Saladang 10/15/2004

I have lived in this area all my life and I would never reccomend a restaurant unless I knew it was always good. The restaurant was very large like an airplane hangar. Noisy, the food was average at best. The main dish we ordered ""the waitress reccomended it"" was a mess of everything and not hot. I could not believe my eyes when I saw the bill, over $70.00. I definitely would not go there again. more

Excelent Food & Service! 8/15/2004

Been lunching and dining here for over 10 plus years. We also brought and recommended this restaurant to at least a dozen people which all came back again and again! Discovered the place when it was newly opened with a girl that knew the waitress here. After that, everything was history! It's still the only place that's extremely prompt and professional, and food is beyond delicious! Their success is simple and basic fact is: good food and professional service! Pros: Professional, good food Cons: , parking more

Great date hangout. 8/14/2004

If you're on a date, this is one perfect place to go and very close to Old Town Pasadena! I bought my girlfriend here 4 years ago (yes, still with her) and it was a blast, the food was pretty good and the place was upbeat and lively at the time. But somehow, we still prefer the original Saladang next door! The menu from Song is more of a decore than taste. But do highly recommend the ambience!!! Pros: Great Set-up Cons: , Price more

10? 6/22/2004

Drove from The Fairfax area for the best Thai restaurant on the planet. They received a 10 from citysearch, this place is going to be incredible. STOP! It wasn't. Not a terrible experience but the entire evening was average. Nothing bad to say, nothing good to say. Pasadena is starbing for restaurants that speak to the true foodies out there. Thai food in Pasadena is just plain bad, I can see why Saladang does so well. A 10, come on! Can Citysearch be bought? Pros: It wasn't awful more

Great for a date... 1/12/2004

Probably one of the nicest thai places i've eaten at next to Natalee Thai in LA. Food isn't really authentic, yet people still go for the ambiance. There are 2 saladang rest's next to each other, this one being the nicer one. They hired architects and what a result it has brought. The main seating area is outside in the patio and they do provide heat lamps. I usually come here for special occasions and have had a few dates here. It's very intimate and the whole idea of eating exotic thai food adds to the experience. I definitely recommend this place and will be back for more. Prices are reasonable yet parking can be a hassle. I think 2 people can eat for $20-25. Enjoy. Pros: Beautiful restaurant, Ambiance, Inexpensive more

Excellent Thai 11/15/2003

One may not think to find such a great restaurant on this stretch of Fair Oaks lined with antique stores and warehouses. . . but one does! Housed in a former warehouse, Saladang is spare, even minimalistic in ambience and decor. But what it may lack in fancy ornamentation, it makes up in fresh and authentic Thai flavors. The menu includes the standard Thai fare such as pad thai and tom yum, but also has a quite a few other unique dishes. The boneless stuffed chicken wings are a must have for an appetizer. Service is generally fast and friendly. And prices are very reasonable. The only downside to this place is it's popularity-- expect to wait for a table, especially on weekends. Pros: Food, Service, Value Cons: Waiting for tables more

Actually two restaurants. The first is for noisy, open style, lower cost dining. The second, Saladang Song is a beautiful, modern style building, ideal for romantic night time dining. As Thai restaurants go, this is very much in a class by itself. If Thai is your thing, this is very much worth a side trip from Old Town Pasadena Pros: exquisite dining, beautiful presentatio, excellent food Cons: off the beaten track more

americanize 9/8/2003

This Americanize Thai Cusine is not bad. If you want authentic thai food, this is not a place for you. But the atmosphere of the place is great. Food is pretty good, more on the sweet side. Pros: great atmosphere, good decoration, good location Cons: not authentic, americanize, a bit pricy more

You can never go wrong... 5/3/2003

at Saladang. I've been coming here for years, and everyone whom I have brought has loved it. There's always a dish for everyone! I love the calamari appetizers, green curry, curry fried rice (try it with brown rice), whole fried catfish and of course, the sizzling beef. YUM! Tip: Go with a group of 5+ (that way you can make reservations). Pros: portions are good, food is good, great value! Cons: the wait, service is hit/miss more

Customers watch out 4/26/2003

We have had two bad experiences at this restaurant. The first was, we were with a group of six guests and all ordered different dishes. When the waitress brought the meals to the table, she served one of the couples two fo the same dish. They told her that they only ordered one of that dish and another one. The waitress refused to exchange the dish or not charge them for the error. The second time, something similar happened. They served something we did not order, charged us for it and insisited that we ordered it. This time the waitress very reluctantly took the item off the check. I will not return there, something is very wrong with the waitstaff. Pros: nice decor, good food Cons: language barrier, poor customer service more

Sala-Dang It's Good! 4/22/2003

I go there at least once per week. Enough said? If you want something fun, order the sizzling beef. Good times... Pros: Food, Food, Food Cons: Crowded at times, Can get loud, Faster service please more

hmmmm...thaiiii 3/13/2003

The food here is great. No where else can you get so much good food for such a great price. You gotta try the pad thai and the curry dishes. I have yet to try a dish here that I didnt like. more

Non authentic Thai Food 2/4/2003

Saladang Song is one of the worst tasting Thai restaurants that I have ever been to. Being Thai myself, I could say firsthand that Saladang Song is not authentic Thai food. The atmosphere of the restaurant is wonderful and so is the service, but if you are looking for a good place to eat real Thai food steer clear of Saladang Song. Pros: Inexpensive, Good Parking, Crowded Cons: Not good food more

OVERRATED BY UNINFORMED DINERS! 1/10/2003

As a Thai National, it kills me when people say to me - ""Saladang is sooooo good!""...it almost can be taken as an insult. The food is mediocre at best, the dishes often served cold, the ambience is just one big room with a zillion tables, and the service unknowledgeable. For a true Thai experience, take it from a Thai person who's been eating Thai food for over 20 years, spend your money at Palms in Hollywood or Talesai on Sunset or Olympic. Then come back to me & tell me what you think of overrated & mediocre Saladang. Cons: OVERRATED, MEDIOCRE, OVERRATED!!! more

apple salad 12/19/2002

Superior seasoning excellant ingredients great smiles, owners watchful eye to detail. more

supercalifragilisticespialidocious! 12/13/2002

I go here all the time and the food has never disappointed. Those golden pouches rule, I love their noodle dishes and that deep fried spicy fish is heaven. Lots of people are scared of Thai food because they think everything is spicy, but just ask for mild. And if you do ask for spicy, watch out! The interior of the restaurant is great too, it has that urban industrial feel that you don't find too often in Pasadena. Pros: food, ambience, service Cons: in Pasadena, not LA, it wasn't rated #1 more

SIMPLY THE BEST!!! 11/24/2002

This place has the best Thai in the U.S., honestly. Pros: inexpensive, awesome food, great atmosphere more

The Best Pad Thai 9/16/2002

Saladang is one of my favorite Thai restaurants. The noodles dishes are so good esp the Pad Thai! It's very decently price and I love the atmosphere =) Pros: Great Food, Great Prices, Great Atmosphere Cons: Parking more

Best Thai food around! 8/25/2002

Saladang offers up some of the best Thai food in the southland. The satay is great! The food is very consistant. This place gets very busy so make reservations or come early! Pros: Parking lot, great food, value Cons: Crowded more

The best appetizer 8/22/2002

6 months later, I'm still dreaming about their chicken appetizer with granny smith apples and peanut sauce... AMAZING! more
