Salon Salon Mike Manchester

I randomly chose this Aveda salon using Google one morning. I called Salon Salon and Chantille was able to get me in a couple of hours later. I loved my haircut! She did an excellent job listening to exactly what I wanted and gave me appropriate suggestions. She is friendly and sweet and the salon itself is beautiful. I will go back. more

I recently used a Groupon for this salon for a partial highlight and haircut. The consultation seemed fine and I brought in some photos of what I was looking for. Sean, my stylist, was extremely chatty throughout the appointment mostly talking to the other person working there. When he was talking to me it was to tell me weird tidbits about random bands and people I didn't know, ex-boyfriends, and how often he works out. He seems like a nice enough fellow but it was just was a strange TMI experience. more

I recently bought a Groupon for Salon Salon in Coralville and was really excited. I am new to the area and have been looking for a great salon. The Groupon was $55 for $125 (cut, color & style). I have long hair so I figured that this Groupon should cover my whole cut and color, as I have never paid more than $125 for a cut and color in my life. Sean did tell me at the beginning of my appointment that there would be a small fee for having long hair. Ok, I figured maybe an extra $15-20 max. I told him I wanted some light caramels and reds and a trim. I have to say, Sean did an amazing job. I loved the results of my color, and the cut was awesome. But here is the bummer part of all of it. When I was finished, Mike, the owner, checked me out at the cashier and told me my remaining charge was $78 dollars. WHAT? That doesn't include my Groupon, right? WRONG. He proceeded to tell me that because I asked for 2 colors, I would be charged another $40 for the ""highlights."" Also, because he had to do a highlight, and I have long hair, that's an additional charge. Also, because my hair is so long, you know it takes longer to do and they have to use more product, so that's an additional charge. And it took so long to Blow dry, thats another charge. Charge after charge after charge, and none of it made sense to me. He couldn't even give me a written break down of the charges. Not to mention, during my blow drying, Sean's next client showed up, so he didn't even style my hair as the Groupon said he would. So technically I paid 135 dollars out of pocket ( which I have NEVER done for a cut/color and I have had long hair my whole life), and essentially paid $200 for the whole thing if you include what the Groupon should have covered. SO disappointing. I told Mike that I was really bummed about it because I am new to Iowa and looking for a new place to get my hair done. He could have had a regular customer, but because he decided to rip me off, I won't be able to go back there. He tried to tell me that it wouldn't be expensive the next time because I would need to go back in 6 WEEKS for a root touch up, plus my hair wouldn't be as long. Maybe true, but I don't have a spare $135 every 6 weeks. I just want people to know that they need to be careful and make sure they ask EXACTLY what they are getting before they sit down. And if you use a Groupon, just know that you are NOT getting any sort of deal. more

Sean has been my hairstylist for a little over a year. Since the first time he did my hair, I absolutely loved going to him. He also did my hair for Prom last year and it looked amazing. Sean even came along with me for my senior pictures to make sure my hair looked fantastic in every photo. He always knows what to do with my hair and what I will like. I can tell him to do what he wants and he makes it look wonderful...you can't do that with most hairstylists. Not only does he do a great job with my hair but he's fun to be around and makes me look forward to getting my hair done. I'm so glad I started going to Sean, he is a fantastic person and hairstylist! more

I started going to Sean about 1 year ago and he had the most knowledge about my hair and the hair products he was using. I love Aveda salons and have been to many and I haven't ever had a hairstylist who knew so much about hair. He keeps up on all the new products and gives many good ideas to change your hair around to fit your face and personality. Overall I love going to Sean to get my hair done and I guarantee you would be very satisfied if you let him do your hair even once. more

This review is long overdue, as my first visit at Salon Salon was one year ago with Sean. I choose this salon as they are an Aveda salon and I wanted a new stylist. Although I'm not one to review regularly, Sean's love for what he does deserves this. more

I found Sean Camillian through a friend's recommendation. Before I became his client, I had actually been cutting my own hair and was kind of nervous to put myself in someone else's hands, someone who didn't know me. But he listened and immediately picked up on my style and my boundaries, and even though I tell him every time to ""do whatever"" - and even though every time he does something different - every time I am pleased and surprised. He manages to take my look in different directions while still maintaining my ""me-ness"". He is able to pick up on what I'm comfortable with and meshes that with what he knows will really work on me. I have been impressed with his expertise not only in his cuts/colors but also with his products. I have been converted to Aveda products - they really are worth every penny (and my cats love the smell of the Air Control hairspray!). I have also been impressed with his commitment to education. He is always pushing himself to learn everything he can about everything he does. And it shows. I get many compliments on both my cut and color. Even if it's been awhile since I've been able to make an appointment, I still get compliments, because my hair looks good and fresh even after it's grown out a bit. I have been with Sean for about three years, and I know my self-confidence has grown since I've put myself in his hands! more

I lived in Iowa City for 4 years and for a while I could not find a match for a great stylist. Until I found Sean Camillian at Salon Salon in Coralville. Sean is a professional colorist. He is constantly updating his knowledge with professional Aveda coloring courses. I could see the results with his work. My color looked natural and he covered my grays very well. I would also like to add that Sean cuts hair very well. The ambiance in the salon is very cool. I always got complements about my hair and I recommended Sean always. Sadly, I had to move. I was with Sean for three years and I really miss his professional work. more
