botched euthanasia 10/7/2012

We brought our dog in for euthanasia and had a horrible experience. The vet could not find our dog's vein and jabbed around inside of him with the needle. causing him to cry out in pain. He tried with the other leg and still could not find it. At the point, Buddy was anxious and scared. We asked if they could give him something to calm him and they said they could only put him under and that giving him valium would not help. When we mentioned that other vet we ha gone to gave a calming injection before euthanasia, the vet tech got defensive and snippy. They finally took him in the back to insert a catheter after failing to find his vein, and the vet tech had to insert it because the vet could not do it. After Buddy was finally euthanized, we called other vets to ask if they gave calming injections before euthanasia, and got a yes from several different vets. Overall it was a horrible experience. Buddy died scared and was hurt by the vet, and the staff was very unsympathetic and rude. I more

Way to expensive to be worth it. 3/29/2011

The other posts re: price is 100% correct- i actually moved behind the hospital and asked neighbors and every one said they went once and realized how expensive it was and chose other vets- since i have lived in LA, NY, Boston i thought I might not think it was that expensive- i went for a simple kitten checkup and they tried to sell me everything under the sun and literally the prices were 80% higher than i had at another vet- i had to get a fecal test for my dog last year, I think it cost $12 at our other vet- here they wanted $50 - crazy expenisive- and there was nothing about the care to validate the price- even the vaccine prices were crzzy. bummed bc now i have to drive far away for my animals when they are in my back yard. more

A Vet Mercenary Shop 2/8/2011

If you are seeking a long term relationship with a vet for the sake of your pet, avoid this place. We had brought our dog here for years - only to be met with price gouging and indifference when the dog developed arthritis in its advanced years. After shoveling thousands of dollars into this establishment, I was accused of "harassment" by the vet's office manager/wife when I expressed my concern about the establishment's practices. Further, after doing some price checking with other veterinary establishments, I discovered that Saugus Animal Hospital's prices for services and meds are approximately 80% higher than other vet offices. Unfortunately, this is the - value or lack of value - that this place puts on the client. more

TAGS saved Sparky 1/14/2011

Well took the Chihuaha (we named him Sparky)...back to TAGS since he seemed to be improving finally and they didn't even charge me for the visit. And they donated some food and enzyme to Sparky. TAGS and SAH had the right diagnosis, but TAGS came up with the life saving remedy and for 10% of the cost. more

VERY Pricey 8/19/2010

My dog needed a dental and some vaccines, so I thought I'd try out this hospital. They took my dog in the back to get the vaccines done while I had to wait in the waiting room. Most vets will easily give the vaccines right in front of you in the exam room. My dog was then called in to an exam room (so why couldn't I see him getting the vaccines?) for a physical before they could write up an estimate for the dental. The vet didn't even introduce herself. She simply said "Hi" and proceded to ask the usual questions about eating/drinking/peeing/pooping habits. We had thought she was one of the technicians until she continued with the physical. After leading us out the door, still without knowing her name, we went to the front desk to wait for the estimate on the dental. Without the possibility of extractions and the lump removal we had asked for, the cost was going to be over $700. This was a ridiculous price, and we were able to get it done at another animal hospital for $435 (4 extracti more

I heart Saugus Animal Hospital 4/30/2010

Every time I go to this hospital I have had the BEST results!!! \r \r The staff are allowed to bring their animals to work and let me tell you when you are asked to go in the back rooms with them it's the coolest thing; cause you see all these sweet happy puppies hanging out. \r \r Having a happy environment I believe helps your animal heal if he or she is sick. This place is paws down the best place for your loved one.\r \r Plus their open on Sundays and they have long hours!! more

Wonderful with a little improvment 9/25/2009

I'v been taking my pets here for 3-4 years now, they use to rent out their office after hours to All Creatures Emergency Clinic before the moved to Lyons. (same place, 2 different businesses) All the Doctors are WONDERFUL!! (I believe they have over 6 doctors now) they even have an Irish doctor that got his masters in surgery. They have a low cost vaccine clinic twice a week. I'v had nothing but good experiances here. One of the best parts of the hospital is actually their front desk Staff. The Girls up front are always so wonderful and knowledgeble. They usually can fit you in the same day and are very well trained to answer any questions you might have. The only bad things I have found is that they are one of the more expencive vets in the valley (but i guess u get what you pay for) =-) And their Management could use some work( or some classes) seems very un-organized and very little awareness as to how to manage a business. OVER-ALL RAITING: GREAT!!! more

I'll Never Go Back There Again !! 7/3/2009

I took my dog to Saugus Animal Hospital and had an awful experience. I thought that I would get second opinion, from my original vet, which I was quoted $600 to have a hematoma repaired in My dogs Ear.Upon arriving at SAH,I filled out the paper work, I waited 25 minutes as I watched the girls at the front desk leave and walk across the parking lot one at time to pickup their food to eat before they entered my information into the computer, once done and into the room, I meet a Veterinarian that seemed nice enough said that Max did not necessarily need the operation, that he could drain the ear and the cost would be only $200. I thought that sounded great and after the procedure we were told to bring him back in 3 days to remove the bandages and that he would need to be left for a few hours and sedated.Thirty Minutes after my son dropped Max off, I received a call from a very rude person, asking me why we left without signing the quote? Amazing Animal Hospital 4/26/2009

About a year ago, I was taking my two new kittens to SAH to get their shots but on my way into the hospital, my crate broke apart and my two little kittens ran in opposite directions through the parking lot!!! Not knowing which way to run, I chased after one kitten as it dodged through cars in the parking lot. Soon the hospital staff got wind of my situation and they shut down the vaccination clinic to help me find my other kitten. Now mind you, it was about 110 degrees outside and they all ran around with me with nets and cat carriers, hoping to spot my little white kitten! After TWO HOURS we were about to give up when one of the staff noticed a white tail dangling from inside one of the cars. We all circled the car and were able to reach in the engine and retrieve my now black kitten! :) I was sooo impressed with the staff, that they would stop the clinic to help me find my kitten!! I will never go to another hospital as they are the most caring group of people I have ever met!! Tha more

Awesome Staff!!! 1/9/2009

I have been taking my animals to Saugus Animal Hospital for about 6 years now. Can't ever imagine finding another clinic who cares for my animals the way these people do. Not only are my animals treated well, but so am I. The girls up front are always pleasant, and really take interest in our pet's health and needs. The entire staff is knowledgeable. They have flexible hours... Open 7 days a week! As well as low cost vaccine clinics! I am pretty sure SAH has about 9 doctors on staff, and can always fit me in. Every vet that we have seen has been nothing but wonderful. I wouldn't go anywhere else!! more

Saugus Animal Hospital has been nothing but wonderful. They take walk-ins, appointments and even emergencies. They can get you in same day, they have multiple knowledgeable Doctors on staff! The girls at the front desk always greet you with a welcoming smile. You and your pet feel like family the moment you walk in. The entire staff is educated on pet health care, and can answer any questions or concerns with confidence. I would never even consider going anywhere else! Dr. Greg Ehrman treats my pets with accuracy and compassion. The staff makes you and your pet feel comfortable and well taken care of. These people know what they are talking about. I highly recommend bringing your pets here, you will be more than satisfied. more

High Marks 8/11/2008

I have been taking my dogs to SAH for over 10 years. They take a very sensitive interest in my dogs and always give them the red carpet treatment. Dr. Ehrman is wonderful, but if he is not available, Dr. Martello is a very effective fill in. The front office gals are wonderful. They treat you like family both in person and on the phone. The entire staff has been wonderful to my family through regular check up, illness, cancer and even death. I could not think of going anywhere else for the care of my dogs. more

Great Experience! 7/31/2008

Our newly adopted rescue dog had come home with a cut foot that wasn't healing. So, I called the office in the morning, and they were able to get me in with Dr. Ehrman in the afternoon, when I could make it in. He was able to clean, staple and bandage it, and when his technician found that his tick problem was awful between his toes, they started working on that issue too. They did a great job with an ear injury, microchipping, and were knowledgeable about other issues (ticks, hotspots, getting acclimated ) we were facing with our new dog. We were very impressed with the quality of care and the cost. Yes, we even got a discount on our office visit for our shelter dog! We were impressed with the office staff on the phone and in person - they were kind and personable. In addition, the technician was just wonderful with our dog - gentle and kind. We have had very good luck here with our other dogs, and during the visit even had a moment to chat about an ill dog. We are extremel more

Good Vet 9/28/2007

I brought my temperamental chihuahua dog to this vet when he had been bit by a rattlesnake. This dog is usually aggressive towards strangers but he took to the staff and the vet very quickly . They were all very friendly and gentle with him. The vet was even willing to explain the things I didn't understand in detail. Although in comparison to other vets this one was one of the more expensive. more

Used to love- not any more 5/24/2007

I've went here seven years- love Dr. Ehman, unfortunately I haven't had an appt. with him since the expansion. I've been unhappy with the shuffling around- seeing different vets(and enduring lots of office/lab fees) because two of the three new vets could not poroperly diagnose the problem with my animal. This place just isn't the same. more

Good head veterinarian 11/5/2005

I have two cats and two dogs and have been to this vet many times. They have always done a good job. Many of the vet techs are very loving towards animals. The head vet is particulary nice and my sometimes stubborn cat took to him immediately. They also have vaccine clinics where you don't have to wait a long time. Overall, the desk staff could be friendlier. more

Saugus Animal Hospital is convienent and they do a great job with animals. My dog has been taken care of many times there and I've never had a problem with them. They work with you and take care of your pet. The staff is friendly and they answer all your questions. more

I have seen them speak gently and reassuringly to the animal and try to ease their pain as fast they can. I would highly recommend them and will always refer to them for my pet needs. more
