Review content:
When we moved from New Mexico to San Francisco, we found several fairly good restaurants serving New Mexico food. Surprisingly, when we moved from San Francisco to Houston, closer geographically to our home state, we found only a single restaurant specializing in New Mexico food. That's the bad news. The good news is that this is a really special restaurant. We were attracted to this unique restaurant by a local review in the Houston Chronicle. It is true to its apt name of ""Santa Fe Flats"". As described in their website, the restaurant serves traditional New Mexico fare and specializes in the stacked enchiladas made with New Mexico's famous red and green chilies. We have sampled the best-known restaurants in every town of any size throughout New Mexico and the food served by Santa Fe Flats is indeed better than the best we have ever previously encountered. As a reviewer in a Houston Internet restaurant review (before you eat) has stated, Santa Fe Flats is more New Mexico than Santa Fe. The decor is beautifully done and in true New Mexico style. The restaurant is managed and owned by the children of a transplanted New Mexico family. Many of the recipes are those of their grandmother. The restaurant has a sandbox for kids, a full-service bar, live music several nights a week, and best of all, the best New Mexico food we have ever eaten. Santa Fe Flats is a once a week ( at least) outing for us since we discovered this wonderful reincarnation of our young years growing up in New Mexico. Pros: Best green chile enchladas ever Cons: Haven't found any yet
