Best

The service was excellent. My mother and I went for a light dinner but were indecisive about what we wanted. The waiter was so patient and helped us out with our final decision....

Worst

After looking over the reviews for this restaurant and some of the similar rBrazilian estaurants, it really seems to me that 'ringers' (staff or friends) have been building up Sam...

TERRIBLE EVERYTHING 2/1/2005

The dozen dead roses on the hostess table should have been a clue, or maybe the grumbling patrons in front of us who weren't getting seated either. Monday, not busy, open tables visible, waited a full 15 minutes, finally stopped a server and asked to be seated, was told ""in a minute,"" almost another 10 before being shown to a table. Ignored for drinks, not told if we could go directly to the buffet or what, and then the food was salty and nasty. How does this place manage to stay open? The servers even looked miserable, what a nightmare! Cons: Bad Service , Bad Atmosphere, Bad Food more

Horrible! 1/29/2005

I was on a 2nd date. Even after explaining it was our first time in there, no one explained to us how the buffet here worked, we sat around for 20 minutes wondering why no one offered us meat, then realized you had to have a ""green"" sign. Salad Bar was lacking, servers kept coming by with nothing but sausage with long periods of time between other kinds of meat. Some of the meat (i.e. chicken) was extremely salty. Would of gotten better value at any other buffet in Salt Lake City. No wonder this restaurant had no line on a Saturday night to get in. Pros: Good Location Cons: Overpriced, Over-Salted Food more

Ordinary Brazillian meat buffet 12/8/2004

The Spice Islands buffet at the Alladin hotel in Las Vegas was far superior for less money. This is not worth a return trip. The location in the Gateway is great. But but the food here is not. If you like grisled, cheap meat at expensive prices in decent surroundings, then this is the place for you, not me. Pros: decor, location Cons: , cheap meat, parking more

BAD SERVICE 10/22/2004

I am Brazilian and I don't like this restaurant. Too expensive, the meat is salty and the salad bar has no variety. I don't recomend it to anyone! more

What service! 7/19/2004

I recently went to Samba with my wife and her parents prior to seeing a concert in SLC. After about a 15 min. wait at the door to be seated, even though there were a half dozen table empty during our wait. We had been seated for about another 15 min. before I had to call someone to bring water to the table. The service there was horrible, and an ebarassment to us since my in-laws rarely try to do much in the city. I hope that others tell this truth of a lazy restaurant and focus on the Brazillian cooking at Trolley Square. Cons: , long wait, Bad Service more

MEAT LOVER 7/13/2004

HI I'M A MEAT LOVER. AFTER TASTING EACH ONE OF THE MEAT CHOICES HERE I DIDN'T EAT ANYMORE. IT WAS VERY AVERAGE IT WAS LIKE EATING THE MEAT AT MCDONALDS. BUT THERE IS ONE THING THAT I LOVED AT SAMBA GRILL. THIS WAS THE FRIED BANANNAS IT WAS EXCELLENT. AND WOULD RECOMMEND GOING THERE FOR THE BANANNAS ALTHOUGH IT'S WAY OVER PRICED FOR JUST FRIED BANANNAS. Pros: FRIED more

Truly Authentic Brazillian! 6/15/2004

The Samba Grill in the Gateway has a wonderful atmosphere. The owner really knows what he's doing, combining truly authentic Brazillian cuisine with american style sides at the salad/side bar. Definitely worth the price. more

ATKINS FRIENDLY MENU 6/7/2004

This Brazilian gem is filled with natural low carb varities to choose from. The array of skewered meats are the protein king to the relentless carnivores. You cannot leave until you tried the alligator sausage, that is wild. Pros: low carb choices, atkins friendly, great for groups more

sub par 4/8/2004

The food is below average grade meat, the buffet is really poor, and having to wait while the guy who walks around the meat gets to you with your type of meat is really poor. $5.00 for a lemonade? And one $19.95 fixed price meal (dinner) - $17.99 during the week, unless you want to sample the limp lettuce and potato salad which then 1.99 is added. Looking around, I did not see any repeat customers - all had to be explained how the restaurant ""works"". It only takes once to discover not to return. If you like your meat rare to medium-rare, forget it - dry and well done is the standard. Cons: , meats, salads more

dissapointed 4/7/2004

I thought I would give this place a try My experience started out ok then all of sudden the servers avoided me and the food stop comming and it just got worse. I usually tip 25% but this was so bad I left no tip. I will go back to Rodizo grill and avoid this place more

No Rodizios 5/13/2003

The ""salad bar"" was blase at best, consisting of so-so mashed potatoes, 3 kinds of pretty much the same salad... the garlic noodles were actually the best there. Unfortunately, not only was most of the meat cooked badly or too tough (even the pineapple was brown), the guys bringing it around gave everyone the absolute smallest portions possible. I felt humiliated to have brought my dad there for his birthday. The high ceilings and the layout of the tables gave it an open atmosphere, but it just didn't feel right, like they had a very poor designer, especially for the type of restaurant. It feels like it's actually a club they just turned into a restaurant by throwing out a few tables. It could have been a good cheaper, quieter alternative to Rodizios, except for the $20 per plate. My suggestion: Stay Away! Pros: no wait at 7 pm, close to the movies, kid-friendly Cons: BAD food, tiny portions, overpriced more

MOST KIDS DO NOT EAT FREE!! 5/9/2003

THE ATMOSPHERE WAS VERY NICE..THE WAITERS DO NOT SPEAK VERY GOOD ENGLISH..HARD TO UNDERSTAND..BUT VERY NICE...SERVICE VERY SLOW, KIDS DO NOT EAT FREE UNLESS UNDER 5, ADULT PRICES ARE MISLEADING, DRUMS FOR BDAY PARTIES TOO LOUD, OFFERED 5 CHOICES IN MEAT AND TOO LONG IN BETWEEN SERVICE. ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT BUT WOULDN'T GIVE UP ON THE PLACE. Cons: EXPENSIVE, B-DAY PARTY DRUMS, SLOW SERVICE more

Service Stinks 5/7/2003

Slow Slow service. I had to get the guy to bring me food everytime and the meat was dry and nasty. more

Wait Staff 2/18/2003

Now I know why they call it the wait staff. You wait and wait and wait and wait and wait some more and wait and wait and wait some more. Then after the waiting period is over the lone server brought us some under cooked over spiced cold pork product. Save yor money. Pros: Trax Cons: Food, Service, Price more

The dryheaving night 2/10/2003

I must admitt that I was excited to eat at the samba grill. I soon found myself dryheaving about ten minutes into our meal. I found a thick white vein in one of my peices of meat. The saled bar was nearly empty and for the price I would have rather eaten at Mc Donalds. Pros: Located in Gateway Cons: The food quality, The pice, The salad bar more

Lack Luster 2/5/2003

Poor Service, lack of personal service, one food server for the evening meal time. lack of drink service. and the pork products seemed not to be cook thoughy. had an odd color and Favor to them. My feelings about this eatery is to stay away. Cons: service, pork prep. uncooked, salad plates were hot more

Best Steaks in Utah? 2/4/2003

The meat was very slow coming around. We would see a server with some meat, but he would never get to our table. The salad bar selections were very minimal. Our waiter came to our table once. We could not order a second drink. We left before we felt like we had received what we paid for, but were tired of waiting. I wouldn't go back. Pros: good location Cons: noisy, not romantic, slow service more

Absoulute Nightmare 1/29/2003

Last time, I went there was an absolute nightmare. They have this good tasting lemonade, we ordered it and we ended up being charged 3.75. This is not the biggest problem, however. The waiter failed to inform us that there is no free refills on that drink and kept pouring us more and more. Half of our meal's bill went to the drinks. Sadly, the service was too slow for a restaurant that size. Only two waiters and food comes very slow. Cons: Inconsiderate at Time more

Sundays must be bad. 1/21/2003

When compared to another Brazilian Grill in town, I must say that Samba Grill is nothing like it. The selection of 'all you can eat meat' was not to big, and it took forever for the servers to come around. Also the pinapple I was looking forward to was not in stock! The salad bar was very small and didn't have much of a selection. The price for Samba Grill was expensive when compared to the quality. There is a possibility that it was a bad experience because it was on a Sunday, but perhaps not. Cons: Slow Service, Salad Bar was small, Small Variety more

I was expecting better 1/12/2003

I was expecting a lot better than what I recieved. The service was slow, but served with a smile, the meat was over cooked, you could bairly understand the staff as they were trying to ask if you needed anything, and the selection at the salad bar was in great need of an over haul. all in all the food was poor Pros: friendly fun staff, fun atmosphere Cons: their enlish is poor, hard to have a conver more
