtown. The restaurant is on the small side, but I actually like that as it makes the place feel more intimate. Pricing was spot on. Not a steal, but definitely well worth the quality making the meal overall feel like a great deal. I tasted my wife's veal which was very good, but I particularly loved my grouper entree. One last thing: I asked the maitre d about the ceiling. Apparently it's a special soundproofing. And I think it really works because considering how crowded the place was I was amazed how easy it was for me to hear across my own table. Places where I'm unable to do that are big pet peeve of mine. Check this place out! If you are happening to be near Central Park South with visitors or on a date, and don't want to go to the typical tourist traps, this winebar & restaurant is the perfect scale and intimacy. You can unwind at the bar that is lit with great globe-like pendant lighting, giving it a very warm ambience, or select to be seated at a banquette (for 2 and 4 people) and taste Austrian and German influenced cooking, using local produce. As appetizers, I recommend the Schweinsbauch (braised pork belly), it's very tender and flavorful. As for entrees, you cannot go wrong with the Weiner Schnitzel- lightly breaded and not heavy. For a wintertime dish, the Kaisergulasch (slowly braised milk fed veal shoulder) was vey hearty. Their desserts are their strong point. The cooking is highly refined and sophisticated, just like the new interiors, also European-inspired. Service is warm and professional. Don't forget to check out the ceiling, very creative and I haven't seen anything like it, in my many years eating my way through all the places this city has to offer.
