Editorial review from Citysearch 12/26/2012

Stay Away! They damaged my car and refused to take responsibility. Owner was very hostile - essentially called me a liar, ...raising his voice, yelling, interrupting me during the discussion. You could tell the other customers were astonished by his inappropriate behavior. In the end, he basically said you can't prove they did it. Shockingly awful way to run a business. more

Editorial review from Citysearch 12/18/2012

Owner was acting like a lunatic. Screaming at his employees. Being extremely rude, even to customers. They did a poor job cleaning my car. I heard this place used to be good, but nothing but bad reviews lately from friends/family that went here. more

DO NOT USE 11/2/2011

These folks do not know what they are doing! I paid $125.00 + to have my one year old car buffed. It had some minor scratches from a worse car wash in WV. (but that's another story) I was told after some discussion and testing a small spot that indeed they could fix my car. Well let me tell you they DID NOT! If anything they made it worse. I now not only have the scratches I have swirls in the pain. It will most likely cost thousands to fix. NEVER EVER TAKE YOUR CAR HERE! more

After hearing great responses about this Apex, NC carwash, I decided to go to them to see if they could get some sap spots out of my 5 month old white car. When I arrived, I was warmly greeted by a worker and explained to him what I wanted done. He said it shouldn't be a problem to ""spot treat"" it and remove the spots but would need to have the manager/owner come out and quote a price.\r \r I was quoted a price of $25 for the spot removal and we decided that since I had just washed the car that they wouldn't wash it again. The manager NEVER LOOKED at the car. While I was waiting, I noticed my car going through the car wash (which we had agreed not to do) then they wiped it down and brough me the keys. Yeah, I think it's done and I can be on my way. When I go out, there are still spots on the car and when I try to talk to the guy who wiped it down, he doesn't speak English so can't understand me. He goes to get someone else. The original guy comes out and starts to remove the missed spots explaing to me that the owner had made him stop because it was taking too long.\r \r I am getting upset at this point because the work has not been done that they said they would do. I finally get to actually talk to the owner and he said for this job they should have done a full detail and he didn't know the extent of it when he quoted the $25 price. If he had only looked at the car in the first place he would have known.\r \r He wouldn't budge on any compromise and was very rude to me. \r \r What surprised me most was that he was going to let me leave thinking that the job had been done when it actually hadn't. If he had only come out and explained to me that I actually needed a full detail and he quoted too low, I would have understood. Bad business practice to try to pull something over on your customers!\r \r more

As per other reviews, has gone downhill 6/7/2010

I have used this car wash for years and never had any problems. As I see the other reviews, I notice that others have commented that the service has gone downhill. I don't think it's necessary to go into every golden detail, but suffice it to say that the other comments about the manager really made me think, especially after what I experienced recently. After I made a minor complaint as other patrons have done (while at the same time asking for NOTHING in return, noting what a good car wash I thought I received, and confirming that I would continue to be a customer despite my complaint), the manager offered me a free wash "next time I came in," no time limit. I thought this was very nice. When I did come in (I go in about once a month for a full clean, though I went a bit longer this time as it has rained continually for several weeks), I brought the email with me as I felt he might not remember me. I greeted him with a smile and reminded him of our conversation. Basically, he grudgingly told me that they'd take care of it, whilst berating me for waiting too long, and giving me chapter and verse of what I'd done wrong that contributed to the problem. I tried to remind him of what we had actually discussed (since much of what he was saying to me was either irrelevant to my situation, or had already been addressed), and frankly he seemed fixated on one small micro-detail from the email and couldn't seem to get past that, but mostly I was just shocked that he was upset with me for taking him up on HIS unsolicited offer of a free wash to make things right. I mean, you tell someone hey, come on in and get a free wash, and then get upset when they do? I thought maybe he was just having a bad day, but now I wonder. And I had a problem following THIS wash, which again was minor (a missing item from the exterior of my car) -- I could not have been nicer when I asked if they could look for the missing item, and left my number so they could look later in the day when business slowed down, but I didn't hear back. Maybe I still will, but somehow I feel I won't. It was just weird to me. Another reviewer noted how he made a minor complaint, asking for nothing, saying that if it were his business he'd just want to know, and that he was similarly treated. I had given the benefit of the doubt and thought maybe he was just having a bad day, but now I wonder. Pros: Most employees very nice Cons: Moody manager, service has gone downhill more

Declining service and serious defensiveness 4/6/2010

This past weekend I brought my 2 cars to Scruffy Duck. In neither case did they do all the "little things" that I used to love about this place. Things like wiping down the door sills and making sure all of the vehicle was actually cleaned. With the first car I figured it was just an off-day, but the next day when the same thing happened with my other car I realized things had changed. I called and spoke to the manager. I told him that I wasn't pleased with the car washes I received (and gave him examples of what I meant). I also told him that I wanted nothing from him but was telling him because if it were my business I would want to know. He immediately went into this long dissertation about what wonderful feedback he receives from all of his customers (obviously implying that I was the problem here) and then proceeded to explain what his staff were and were not trained to do (which I took to mean that my expectations - that were based on previous experience at his shop - were too high). So, I told him that I would adjust my expectations in the future and he didn't like that either. Bottom line, the quality of the car wash you will receive here is variable. Sometimes it will be very good and other times it will not be. What ever you do, don't complain...the manager doesn't want to hear your opinion. Pros: Nice facility, friendly people, competitive prices Cons: Not as good as before, way defensive manager more

Consistant 7/24/2009

The attention to detail and request is far superior then any car wash I have ever been to. I have been patronizing the Scruffy Duck in Apex for over 2 years and have never been dissatisfied. Specially on my birthday. Any problems I felt that I had was taken care of immediatly. I own a 2004 Chevy Corvette and take great pride in the care of my vehicle so for me to trust a car wash would be very hard, but at Scruffy Duck in Apex I know that I can leave the car there for regular wash or a power detailing and it will be in as good a hands as mine. Pros: Incredible loyalty to VIP Customers and more Cons: Wish I had enepugh money to get the car washedevery week more

Could have been better 1/23/2009

I went to scruffy duck on several occasions and they started out doing an okay job but the quality of the car wash has steadily declined.I have noticed that my car has water spots all over it,they don't wipe the door jams, they pull out my electric mirrors by hand(dealer has said can cause malfunction) instead of realizing their is a button on the door.the workers are rude.the boss is usually around but he is no better than the employees.overall i would NOT recommend scruffy duck. Pros: Quick Cons: Pretty much everything else more

Scruffy Duck Destroyed My Car 10/13/2008

I recently wanted to get my car cleaned up, and decided to check out one of the local businesses to have my car detailed. I choose scruffy duck car was in cary/apex based solely on the fact that it was right up the street, big mistake. After paying 100 dollars for a detail, I returned to pick up my car to find that it would not shift out of first gear. I spoke with the owner, Mike Wendell, who was not at all helpful, and blamed the problem on the age of my car. A seven year old mercedes, well maintained shouldnt be having these problems on its own. When I took the car to get serviced, the mechanic showed me how a great deal of cleaning liquid was spilled down into my shifter, preventing the shifter from functioning properly, nothing to do with the age of the car. Mike Wendell felt that his business was not at fault however, and refused help at all with the replacement of the parts that his business destroyed!!! 1350 dollars!!!!!! Dont take your car to this car wash, unless you want extreme negligence and destruction of your property. more

Horrible Management 8/5/2008

My husband and I recently took both of our cars to Scruffy Duck for a mid-priced car wash. We have an SUV and sedan. Both were vacuumed out thoroughly. When the sedan went through the wash, the front blinker light fixture popped out. A manager came up to us while were waiting inside and asked if we knew about the body damage to our car. We went outside to look and there was no body damage. The light fixture was not connected and the light bulb had burnt out and the reflector on the fixture was cracked. We connected it back to the car and left. The person who was running the register was rude and the interior was not properly cleaned (dash board and other interior fixtures were not wiped down very well after going through the wash.) My husband called the car wash to let them know that we had never had any issue with the blinker light until it went through their wash, and to notify them that we had no prior body damage to our car. We were not asking for any money to fix the damages, we just wanted to let them know that the car wash did this. The owner of the Scruffy Duck hung up on my husband. Before doing so, he offered no apologies. This is the worst customer service that we have ever encountered, and we feel it is important that others know what happened to us before becoming patrons of this business. Pros: Vacuum of interior Cons: Customer service, interior detail, exterior wash more

A place in the hood 8/1/2008

To me this place is worse than the hood -- and I wasn't from the nicest neighborhood in town. The employees were horrible and my car wasn't treated with respect. The 5 star comments are worth a laugh -- probably left by the employees. My wheel wasn't cleaned and neither were my cup holders. These people can't get it right the first time and don't care if your car is a mess after the wash. That's right -- take your car to this place if you are going to sell it right after. more
