If you are happening to be near Central Park South with visitors or on a date, and don't want to go to the typical tourist traps, this winebar & restaurant is the perfect scale and intimacy. You can unwind at the bar that is lit with great globe-like pendant lighting, giving it a very warm ambience, or select to be seated at a banquette (for 2 and 4 people) and taste Austrian and German influenced cooking, using local produce. As appetizers, I recommend the Schweinsbauch (braised pork belly), it's very tender and flavorful. As for entrees, you cannot go wrong with the Weiner Schnitzel- lightly breaded and not heavy. For a wintertime dish, the Kaisergulasch (slowly braised milk fed veal shoulder) was vey hearty. Their desserts are their strong point. The cooking is highly refined and sophisticated, just like the new interiors, also European-inspired. Service is warm and professional. Don't forget to check out the ceiling, very creative and I haven't seen anything like it, in my many years eating my way through all the places this city has to offer.
