Review content:
The hubster and I visited Santa Fe Flats for the first time today. As huge fans of New Mexican cooking and Hatch chiles in general, we had high hopes but low expectations; Tex-Mex is all you can expect in Houston for the most part. We were SO pleasantly surprised! While the table salsas were just okay, everything else was absolutely amazing! After placing our order the waitress (Ambur, who was soft-spoken but fantastic and on top of everything!) insisted we try the red sauce to be sure we'd like it. She brought samples of the red AND green sauces...and they were both perfect. The chiles rellenos had a wonderful, light batter and tons of flavor. The enchiladas, topped with fried eggs in the New Mexican style, were to die for. But the stuffed sopaipilla was the star, in my opinion - light & fluffy pastry full of tasty morsels and savory sauce. We have a new favorite restaurant. Service was great, food was scrumptious, and the patio was breezy and pleasant, even on an 85+ degree day, thanks to carefully placed foliage and fans. There's really nothing we would change...except eating less chips & salsa to leave more room for the delicacies to follow! We will DEFINITELY be back - y'all rock!!
