This is asuch a wonderful place! The owner and Mngmt go out of there way to make a pleasant experience.. Wednesdays are the day for Great Food, and Great ( And on Special ) Margaritas! Take the kids because they have a clean well kept San Pit for them to play in.. Ask for Meredith! She is the best! A Must Visit Place in NW Houston! more

WOW - great food, service, and atmosphere! 5/22/2011

The hubster and I visited Santa Fe Flats for the first time today. As huge fans of New Mexican cooking and Hatch chiles in general, we had high hopes but low expectations; Tex-Mex is all you can expect in Houston for the most part. We were SO pleasantly surprised! While the table salsas were just okay, everything else was absolutely amazing! After placing our order the waitress (Ambur, who was soft-spoken but fantastic and on top of everything!) insisted we try the red sauce to be sure we'd like it. She brought samples of the red AND green sauces...and they were both perfect. The chiles rellenos had a wonderful, light batter and tons of flavor. The enchiladas, topped with fried eggs in the New Mexican style, were to die for. But the stuffed sopaipilla was the star, in my opinion - light & fluffy pastry full of tasty morsels and savory sauce. We have a new favorite restaurant. Service was great, food was scrumptious, and the patio was breezy and pleasant, even on an 85+ degree day, thanks to carefully placed foliage and fans. There's really nothing we would change...except eating less chips & salsa to leave more room for the delicacies to follow! We will DEFINITELY be back - y'all rock!! more

So glad I found this place! 5/3/2011

A friend of mine invited me here after work last week., and I have been back twice since then. First of all, the patio, live music, and Mango Margaritas make my day. I had the pollo del mar, by recomendation..Melted in my mouth, one of the best chicken dishes I have ever had. I have also eaten the fajitas which are top of the line. I just happened to pass by on a Saturday mid-morning, and noticed they were open for Brunch. My mom and I had mimosas ( only $1 ), and green chili BLT's!... The Best Ever, love , love the BLT. The service is quick and friendly. The atmosphere is inviting. Top notch place, will be a regular Im sure. more

Great Spot for Happy Hour 4/21/2011

The patio is awesome! They have great margarita specials on most days, and live music on the patio. My coworkers and I love this place. more

luke-warm puddle of mush..... 3/31/2011

We went there for dinner on a whim. I had the green enchiladas and my wife had the fajitas. The (beef) fajitas were ok but my enchiladas were terrible....unedable. The green enchiladas came out as a luke warm puddle of mush. Not only was the texture unapitizing but it tasted terrible. I have never not eaten a meal I ordered in my life, until I ate here. The tortillas were also awful (tasteless and cardboard like). I will say the waitstaff was curtious and the place looked attractive. Also the salsa was not half bad. Perhaps the drinks are a better bet but I will never go back and I would advise other perspective customers to seek out one of the other restaurants in the vacinity. more

Best New Mexico food in Texas and New Mexico 12/6/2009

When we moved from New Mexico to San Francisco, we found several fairly good restaurants serving New Mexico food. Surprisingly, when we moved from San Francisco to Houston, closer geographically to our home state, we found only a single restaurant specializing in New Mexico food. That's the bad news. The good news is that this is a really special restaurant. We were attracted to this unique restaurant by a local review in the Houston Chronicle. It is true to its apt name of ""Santa Fe Flats"". As described in their website, the restaurant serves traditional New Mexico fare and specializes in the stacked enchiladas made with New Mexico's famous red and green chilies. We have sampled the best-known restaurants in every town of any size throughout New Mexico and the food served by Santa Fe Flats is indeed better than the best we have ever previously encountered. As a reviewer in a Houston Internet restaurant review (before you eat) has stated, Santa Fe Flats is more New Mexico than Santa Fe. The decor is beautifully done and in true New Mexico style. The restaurant is managed and owned by the children of a transplanted New Mexico family. Many of the recipes are those of their grandmother. The restaurant has a sandbox for kids, a full-service bar, live music several nights a week, and best of all, the best New Mexico food we have ever eaten. Santa Fe Flats is a once a week ( at least) outing for us since we discovered this wonderful reincarnation of our young years growing up in New Mexico. Pros: Best green chile enchladas ever Cons: Haven't found any yet more

Decent little place 10/16/2009

This is a nice little place, we used to always go to on Sundays. It's nothing fancy, but neither are the prices. It has a nice patio when the weather is nice. I don't recommend the house margarita, stick to the Patron - which is too expensive. Pros: Location, Wait Staff more

The only New Mex Restaurant situated in Houston Texas!

Owner Message
  • Santa Fe Flats NewMex Grille is the special endeavor of a transplanted New Mexico family with the same fond memories and desire for unique Southwestern cuisine. Located in Houston, TX, the restaurant's fare is based on the recipes of the family matriarch, for whom the restaurant's "Bar Angelina" has been named.

Photographs displayed in the bar chronicle the family's history from the early 1900's when they emigrated from Spain. The decor, like the food, is New Mexican. An illuminated arrangement of authentic New Mexico Indian pottery is displayed above an expansive salad bar. The interior construction of Santa Fe Flats NewMex Grille consists of wood columns and vigas. Outside, we over shaded seating for drinking and dining.
