As a nearly four year resident of Santa Catalina Villas, I want to take issue with the review written by “Love4Life” (embarrassed to use his real name?).
The salad bar containers are embedded in a bed of ice on the salad bar. They are chilled as well as possible. The mixed greens, which I use, are definitely not wilted.
The soups are almost always excellent and served hot. I rarely eat meat and can not comment on its quality. I usually order fish and it is fresh and well prepared. The salmon is exceptional and very popular.
Fresh vegetables are used when available. Other vegetables are of necessity frozen. Vegetables are almost always prepared al dente. There have been occasions when vegetables are overcooked. Many residents prefer vegetables that are soft because they are easier to chew. Remember this is a senior community. I can not comment on potatoes because I have never ordered them.
Desserts are frequently “made from scratch” in house. In addition to pastries, cakes and cookies, a selection of ice cream flavors are available.
Sugar-free desserts and ice cream are always available.
Is food consistently prepared to gourmet standards? Of course not, but one person’s excellent rating may not be shared by over 200 residents. It is not possible to consistently satisfy that many people.
The menu is varied. I appreciate the food being served with a low sodium content.
Pros: A hard working staff dedicated to pleasing residents
