Awesome place !!!!.. This is the kind of seafood restaurant (nautical fixtures, lobster newburg, crab legs by the kilo, tartar sauce) that they are thinking of when they say ""old school."" And where else could it be but City Island? more

Visited SAMMY's today and must say the ambiance is great the food is incredible but the waiter by the name of JEFFREY made us feel not welcomed. well we had a party of 14 today for my father's family get together and we decided to go to Sammy's , i want to say that the food was out of this world looked and tasted great ..but most of all our waiter Miguel was out of this world he did make the experience incredible !!! he made sure the food was right he even sent back a steak that was not made right \r i want to thank him sincerely for all he did Sammy's should be \r glad to have him working for them ..we will be back .and yes we are real people not making anything up just in case anyone was wondering ...and you can not judge any restaurant on anything a few people experience go there and see for yourself ..great job see you soon ..Joe more

Ambiance Is Great. Food & Drinks even better.. My wife and I had cocktails and dinner at Sammy's on City Island a few days ago and as always we were very happy with the experience. The Restaurant has been around since the 60's and looks like it opened yesterday. This is a fun place. I am the 3rd generation of my family going to Sammy's and were working on the 4th.. more

Seafood, Mojitos and more 5/19/2012

I am not a great letter writer but I just had to say that I recently dined at Sammy's on City Island and had a fantastic evening. The staff and food were five star as well as the decor was so cool, I felt like I was eating at one of those great feeling Disney theme restaurants. I must add that my wife and I shared a 5lb lobster that was the best I ever had. more

Melt in your mouth menu 5/19/2012

We were a party of 20 and purposely ordered 20 different appetizers and 20 different entrees as is the custom when our club eats out.. I just could not believe it that this was the first time after meeting at countless restaurants over the last 5 years that every single dish was a winner. What a great restaurant, Sammy's is on the top of our list. We are all planning to have another meeting there next month..This will be the first time we have return to a restaurant for our club meeting.. more

Best BBQ since I moved from Texas. 5/19/2012

I am a huge BBQ fan since my college days in Austin Texas. Last week my friend invited me to dinner up on City Island at Sammy's Fishbox. I would have rather gone to a BBQ place but since I was a guest it wasn't my choice.. To my surprise Sammy's had the best Baby Back Ribs I have ever eaten, They were succulent and tender off the bone. I had a Rib and whole lobster combination that was so good. The restauarant had a wonderful vibe as well, can't wait to go back.. more

Best seafood restaurant in NYC 5/7/2012

I first came here in the 1980's but haven't been back because I now live out of state. Went back this weekend with some guests and it's every bit as good as ever. My favorite is the fried combination platter, with one serving you can eat yourself to overflowing and still take home enough for a full meal for another day. The reason you come here is for large portions of great tasting fresh seafood, what else is there to say? Sure the entrees run $35 - $40 but you get what you pay for. I've never met anyone who's been here, who didn't want to go back again and again. And the valet parking is free. more

What a mistake..... 4/15/2012

One the worst restaurant experiences I ever had. The food was not good at all. I ordered the fillet of sole and boy was that a mistake.the batter they use is pretty bad. My daughter threw up in a disgusting bathroom half way through the meal. she had the crab legs with the shell steak. The waiter was nice but never around. I felt like I was being robbed when I had to pay the ridiculously over priced bill. Giving this place 5 stars is a complete joke !! more

The Crab Legs are absolutely best! 1/29/2012

Sammy's is the best seafood restaurant in New York. The whole Lobster Newburg was simple but awesome tasting. The huge portion of fresh grilled fish of the day is a bargain, but the crab legs are the absolute best! Decor and service is really funky and cozy, more

If Seafood is your thing, Than Sammy's is your Place 1/22/2012

I love seafood and when we go out my husband and I always go seafood. I don't know of any other restaurant that that matches the quality and portion size that Sammy's affords us. I love Fresh fish and they have a daily list of at least 12 types of fresh fish. they recently had artic char, a fish I never had before, it was fantastic. I had it cajun style. My husband and daughter shared one of Sammy's famous Crab feasts, . It was enough for us to have for dinner the following evening. I highly recommend this restaurant if you love fresh seafood, giant portions and a fun staff, who always treats us right. more
