Horrible Experience, never to return 2/14/2010

I've heard only great things about the cuisine at Mosaic so I decided to take my Valentine's date there...HORRIBLE decision!\r \r I made reservations for Saturday but we ended up waiting OVER AN HOUR for our table. This is especially ridiculous considering that when I made my reservation, I was required to give my credit card info so that Mosaic could charge me a $50 no show fee if I was more than 30 minutes late and didn't call. Of course, Mosaic didn't offer any compensation for making us wait over an hour for our table except for a measly two ounce blue liquor drink. There were over five other parties in similar situations and not once did a manager come to apologize or explain what was happening. Even though there was an assistant manager hovering over the hostess almost the whole time. Mind you, all these parties had reservations like us and everyone waited at least an hour. There was a couple ahead of us in line for a table who ended up leaving because they had been waiting over AN HOUR AND A HALF. And to throw salt in the wound, I walked around after 45 minutes of waiting and saw FIVE TABLES open. Upon asking the hostess why we weren't being seated, she nervously replied that she couldn't find any wait staff to clean up or put silverware on the table.....again, while an assistant manager sat idly by watching.\r \r We finally got seated but after ordering had to request water refills a few times. Our appetizer only appeared after our meals did. But at least we weren't charged. The brownies that came with out desert were stale and rock hard. But again, we weren't charged for that...as I would expect. We sat near the kitchen, and watched in amazement as the management and wait staff consistently dropped plates, ran into each other, or were seen chit chatting while ourselves and other tables were waiting for orders, drinks, etc. POOR QUALITY MANAGEMENT. I can say this because although it was busy, it wasn't totally slammed. I've been in dozens of top restaurants that haven been busier but handled the stress with class.....not at Mosaic.\r \r Overall the food was good, but not excellent. The service once we were seated was lacking, but of course the worst thing was the reservation - seating fiasco which I attribute to POOR MANAGEMENT and a lack of customer service one would expect with the prices on the menu. \r \r If you're counting on Mosaic to make your special night a wonderful experience, beware. I would go somewhere else.\r Pros: Food Cons: Service, Management more

my favorite! 3/2/2007

my friends and i try to go there once a week, the food is fantastic, the desserts are to die for! the chocolate fondue! oooo baby! place is very clean, retro-modern looking, more of a younger crowd (20-30). its pricey, but your paying for the excellence of the restaraunt. \r \r highly highly recommended! Pros: service, food, desserts, music more

THE BEST 10/4/2006

Nothing better in Detroit- I have dreams about the chicken pillard, chocolate fondue and ceasar salads! My husband and I try to get there at least once a month (if not more!). Their Sunday brunch is to die for, a great spread and endless mimosas! The prices do reflect their great fare, but it is well worth it! Reservations are a must on weekends, as they book a week in advance (at least!) \r When night hits, the bar side becomes a great hangout, but get there early to actually get in- the line is long after 10 for bar seating. Pros: In Greektown, great food, great service Cons: none... more
