Value and Quality Food and Service, never mind the best bartender in New England,Stacy, read the review it explains all I promise it is true as well 1/24/2009

The staff is warm and welcoming especially Stacy, the bartender who works there all the time it seems. She is the best bartender and ALL of my Male friends find her extremely attractive and the Women love her because she always makes sure everyone gets served instead of catering just to the guys like many women bartenders do in many establishments.Stacy is a very down to earth person and is a joy to see her when we dine and have a few drinks.I have never met a better bartender who cares about her patrons and still makes sure they play by the rules of the establishment. This place is lucky to have someone like her so we will definitely return and let our friends know.I also want to say that the food is EXCELLENT as well as being very reasonably priced....oh and the drinks are also reasonably priced as well. Good food,Good Value, and outstanding service...what more could you ask for. The ""non commercialized' places are usually the best. Pros: Great service,Amazing Food,Great value on food and drinks, friendly service. Cons: No Pool Table or Dart board more

The Best!! 12/23/2008

We just love love love love this place! It is so homey and relaxed, and the food is amazing. You cannot beat their prices and the portions border on rediculous. On a busy night be prepared to wait for a table- but it is always worth it. Salemwood is the 1st place we think of for a night out. Try it for an intimate cozy dinner and you wont be disappointed!! Pros: price, portions Cons: ambience, location more

Great food, great bargain! 11/15/2008

Went on the basis of other reviews with the 10% off coupon we printed out. Great food and our kid found crayons and loved the ravioli and the haddock, too! The portions are huge, the price for the 3 of us, with drinks, was only $20.00! what a bargain! The service was friendly, folks at the next table stopped by to chat - great down-home dining experience and great food. Couldn't be happier! more

Best Food Anywhere! 3/19/2008

The food is outstanding here. Although there is a bit of a wait all the food is cooked to order and so good. The prices are reasonable and the staff has improved. more

Great cheap eat 1/12/2008

This down-home place had tasty food with huge portions. We had the mixed grill with steak tips, chicken tenders and a home-made sausage with the homemade fusilli on the side, plus the seafood trio. It was all delicious and piping hot. We waited awhile, but it wasn't frustrating. Highly recommend this place as a ""cheap"" eat. more

Delicious Baked Stuffed Haddock 11/12/2007

This was my first trip to this restaurant and I can't wait to go back. There was so much food, starting with the amazing rolls. My meal came with a good sized salad and a giant sweet potato. The steak tips were cooked the way I asked, medium rare, and were yummy. But the best was the baked stuffed haddock. The stuffing was just so buttery. I couldn't stop eating it. The waitress was very attentive and even asked if we had a coupon, which I did and might have forgotten about. I'm looking forward to going back to try other dishes. more

Great food, lousy service 9/13/2007

I live near by and requent this place often. I generally love it but the service has gone down hill. The dining room is terribly under staffed. Generally, I don't mind, because the food is worth the wait. Last night I came in the door at 7:45 and the waitress said the chef was done for the evening. What restuarant closes their kitchen at 7:45? Pros: great food Cons: service more

Everything is AMAZING!! Try it NOW! 8/31/2007

Salem Woods relies on family for its service, so you need to be in the right mindset to visit there. If you're looking for a white-glove, black-truffle-laden experience, grab your wallet and head down to Exchange Street to waste your hard earned money on haute microcuisine. But if you work hard and want to eat hard, Salem Woods is your place. We live right next door and go often, and our service is never a problem as long as we go there looking to have good home-cooked meals served by people who could be our mothers or sisters. This is a homestyle restaurant, which is a dying art when swamped with buffalo chicken and drive thru's, and we try to support them as much as possible. Pros: Everything is delicious. I swear. Cons: Parking, long waits at rush times, at times ambivalent service. more

Awesome! Especially the bartender!!!!! 5/4/2007

Went on a nice evening, was a bit crowded but we sat at the bar where a ""Hottie"" bartender named Debbie served us quickly and with a pretty smile....the bartender was the capper on a great dinner. We wanted to ask her if she'd be our waitress too, but I guess that would be a little much to ask. Honestly the most beautiful ""40-something"" we've ever had the pleasure to meet. Food is plentiful and good, excellent Chicken Parm, seafood fantastic....and the price is right. Definitely worth the trip, especially when Debbie is on duty!!!!! more

extremely poor, rude, sarcastice, uncaring service 3/20/2007

Service was horrendous!!!! She could not have been much ruder or snapped with any more sarcasm. Waitress would not take our order until she had taken another order 1st (all food cooked to order is great) 1/2 hour wait to put in your order when there are only 5 tables in the place is ridiculous since 1/2 the tables were already eating!!!!!! Everything was a project. food was ok for the price....there was alot, but the quality was very average! Too many other much better restaurants with waitstaff that at least acts like they give a !$@#) Pros: lots of average food Cons: service just about the worst, including even macdonalds service!!!!!! more

Great Food, Service has improved! 3/11/2007

My wife and I have visited Salem Wood several times since my last reveiw and I am very happy to report that they have gotten their act together and the service is markedly improved. The food is still fantastic and well worth the trip. We live in Woburn and manage to get there at least every other month. Try it you will not be sorry. Don't forget to print the coupon that is on this listing. I always forget, but it is still a value and good dining experience without the discount coupon. Pros: Excellent food and value Cons: Can't think of one more

Entrees are delicious and dessert is home-made 3/9/2007

I found this place on City Search one weekday night when my guy and I were looking for some good food at a low-key place for reasonable prices. I am SO glad i found it! The appetizers were typical american bar food (wings, mozzarella sticks, etc.) but the entrees are so yummy! This is a family-owned place and everything is cooked to order - which i love! My guy had the surf & turf - perfectly marinated grilled tips were delicious (and reheated well the next day). And I had the lobster ravioli - no skimping on lobster, cream sauce was phenomenal, and plenty of medium sized shrimp on top! Portions are good sized - enough to take home for lunch the next day. Drinks were good and strong too. The waitstaff is very friendly and efficient. We can't wait to go back! This is a great little local place... My only regret is that our printer wasn't working so I couldn't print the 25% off coupon! They do need that to give you the discount - but it's not like the bill was outrageous anyway.... Pros: Food is top-notch, very casual Cons: dining room is only 6 booths and 4 tables so could be an issue on a weekend night, MUST bring printed coupn for discount more

I love This Place!!!!! 2/12/2007

Oh My Goodness.........The steak tips are the best! They always cook them so perfect. I have had lots of other meals too everything I've tried is awesome. The wait staff is so friendly, very attentive too. I am a regular so I go there alot by myself and feel so comfortable. I would totally recommend Salem Wodd Cafe. Pros: Great Staff, excellent food more

Top Family Owned Restaurant in Malden with friendly service and generous portions at affordable prices! 2/10/2007

My wife and I moved to Malden in Sept 2006, and we dine at the Salem Wood Cafe once a month. We will dine there more once I get into another professional position. Wow, the Salem Wood Cafe has a very down-to-earth and friendly waitstaff. I went there for my birthday in December and had an outstanding time. I could have gone anywhere including Legal Seafoods in Burlington, but I am happy I went to the Salem Wood Cafe. I love their surf 'n turf. Plenty of steak tips and I had the haddock with it. Plus, a huge side order of linguini came with it. The salad was good too. We were able to take the linguini home with us. We are so full that we never get to order dessert. My wife and I don't drink so we only wait in the bar section until a table is ready. We try to go there during mid-week. We have invited different friends on different occasions to join us. One of them was a vegetarian, and he was able to find something he loved on the menu and it wasn't a ""veggie burger"" either. The 25% off coupon is outstanding, and we don't bring it all the time. The restaurant isn't a ""tuxedo and gown"" dining place. Instead, the place is superb for great selections of food with big quantities at a very affordable price. Can't beat that and that's why it is easily my favorite restaurant in the area. I really have had a great time at the Salem Wood Cafe each time I was there. I have taken my sister to join us, and she loved it too. If you are in Malden, MA, I'd recommend the place over the other restaurants. I have eaten there on Saturday nights and there was about a twenty minute wait, but it went fast. The dress is casual, but some people dress up too. I have always found a space in the parking lot even on Saturday early evenings. There are many good food choices on the menu, and I wish I could try a different one each time. However, I love the surf 'n turf the best. This family owned restaurant is the best, and I have eaten at many places in the Boston area. Jay. Malden, MA. Pros: Food selection, Portions, Prices, Coupon, Locality, Friendly Service, and Parking. Cons: Keno games could be removed unless they make money for the restaurant. more

Best secret in town 1/22/2007

I have lived in Malden my whole life so I was shocked to discover that this place had changed ownership and is as good as it is! We stopped in on Saturday night not sure of what the wait would be, we waited approximately 20-30 mins. While waiting we had a drink and took in the local hubbub. We started out with a nice salad and delicious salad dressing. I had the baked stuffed haddock which was out of this world and my boyfriend had the chicken parmigiana. His ""platter"" came out and we gasped at the size! He loved it! We were too full to take in one of the desserts. This is our new favorite place, and they WANT you to use the coupon! more

A superior VALUE restaurant 1/22/2007

We went there because of a newspaper coupon offering a 25% discount (that they honored.) Pros: Parking lot and street parking available more

Good quality food - but nothing special 1/20/2007

My boyfriend and I stopped in here on a Saturday afternoon for a late lunch. The place was deserted, although a couple people did come in after we had been there for awhile. The waitress was nice, definitely ""old school,"" but relatively friendly. I had the ""Triple-X Ceasar Salad,"" and I have no idea what the triple-X stands for. It was fine, not particularly huge, and literally covered in croutons. My BF had the steak tips; these were excellent - cooked perfectly, tender and tasty, with yummy fries. All this and a coke for $20 including a generous tip. Great value I think. Pros: Nice prices for good quality food Cons: Boring atmosphere, somehwat plain menu more

awesome food 11/4/2006

The food here is unbelieveable...my wife and I loved the ambience, as well as the amazing service. Overall...amazing more

Pleasantly Surprised!!! 10/22/2006

Another Friday night wondering where to grab a bite to eat, as I was checking my Email I saw Pros: Economical a real steal more
