NOT A GOOD EXPERIENCE FOR ME! I made it clear starting out that I was a first time rider. I was told to pull left to go left, pull right to go right, pull back to stop. Great instructions! About 100 yards out or so horse became unruly, jerking around, jumped a little, stopped. The guide finally had to put a rope on him to get him to go because the horse would not respond to him either. Then the guides' horse started acting up. My son finally said let's just go back. We ended up paying $120 for about a 10 minute ride. We just got in the car and left which upset my son about the money we had paid. I explained to him we had signed the papers releasing them from all damages and giving up our money once we mounted so I had no grounds to ask for our money back. This was a real disappointment for me because I took my son to CA for a graduation gift and hoped he would be able to ride horses on the beach. Definitely an experience I won't forget, a very frightening one. I don't know if this is normal behavior for their horses. Maybe if the guide we paid extra for paid a little more attention rather than talking on his cellphone all the time things would have been different, I don't know. It did make me feel better that after we dismounted the guide starting yelling (in Spanish) pointing at his horse and my horse. This confirmed to me, in my head anyway, that there was indeed an issue with the horses' behavior. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND READING ALL THE PAPERWORK YOU SIGN AND IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, JUST DON'T SIGN IT. YOU ARE SIGNING AWAY A LOT. AND IT IS JUST NOT WORTH IT. I WOULD NOT PUT A CHILD ON THESE HORSES, AT LEAST NOT THE ONES WE WERE ON.
Pros: One really nice guy worked there.
Cons: Safety, Cost, Instruction
