The Sapphire Hotel 11/21/2006

This is the perfect first date spot. No smoking inside so if need be you can pretend like you don't for his/her benefit, until they actually get to know you. Great tapas and plates of things easy to nibble at, but don't order full meals. Too much $ for what you get. Stick to apps. and Cocktails. They have a daily drink special and happy hour. Atmosphere: Bueno... Beautiful, tattooed, nice mellow lighting, and my fav. a small installation above the bar that resembles a small, red lit room of a brothel. more

Beautiful people, beautiful bar 6/3/2005

Bring a sexy date and some extra cash to this swank Asian-themed bar on a strip of SE Hawthorne that's better known for its stiff drinks than its ambiance. The lighting is great, the decor is hot, and the drinks are... well... a little over-priced. But you're paying extra to be made to feel smarter, prettier, and cooler than you actually are, and sometimes that just makes up for an $8 Manhattan. And no, it's not really a hotel. more
